I took my Den, Millbrook Den 6, Pack 31, on a "Go See It" to City of Poughkeepsie Station 2 to visit the firefighters for Fire Prevention Month. Knowing some of the members working I knew it would be a great day, but I underestimated just how much the boys loved it. Lt. Levin was a fantastic guide, showing the Scouts the REAL important aspects of both firefighting and "the JOB". Firefighters Cronk and Decuitis did great showing off their Truck, Tower Ladder 2, even letting the boys go into the bucket. It absolutely made their, and my day. Many thanks to the PFD and the members of the Local 596! Lt. Levin addresses the Scouts; FF Cronk setting up TL2 FF Decuitis showing the Scouts how the bucket works. MY Boy!

I gave him the option.....tan like JHK or black......he asked, "what color does Poughkeepsie wear?" Black it is......

   The effects of toooooo much overtime during deer season....sleep is too short and deep.

He didnt state HEAVY smoke condition, just "smoke conditions dictate that it is time to don the SCBA facepiece". There could be a big difference depending on your tolerance to smoke. Common sense can go a long way here........

Getchyou some; Link to Firetruck page I beleive one of these is the old PFD Engine 2...which has most likely seen THE most fire duty in Dutchess County.

To paraphrase Chief Flynn, they are better off than most, yet still undermanned.

The HVNCTA met on Staurday morning for a multi company drill brought together by JHK FF and Past Captain Carl Q. The focus was FF down/Mayday scenarios with removal to EMS. Crews engaged in suppression, search, ventialtion, and of course firefighter rescue. There was PLENTY of action to go around and I feel it was one of, if not the best training situations I have been involved in, in 18 years. The HVNCTA is made up of the Dover, Millbrook, Pawling, Union Vale, and Beekman FD's. Members of the JHK (Dover) fire department also were put through the mask confidence course for yearly SCBA recert purposes. It has been some time since I have been to "The County"...I must say, all of those who helped it evolve to what it is today did FANTASTIC WORK! The Taxpayer is amazing - what a change...the mask confidence course is well thought out and challenging...I STILL hate that feeling of NOT having a light with me...it was great! Again - THANKS to Carl Q, Rich Guilaini for the joe/grub, and the members of the HVNCTA for making it a GREAT training day! I took a crapload of pics, as did the Poughkeepsie Journal. POJO News Article POJO News Photo Gallery On to the pics! (if anyone/department would like to use these pics for their web sites, feel free, but please = photo credit to "JHK129") Members begin to arrive and prepare; Meeting of the "minds!"
