  1. RIP Cap'.... Thoughts and Prayers for you Bill, and your members of Roosevelt, as well as the Fairview and Hyde Park members there that night...be strong
  2. Oh it's no concept...it's a very real thing...a storied part of that thing so many are working to destroy...yep...tradition! I agree with you wholeheartedly on the vollie side........Some Chiefs really need to trust their senior guys more...trust their judgements and their actions...don't microf'ingmanage everything!!!!!! I also know that the term "senior man" refers to two totally different things when comparing volunteer to career....same "concept"....but very, very different.
  3. Do you guys on the career jobs find the respect for the Senior Man diminishes with the addition of younger generations of members?
  4. Many departments have a fast food joint in their response area, but how many are REALLY familiar with the building? I don't mean how often do you eat there - I mean how well do you KNOW the building? Construction? How will it react in a case of a working fire in it? What chemicals and hazard are in it? I have often heard these building referred to as "disposable structures"; poorly built, fast fire spread, heavy load on the roof, etc. I have never fought a fire in one, but have several in my first due; McDonald's...Subway...etc. Looking for your tips, tactics, experience, and knowledge.....
  5. SERIOUSLY...THATS it? Thats not even enough to be a "good" Lieutenant!
  6. As mentioned, this is fire from back in the late 90's/early 00's... However - if memory serves correct - the PFD resisted the changeover to bunker pants till the very end, and were the last department locally to surrender.... Viva la 3/4 Boots!
  7. AWESOME PICS! Having driven by this deli a million times and seeing the black char on the bricks for YEARS, I often wondered what this job was like! Thanks!
  8. Res1cuE doin' WORK!
  9. I was thinking of this the other day..I saw a car up in Dutchess with the bumber sticker..."Thank a Police Officer"....................... I was working the Empress radio room that day.....
  10. 10-4 K On a side note - and forgive me if this is off the topic, but when YFD DOES call back members, who makes the calls; Union guys or Dispatchers? (no bashing or anything like than, don't worry, just genuine curiousity...)
  11. Hope Billy F was working...thats a HELLUVA birthday Present!
  12. The City of Poughkeepsie 911 Center provides EMD in the City.
  13. Sorry....in the "younger generations" the use of "word" is a term of agreement.
  14. Was referring to his info...wayyyyyyyyyyy out there! LOL!
  15. Word...where did THAT come from? What does that say!? Booyah - great post. LOL x INFINITY! PVFD is no stranger to a "big city"...they come to Poughkeepsie enough...many of their members are on various urban jobs as well..PVFD will go anywhere, at anytime..and work their asses off. I was "in" more fires when I was 16 and 17 than in my twenties! Back them we were having a good bit of fires and not so much for manpower...literally "trial by fire"...VIVA EL RANCHO!" THAT was a good fire! This thread is confusing - it starts out about Hughsonville going across the river for FAST...then gets into the Valley going to Beacon (which was ALREADY explained in another thread - and it is not uncommon for a department to travel a long distance in times of major emergencies).... Would this even be an issue if it was ANY other department other than HFD? I can tell you without a doubt - if I was in a position where I needed to establish an incoming FAST Team - I would certainly lean towards a well equipped, well manned, aggressive department such as HFD over one that is...well...the opposite. Hughsonville - Dutchess County's Kentland! LOL!
  16. Any word on the condition of the Trooper?
  17. You answered your own question grasshoppa.....no need to strip one area that has already been inundated with emergency calls, when they can pull a tanker from across county and not disrupt the balance of equipment there.
  18. City of Beacon and DC911 were the stars of the night for sure...never laughed so hard at some of the exchanges over the air... Fine job by both agencies to boot.
  19. LOL...I bet you do! Man did we bend alot of rules on that call! LOL!
  20. Sometime you just have to make do with what ya got....bottom line is getting the patient the ER.. I have transported a cardiac arrest in the back of a lower Westchester fire department's heavy rescue after my own ambulance's brakes "caught fire" due to mechanical malfunction......
