Probably not a problem where you call home, huh?
-
Seth needs to up the rep allotment! LOL And of course, once winter hits and the ground freezes, forget about shovelling sod..
-
I finally watched the video - same situation we encountered this past spring with a Hionda...very stubborn fire once the gas tank let go...makes even seasoned vets look like amatuers... So what would be the most effecient agent to apply to such a fire to extinguish it ASAP? Dry chem? Co2? CAFS (just for you Mark! LOL) Most apparatus does not carry enough speedi dri to make a substantial dyke, nor would it be the best product to use for such a device..where would you get a load of sand at off hours and how long would it take? Would it be prudentto start shovelling sod from the homeowner's lawn if possible?

I hope a tree limb goes through my leaky roof so my insurance fixes it! LOL If not - plan on a beer party at my house next spring! Bring your hammers...

I am a big E-One fan - post up your department's E-One pics! Thanks!

OK..so what is the BEST nozzle on the market today? 1 3/4.... primary use would be OSW.
-
Good topic. And I KNOW there are alot of experienced engine guys here..looking forward to the replies. My department is all automatic nozzles, but I really would like to see us phase in smooth bores.

Dang...had my daughter at the park in Millbrook and didnt feel or hear squat...

I really dont know why so many are getting worked up over this... Three pages and not a single bash or criticism of the work done by the several fire departments on scene. A unique challenge met head on resulting in a positive outcome. Really only one voice questioning anything..which has to be a record! LOL Everything from scene management, adequate manpower, a surplus of tools and equipment, etc..everything spot on. This was an incident that we all can learn from, thanks in part to Mark's pics and 2ndAC Schultz' narrative..I know that I learned something from this thread. I can also see the the validity of the questioning of the treatment...I agree with ALS treatment on this patient, but that is one of the troubles with commercial EMS...you never know who you're gonna get. Yes, it all worked out in the end, but I beleive an aggressive medic would have opted to treat differently...I know I would. Again - awesome job Battalion 4 guys....seriously STRONG WORK...Dont let the few negative voices keep you from sharing your information, pictures, and opinions.
-
Then shame on the MEDIC on scene....although I am not surprised...... One point I would like to bring up, and I hate to single one person out, but a real asset in these type of incidents is 31-2. Granted there are alot of farmers in the departments up yonder, but Chris, given his work background on one of Dutchess' biggest farms, as well as his years of training and experience make him worth his weight in gold in Farm/Rescue incidents.
-
So......you are saying even at an MVA they pull a CALF'S LINE!? LOL! Sorry, i couldnt resist. Not all ALL what I was picturing...strong work.

Do you prefer stacked smoothbore tips or adjustable on your aerial waterways? Why? Doing research. Thanks. Attached is our current nozzle of choice, as spec'ed. Although, i THINK, I would prefer stacked tips myself...

61Mack - are you a Yonkers fireman?

I for one would hate to see 10 Engine's house closed or moved out of..it is one of the City's most traditional looking houses!

Lad45der....wow. THANK YOU for that awesome post. Excellent info!

I understand the term "doubtful will hold", I mean, I get the general gist of it...I think...but I just dont understand it I guess...especially in regards to the IA from the truck through the wall in NYC today.. I mean, if you have a "doubtful will hold" incident, shouldnt you be calling in more "stuff"? Maybe someone here can shed the light on this term...is it merely a holdover from days gone by? (I am a big fan of holdovers of tradition FYI). I am not condemning it, as I am ALL ABOUT "big city verbage"...LOL..I have even been reprimanded years ago for calling an "accident with extrication required" a "pin job"... Looking forward to hearing some info...K

So it appears, as I suspected, that for TRUE aggressive firefighting tactics, stacked tips are the way to go. I wonder why so many departments, mine included, opted for the adjustable nozzles then? NOT a bash or condemning their choice, just honest intrigue...I would think we would want the most effective streams possible.

This was also the case in Poughkeepsie and it is a DAMN SHAME THEY GOT RID OF THEM! I found a picture the other day other of dispatch with the big Gamewll reciever...man I miss that!
-
I've used "read direct" a ton back in my Empress days...and "K"..well, I MAY have used that a bunch too... It was actually VERY HARD to break the K habit once I got hired in Poughkeepsie...for some reason, K is frowned upon VERY HEAVILY here in Dutchess. I still manage to slip one out when the "big one" hits...

Wow...I would have gone apedoodoo on that guy if that were my child....
