  1. I hope the City does not take the Local's "kindness" (solidarity and Brotherhood) for weakness. ......
  2. Ok,...maybe a bit too harsh on the first post...my bad....how about "misleading"? Is that better? Regardless, as Tommy posted above, I wish the best to Beacon.. Now who stole my rep point! LOL!
  3. Why would the name continue to have "Volunteer" in it? It is deceptive and an insult to actual volunteer agencies......
  4. And thats WITHOUT auto lockouts and Gamewell Street Box Alarms!
  5. RIP sweet Ariel. Thank you for watching over my children the last few summers. That is a debt that can never be repaid.
  6. .firehouse traditions..... I like leather helmets... I like Gamewell Systems... I like rubber pull up boots.... I like doing what it takes to get the job done, even if it isnt "by the book".... I like old brick firehouses... I like orange Fireball gloves.... I like booster hoses....even more if they are on reels..... I like veritcal ventilation, but not as an afterthought... I like "progression", but not at the expense of tradtion. Too many traditions are lost in this day and age..
  7. Discuss your department's chimney fire tactics...residential dwellings. Do you use "chains" to knock the crap off the walls? Plastic baggies with dry chem? Chimfex? Stretch a line or not?
  8. Congrats!
  9. In reagrds to the "Dry Chem Bombs"; Use those bags that come on a roll in the produce section of the grocery store - they are much thinner that sammich bags and melt faster, allowing the powder to work more rapidly.
  10. And is there enough emphasis placed on it in classes and training?
  11. Are you referring to an actual RESCUE, ie; person in shaft, "man in machine", etc, or simply a Stuck Occupied Elevator? Either way, I am all ears, as like you, we have very few elevators out by me.
  12. THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HAZARD LIGHTS AND EMERGENCY LIGHTS! We all have headlights that can alternate between high and low - but we can't run wig-wags!
  13. One more; In regards to construction, particularly of private residences, what is the biggest threat to firefighters and how do we recognize it?
  14. I think the PPV technique for chimney fires is pretty dang neat. PPV has been used in our area with good results, but luckily always later into the fire. This video from www.vententersearch.com is an EYE OPENER and drives home the need for correct timing, as with any ventilation. http://www.vententersearch.com/index.php?s=ppv and let me add if it's OK; is PPV considered an effective alternate to vertical or horizontal ventilation?
  15. Indeed....quite interested as well.
  16. Did I miss th e2009 Top 10 Posting?
  17. That was my next question - hpw many departments treat chimney fires as an actual house fire? Take aproactive approach in case of extension, as opposed to reactive? Or are we too "non-chalant" about them?
