  1. Our Fire District hires a medical company who comes to the firehouse to do the physicals. I believe they came on two different dates. If the members cannot make those dates, they must make an appointment and go on their own to the Dr. This must be done by a certain date. If they do not get a physical by the cut-off date, they are sent a certified letter suspending them and requesting their presence at the next Commissioner's meeting. The suspension stays until the physical is done and we have received the paperwork. Also, if they did not take the physical by the cut-off date, they are responsible for paying for the physical. We also do not accept physicals from their personal physician.
  2. Best of Luck with it - looks beautiful! So far we have been very happy with our Lifeline. I agree, their salesman was very accommodating and their service has been excellent.
  3. No, and it is getting down to the wire for me. I expire on 9/30.
  4. In my VAC, the Line Officers and the Chairman of the Board get a $50/month cell phone allowance. In our Fire District, just the (3) Chiefs get cell phones bought and paid for.
  5. Not when I did the games; the ambulance was dedicated to the game. If we transported an injured player to the ER, the game did not stop. (as I said previously, the MD was required, not the ambulance). "we have never gotten money from doing the stand-by's" "if they wanted to give us money that's fine, but we won't be saying 'no' for no money"
  6. If I am not mistaken, Section I does not require an ambulance, just an MD. I believe it is the individual school board's discretion to require an ambulance for the games. A few years ago, Pleasantville VAC stood by for Westlake H.S. home games. We were given a donation at the end of the season as well as one of the 50/50 raffles were given to us. Pace U. requested us for this year. We have done it the past 2-years, without getting a dime from them. They were told they we could not do it this year. As far as I am concerned, when they are getting upwards of $40k for tuition, they can hire an ambulance!
  7. Your foster puppies are adorable! Unfortunately, I already have (2) "rescues", and my husband would kill me if I brought another one home!
  8. I do! I tell my accountant how many calls I do a year, and he takes it from there. Of course it doesn't cover trips back and forth for meetings, drills, etc., but at least it is something! On the Fire District side, at our Organizational Meeting in January, we use the term "Federal allowance" when setting the $ for reimbursement.
  9. I have done extensive research in to this subject, since it is a subject that I am very passionate about. A VAC that is a tax district can bill only if they have a SIGNED RESOLUTION by the governing body (which in our Town would be the Town Board).
  10. Stuck on ambulance duty all day!!!!
  11. On behalf of Pleasantville VAC, Best of Luck with your new ambulance - looks beautiful! Congratulations, Gail Wind Captain - PVAC
  12. Thanks Chris for starting this post - it's about time someone brought this subject up! It really bothers me to see young people especially who cannot spell or use proper grammar. Makes you wonder about the education system these days. If you can't use spell check, how about the good old dictionary!!!
  13. You're absolutely correct, we do not need a pumper. We are establishing a rehab unit, and HFD graciously donated this vehicle to us. By the way Mark, great video!!!
  14. Next time do some research before making a general statement like that!
  15. What about those children who have WORKING parents but may not have health benefits at their jobs? Bet they have to pay doctors "out of their pocket". When I had my children 20+ years ago, insurance did not cover "well baby care", so every time I took them to the doctor for check-ups, vaccines, etc., it came "out of our pocket". The way I am understanding it is, you are not getting handed $500, you are getting a $500 deduction on your State income tax. That's why I said "measly", because to me a $500 tax deduction is not a tremendous amount like some are making it sound and that it is going to be such "a huge burden on the taxpayers".
  16. How come I don't see anyone on here complaining about the Medicaid system; have you seen the commercial on TV where the parents talk about how their child gets taken care of for FREE??? Or the segment that Eyewitness News had on the other morning about the State paying people for sending their kids to school and attending parent-teacher conferences??? That is what disgusts me about where my tax dollars are going - not a measly $500 tax CREDIT going to volunteers.
  17. Forgive my apparent stupidity JFlynn, but what is "qtip"?
  18. In order to provide fuel for members, then Fire District budgets would have to be increased, which increases the $ to taxpayers. I guess I am not seeing your point.
  19. Glad you're not my kid!!!!
  20. That was one of the "glitches" we noted in our critique. We realized that was a mistake on our part and needs to be corrected. I had been away and arrived on scene an hour or so in to it. I was very proud of the way my members were handling the situation. They did a great job, despite a couple of minor "glitches". But that's how we learn and strive to improve.
  21. On behalf of Pleasantville VAC - Congratulations and Best of Luck with your new ambulance! Gail Wind Captain
