Sigh....he has no reflectigve safety vest on...his chin strap appears to be on his rear brim, and he has no gloves on....when will we learn? I hope this photo desn't make it onto Firefighter Close Calls. L......O.....L

not so much the weather, as photoperiodism...but heck yeah - critter's minds wander to some booty calls...get ready for a rise in car-deer accidents.

Pre-Pussification Pics are priceless.

True...but imagine the size of them backstraps with some cold Blue Mountains!
-
Out of curiousity - why were the police BOLO'ing for it...same thing for bears...why tie up emergency resources for animals that were here long before us?? Yes - it is different to see a moose or bear - they are NOT common here (bears ARE common in Dutchess BTW...they have established a very healthy population) Just let them be...and enjoy their presence..

Call another department/team????? Like they are behind every tree! LOL Remember in some areas, like mine, there are NO FASTeams to call...at least none that would not have to travel a good distance to the scene....the closest is 2 towns away - but travel distance is at least 20 minutes, more depending on where in ourr district the fire may be...I am not aware of any Putnam teams that may be closer to our station 2 area... I presented the idea of having a "Batallion FASTeam" with members of different departments in a specific area/batallion who are trained in FAST, respond seperatly, with no apparatus to the scene, and gather what tools they may need form the departments on scene...NO, not a perfect system, but with no teams in place already, can beggars be choosers? I was told that no department would want to buy and store the tools and gear needed, and even then, there would be no guarantee they would even be on scene..which is very true and a valid point. My point was - get the manpower there...get the basic tools needed...at least you have guys on scene that can make a trained attempt at FF rescue..

RIP Stan................you were a character!

Is this true!?

It's a double edged sword....yes, it is nice to have that gear...BUT..it can also promote freelancing.
-
I somewhat agree....but what tools does an IC "NEED" other than his brain, PPE, and a handie -talkie for most daily emergencies? Think about it - emphasis on need.. The safety cage/barrier is a must. I have one in my Suburban to protect my children from getting hit by whatever junk I seem to be carrying at the time..(not a department rig, my very own....LOL).
-
I do not like the rear-SUV command posts - they RARELY get used from my experiences. I prefer to set up on a corner of the fire building, or scene where I can get a good look at at least two sides at all times.

OUTSTANDING series!
-
ABSOLUTELY! I have the "luxury" of running the gauntlet between Poughkeepsie and Millbrook each night after my tour...and you can totally notice the blue flashing from a good distance..VERY attention grabbing. And I would like to take this opportunity to thank those kind Troopers I talk to about every week on said travel route...LOL
-
I think it will have an effect no one realizes...as people get accustomed to seeing police cars and fire trucks with blue lights, they may become more apt to yeild to firefighters running a blue light.....just food for thought...
-
Hope the fireman treated for exhaustion is recovering well.

EXACTLY! Exfreakingzactly!

Is this deja vu without those beers @ Wabeeka?
