Look at Camden, NJ...they laid off 1/3 of thier firefighters...and ONE HALF of thier cops! Camden has enough work for both agencies to HIRE those numbers in addition to what they had! It's NOT just firemen...the Brothers in Blue are taking a hurting with DEEP cuts as well.

Amen! Stay safe Brother!

baby steps Chief.....baby steps! LOL

Today's fire service - "Doing more with less" An engine with a tool can do extrication, hoseline protection, AND block traffic...the bean counters see this done and don't see any reason to send a "big, huge, cumbersome, deisel sucking, ladder truck". I guess it makes no matter that a vast majority of today's engines are staffed with 1 or 2 guys....to them.

Beer truck and contents have a much better resale value.

Looks like a ladder tower to me....

Jeez...horrible!

We never locked our truck back in the day....

No EDP, just a selfish, self centered, MUTT

Yet the line will be a mile long for guys trying to get in........

maybe we should call them SPAC's? (Sometimes Paid Ambulance Corp?)

Those are typically called "combo" departments, with the exception of those low down, dirty, cheaters who employee "janitors"....but that is a whol enother thread!

I'm all for that - I just dont understand the use of the acronym VAC, when there are poeple getting paid to operate the units.........is this common?

For Christ's sake - from what I read on here - beggars can't be choosers! It may be old(ish)...it may be dirty...it may be from MT Vernon...but if it helps out the guys in Hartsdale, so be it...Good for them...and good on MV for loaning it...and of course - excellent for the residents of the township that may need it for rescue! Borrowed needs, while not unique needs, are better than no needs....aren't they? How did it work at last night J O B? I imagine well as we have not read anything here about it...

Interesting...not sure how I feel about this. Yet. Were ANY full timers laid off to be replaced with part timers? THIS...I KNOW how I feel about; This POLITICIAN thinks, beleives, and wants a ONE MAN Truck Company...VERY SCARY. I imagine their vollie member base is adequate enough where the professional firemen are referred to as "drivers"..what is their typical truck company staffing when it rolls out the door?

Sorry - I should clear that up... Say my FD allows, and issues me a mobile radio capable of transmitting and recieving. it is programmed with FIRE frequencies only, however, if reprogrammed, it COULD pick up police transmissions.

I think it is an honest question. He does not list alot of info about himself, so we dont know if the OP is a rokkie or a decorated Chief, but let's assume he is a rookie. If he doesn't ask, and the Senior people in the service don't tell and pass it down...true tradition dies.
