PLEASE POST, SHARE, EMAIL, AND GENERALLY GET THE WORD OUT PLEASE. Officer Clarke is one of those guys you can ALWAYS, ALWAYS count on. The consumate "Cop's Cop", who was a dedicated patrol officer in the City of Poughkeepsie. Patter is an absolute bull of a man, but his sickness has left him with no choice but to retire early.....NOT the way Pat wanted to go out, and not the way we wanted him too.. TRULY loved by all, we miss seeing him, and want to do everything we can to help him. And for the fire guys - Pat's brother is a retired Boss from the FDNY, serving as Lieutenant of a Ladder Company in Brooklyn. Pat's whole family has roots deep in emergency services. Thanks!

I agree - my department was debating the very same topic at the recent meeting...we pay a band..and don't get much over a dozen guys in the street. I come from a very proud department with roots deep in the competitive side of the parades, and it is sad to see A. The lack of interest and attendance from members, and B. firemen parades getting phased out due to lack of attendance. I know...I know...parades are useless, a waste of money and resources, potentially put taxpaying residents at risk, and that other doom, gloom, and happy crap...I REALLY do get it and somewhat agree..as I have stated in the past - I am against long distance parades, like Lake George...but I am 100 percent for, and take off of work to march in local, or mutual aid parades. My department still has a fireman's parade and carnival, and it is a BIG deal...MANDATORY work nights...and not just be there - you WORK. Everyone pitches in regardless of rank, seniority, and class...the community appreciates it, the attending departments appreciate it.. Sorry to get off topic - but I hate to see parades coming to an end...and there is no doubt, the end is near.

EMS is handled by a commercial in my town. It actually triggers a few..lol

Only because the frequency of EMS calls over fires. If our house whistle blew for all ems calls - it would go off ALOT, and quickly grown on people's nerves, especially at night.... It has nothing to do with the potential severity of the cvall.
-
Tradition is our roots, and reminds us that even with all of the bells and whistles and fancy "stuff" we have and do now, our mission remains unchanged. We are firemen....and when there is a fire, people know they can count on us.
-
Tradition? Most of the guys in the fire service have already turned their back on that old dog....sadly.
-
Plain and simple.
-
I am a million percent PRO-house siren, but I think activating it for EMS calls is REDICULOUS! No wonder neighbors complain!
-
Shady as fudge and a poor excuse to get manpower. If you want career men, hire them as such.

Changing over are they?

There is enough SALT in the bucket of that Tower to de-ice all of the roads in Dutchess County.
