What fairytale world do you live in that you can "you can use your own guys" for a FAS Team?! What is your manpower situation around the clock? What is your "INTERIOR" manpower situation around the clock? You must have guys crawling all over the place! What do you sacrifice to have "your own guys" stand by as FAST? Do you not search? Do you not ventilate aggressively? Surely something doesnt get done... And yes - other than throwing every ground ladder they can to the windows, (at appropriate angles please!) and doing a 360...they better damn well be standing by...NOT doing the other tasks that may be sacrificed by using "your own guys"....and the lazy firemen that walk up to the scene empty handed better not even think about asking for or taking any other the FAST teams tools...period. Bring your own toys. Bottom line, unless you are a larger department, ie; FDNY, Yonkers, etc, and can dedicate a full 4 - 5 guys as FAST, WITHOUT diminishing your firefighting capabilities..then you better have one on first alarm, or at the bare minimum, transmittal of a working fire or other incident. NO EXCUSES. As a Lieutenant, YOU should have this mindset, your Captain should have this mindset, your Chiefs and your whole department should have this mindset. You, and you guys deserve nothing less. Stay safe.

Getting reports a Firefighter was killed at this job? http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/02/20/us-fire-newyork-idUSTRE71J1VP20110220

There will be a candle light vigil for Officer Falcone tonight. Any interested persons, MOS or not, should meet at Poughkeepsie City Hall or the italian Center (opposite the police apron), the procession will go from there at 1845 to Main St and railroad Avenue for the vigil, at 1900. Uniforms are not required. EDIT; DUE TO A REMARKABLE EXPECTED ATTENDANCE, ALL PARTIES ATTENDING ARE REQUESTED TO REPORT DIRECTLY TO THE AREA OF THE TRAIN STATION AND NOT THE ITAILAN CENTER OR CITY HALL. Parking will be available at City Hall parking deck (entrnaxce on Mill St opposite the Grand Hotel) or any other city lot.

Wish I never had to Chris......thanks for giving us PO Notaro for the day...we miss him up here.

Thank you. In addition to being a "Cop's Cop", John also loved the big red trucks...he loved to chase the PFD and was a great Crime Scene Technician who documented many a Poughkeepsie fire. I hope to see alot of firemen standing shoulder to shoulder with the police.

RIP Johhny 22.....we miss you man...

NO I am sure he meant CO monitoring of the members...every one wants to get there paws on a peice of the job... While I can see the merits of rehab...we HAVE to draw a line... No wonder firefighter savoid it at all costs....onceyou get there, you are stripped of you pack, coat, etc...people use equipment they usually dont know how to use, and then you are STUCK there because "they say so"...even though they read your blood pressure wrong! There is a reason they call it EMS Prison. Save the money for water and Gatorade...hand me one while I change my bottle, then get out of the way and let the firemen DO THEIR JOBS.

Dis the rest of his Brothers walk out as well?

Chevrons....to keep NFPA happy...if that is at all possible.
-
IA's are not bothersome at all, in fact - the reason for EMTB...I prefer they STAY in the Recent Topics cache.. I think the Apparatus Orders were what really bunged things up, but that is all set now too...
-
EXCELLENT LOO'!

Reachable with an aerial?

Did that factor in a career force that provided EMS? I am ALL for paying more per year for career fire protection, but have a VERY HARD time when a "career solution" is fire trucks staffed by 2 guys....and I mean no offense to those who are employed by municipalities that operate at bare bones staffing. Merely getting the rigs off the floor immediately is only half of the battle...and in my eyes, "career drivers" are just smoke and mirrors.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed....

I have ALWYS said that making a PAST Chief a "Deputy" is BAD BUSINESS!
-
Nonsense It's about respect. To become a Chief, IN MOST CASES, one must pay their dues, earn the respect of their peers, and work their way up the ladder. Years....training...tests...other's confidence...ALOT has to happen to get the white hat. I don't care - vollie or career...once a Chief, always a Chief. You can add bugles to your collar, but you can never take them away.

Pics of said large collection?

I have hated that number since Day 1...it is very misleading... I feel for the people who tattoo'ed that number on their bodies.

The final miner has just begun his journey to the top. Amazing effort on the part of the rescuers and all involved.
-
FYI - a medic has made it to the trapped miners and is facilitating the removal of the first miner. It is all over TV and pretty damn amazing to watch.
