  1. Ohhhh there are TONS of stories out there.....not sure the statue of limitations has expired on most of them.... One of my favorites was a winter day...working with one of my favorite partners (now a career FF) and we were sitting "Post 25" (SBP south of WMC) a perfect parking lot with a 3 inch coat of fresh snow... I am the driver of course - I was one of theose who LIKED being an "ambulance driver".... I decide to practice "inclement weather drinving, stopping, and turning techniques" and bust out a perfect donut...not happy with that - I wanted to leave a perfect figure 8 in the snow...started through it..all good...turned to go the other way and it bogged down, getting stuck...Now we could call for help, but the snow was all tore up and it was obvious what happened.... We tried to get it unstuck....rocked it, he pushed it...I pushed it...we BOTH pushed it (open rear doors, put in drive, feather gas, get tires spinning, get out run to the back and push - if it got traction one of us would simply hop in the back and into the driver seat...RIGGGHHHT!). We shoved crap under the rear tires...backboards, short boards...you name it...I spit a short board 60 feet across the lot! Finally they call us to come back to the city.....no way...we are stuck! We call for help...the send Bobby Martinez - God rest his soul - but by some stroke of luck - I tried one last time to get loose and it pulled out with ease....THANK GOODNESS! No harm, no foul....no problem!
  2. I still loved the old skool Ram Chargers! Never forget the first time I drove one - made the turn up the hill from Nep onto Ashburton and the rear hatch opooed open on me...littered gear all up Ashburton!
  3. As will you and your peers. Strong work and may God Bless.
  4. Wow.....................but not surprised.
  5. Unfrigging Real...... Thos poor, poor babies and innocent guys........
  6. Who the hell designs these firehouses? Looks like half of the roof is squished.... What happened to brick?
  7. I agree - the firemen themselves have always been my favorite component of a fire picture. The biggest advantage I see in that series linked is the ACCESS! The photog had amazing access! Right there in the hallways with the members - gives an insight to the job that not alot of people see..... How many of you Officers would let a photog in a burning building today?
  8. When firemen were firemen!
  9. Guys - it might not have been a good idea for a post - but I can vouch that the OP is a great guy - and a professional at what he does. Bash the topic - but not the poster....
  10. Agreed! Listen to the two way radio, for other responding vehicles, and your Officer's orders.........leave the jammin' out for the ride home in your car.
  11. I too have used it alot in the past - the one that sticks out the most is a HVAC worker who got 100 percent steam burns at a local school....this was right before Saint's was designated a trauma center. They WERE very popular back in the 90's in my old department, but were all removed after it was determined that burn centers preferred to have patients, as mentioned above, free of contaminants/gels/etc.. I was pleased to see one on NR's Engine 25. I personally think when used right, they beneifts outweight the negatives.
  12. It is a GREAT place to work...I sometimes get the urge to go back...even more so seeing some of these pics..(MINUS the ESU'ish uniforms of course! LOL!) 305 - when can I do a ride along...Robin pulled my 129 uniform pullover out of the attic yesterday....pants might not fit anymore, but the shirt does!
  13. Sort of like the Rural Metro mess?
  14. COME ON Jr! Please tell me that went over YOUR head? I expected some comments, but not from you....LOL! For the record - I am kinda partial to them yellow birds....
  15. He doesn't............and honestly.............who can blame him!?
  16. Tommy quoted Hannah Montana..............END THREAD! LOL! Seriously though - Goose's vision is not too far fetched - sure, a fully career FD based EMS system would be tits...then we would all get to be career guys...the amount of jobs opening up would be significant at first...but... What about the $$$$$ that goes to Rescue Squads and VACS? How can departments justify buying a new ambulance every 5 years when the one they have has low miles from not being able to get out? Keep that old ambulance if you must, and put that $$$$ into funding a career staff to actually get that unit off the floor! As a taxpayer, I would GLADLY pay more in taxes to fund a career staff; for all 3, Police Fire, and PARAMEDICS....however, I am BLESSED to have a fire department who responds rapidly, consistantly. In case of a fire at my home, I can count on my Brothers to get there fast. Now as the husband of a diabetic, I KNOW how important it is to have a paramedic at my door quick, and having called them a few times in the past few years, I would put the emphasis on getting a career EMS (read PARAMEDICS!) before a career FD. Yes - in a perfect world, we would all be career Firefighter/Paramedics.....in every firehouse in the tri-county area.....that would be great....maybe my son will have that chance...
  17. What day you looking at? Unfortunatley I am on days all next week then off for a few weeks on vacation...but we might be able to get you hooked up in Dover.
  18. I never could undertsand why the crapiest city's where "no one " works or pays taxes, live in goverment subsidized housing, and collects from the hard working people of this country seem to get the "best" in protection? Career fireman, cops, and paramedics....... While nearby, people who work 2 jobs to afford a small run down house on a speck of land are "protected" by departments who may or may not get out, BLS ambulances, and State or County police who are stetched too thin ?
  19. Nice grab! "Holy Smoke!" LOL
  20. EXACTLY! These "top earners" don't just have a cushy job where wheelbarrows of money roll in - THEY ARE LIKE ME - WORKING THEIR ASSES OFF! I work like a dog to make what I make so my family can live comfortably....I, and in turn, my family, sacrifice alot so I can be here at work...but you do what you have to do....
