  1. Word around here is that there's an old E-One engine in one of the local junkyards from a Westchester department. I can't for the life of me remember the town, but it was mentioned. Anyway, a few guys from the SPAAMFAA chapter are trying to put together a deal to rescue it (for inclusion in Andy Leider's collection), but the owner of the place is being a heartless blockhead about it. He wants it for the scrap metal value. Won't even sell it for what he thinks the scrap value might be. Last I heard, they were trying to come up with an equal amount of scrap to trade for it. Don't know if the guy will even go for that? He's just bound and determined to do away with it, and doesn't care what anyone else wants it for. What a lowlife. This outfit here (with the above Seagrave) sounds like it's cut from the same mold, and that's just sad.
  2. 704 is, indeed, ex-Bryn Mawr. I believe it was called Squad 23 during it's life there.
  3. More tillers: Middletown, NY Rutherford, NJ Ridgefield Park, NJ Cliffside Park, NJ Garfield, NJ Freeport, NY Glen Cove, NY Elmont, NY .....and add me to the "green monster" list of those who couldn't make it out West. Maybe one of these years....
  4. Will this be a WET wetdown, and will T-shirts and/or mugs be available? Just curious. I hope to be there either way.
  5. I was surprised to see that particular photo of Harrison's new engine in print.....seeing as how it wasn't fully lettered yet. Wonder if we'll see a completed "update" later on?
  6. OK, thanks. Well......in as much as I wish this could be a three event day, I guess I'll just have to settle for two (this and the Boonton, NJ muster). 6th Battalion will have to wait for next year.
  7. Has the start time been changed, or is it still 4 PM?
  8. Hope it's nothing too serious. Get well soon!
  9. That second loaner engine looks an awful lot like Phoenix spec. Wonder how that will work out in a Northeast winter, if it stays around that long, with all that cold air flowing around the motor.
  10. Better ventilation for the engine (motor, that is) so it doesn't overheat in the hot climate of AZ.
  11. I don't know for a fact that Port Jervis bought that rig brand new, but I have no reason to believe they didn't. I do know, however, that they've had it for at least ten years.
  12. Didn't it (color change) also have something to do with one of the Chiefs seeing Irvington's "new" (ex-Somerville) tiller, which is all red, and deciding that THAT was what a fire truck was supposed to look like? I remember reading that somewhere, but not sure if it's fact, speculation, or humor.
  13. At least the results of this one were not as bad as the similar incident up near Canada earlier in the month.
  14. I'd love to see this show sometime, but unfortunately, I'm in a parade that day, and missing another in order to do that, even. I hate when that happens.
  15. What would the taxpayers say if they heard Yonkers was buying two brand new rigs to be designated spare/reserve apparatus? The "stuff" would hit the fan, for sure! Replacing the front line rigs with new ones and having spare apparatus that is not all that old and still in good working order makes sense. Good for them! Best of luck with the new rigs, Yonkers. When's the wetdown? (that's a joke!)
  16. Ahh, I see.......thanks for clarifying. Good luck with the new units when they arrive.
  17. I'm certainly no expert, and don't know how Yonkers operates, but common sense would suggest that they dispose of the oldest ones, and keep the current 71 and 75 as spares when the replacements enter service. I, too, look forward to photos of the newbies. Hopefully someone will provide some. Curious question.....is there a reason why they continued to stay with a 75-foot aerial, as opposed to one of the larger sizes?
  18. And, last but not least, a Dodge Power Wagon out of Pottersville, NJ, and another shot of the beautiful Radnor, PA Mack B-model, during a brief appearance by the sun. I love this rig! That's all I've got for now. Hope everyone enjoys looking at my work.
  19. A beautifully restored 1923 American LaFrance from Toronto, Ontario, and a pair of sweet looking Ahrens-Foxes.
  20. "Big Bertha", a 1923 Ahrens-Fox which formerly served the Syracuse Fire Department, and was restored by members of the Central New York Chapter of SPAAMFAA, pumps water on the shore of Onondaga Lake. And, this is what happens when you charge a hose line that hasn't been used in 20-odd years.....OOPS!
  21. A pair of beautiful Mack B-Models. 1954 from Radnor, PA. and year unknown, lettered for "Buttermilk Farms". Unsure if that's a real department or not, but it looks great, regardless.
  22. 1970 Crown Firecoach pumper......a RARE sight on the East Coast! Also, a 1943 American LaFrance, ex-Middletown, NY. Now privately owned.
  23. "Never Forget" - an ex-FDNY Seagrave ladder lettered with all the names, listed by company, of the 343 brothers lost on September 11, 2001. A sight to behold, no doubt.
  24. Within 10 minutes of arriving at Long Branch Park for Saturday's muster, water was already flying everywhere! Meanwhile, yours truly prepares to gear up for "hard suction detail".
  25. Numerous streams create a rainbow over the canal, and even the ladders got in on the fun!
