The photos are probably taken around 1980 or 1981. I have to check my records as to when we got the Chevy utility. That was donated to the department by a member who had a construction company. It was in service for only a few years. The GMC started out as Engine 95 then became Mini Attack 18, before finally being the first Rescue 37.

I had the pleasure of working with John at the Town of Ossining in the 70's and early 80's. He was a true friend and someone who always looked out for everyone. John brought me in as an associate member in Millwood and he always made you feel like family. My thoughts and prayers go out for his family at this sad time.

Briarcliff purchased their first Hurst Tool somewhere around early 1974. Tommy Daggett was the Chief at the time and Wesco Fire Equipment had one in the shop. Tommy stopped in to see Bernie Rosenblatt and bought it right then and there. The original spreaders have been refurbished and are still on Engine 92.

It is with deep sadness and regret the Scarborough Engine Company of the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department announces the passing of Ex-Capt and Life Member Ron Jankowski. Ron has been an active force in everything that the department has accomplished over the past twenty years. Ron passed away while playing hockey at the Harvey School in Katonah last night. The reason the old antique is Patrol 16 is because when we got the GMC/YOUNG in 1972 the antique was known as Engine 95. The Antique was changed to the little used patrol category and given the designation of Patrol 16. The GMC/YOUNG was given the Engine 95 designation which lasted until I believe some time into the late 70's when the county reclassified some apparatus and it was changed to Mini-attack 18. It remained that designation until it became the first Rescue 37 before we got the current rescue.

One of the teams that services the area is the Hudson Valley Critical Incident Stress Management Team. This team is made up of fire, ems, police, stat flight, and other emergency service members and is available 24/7. The team can be reached by contacting either Westchester, Putnam or Dutchess county fire controls and they will contact the team. Some of the services that are offered include on scene support, one on one peer support, demobilizations, defusings, debriefing, education, and family support services. The team is made up of peers to assist others who can relate to the issues that may be affecting someone or a dept. Privacy is part of the way the team operates. We owe it to our members to provide them with the support they need to deal with tough calls so that we don't make more victims from an incident.

I did't renew my membership last year because I didn't like what was going on. I have still kept the same status with them that I did when I was a member. Hopefully they just need some new blood in their organization to get them back on track.

I agree with you firecapt. We had them on all our pumpers in Briarcliff and slowly began to phase them out in the mid to late seventies after we started to switch over to the 3" supply lines.

Tarrytown DPW has a really nice Walters that is in nice shape

I got my model and as always Barry and Westchester Collectibles did a great job. The detail is great and is another fine addition to the collection.

We had two 1956 B Macks that had this feature. One was a ladder and the other was a pumper. It was a great idea but was never used. I was a driver on the pumper for several years before we retired it and was always told to not bother with it.

When I was in college, my college had our own student fire department. We ran two engines and a squad truck. We had our own dispatch along with an automatic call and to and response from the town fire department. We were located on the Mass and Ct. borders. Our local town department and the nearby dept. in Ct. knew that every time they had an alarm they were getting five members of our dept. responding to the call. We handled all fire inspections on campus and build up a great deal of knowledge working with area departments. Alot of colleges don't realize how many volunteer firefighters are on their campus's and as the junior programs hopefully expand the bigger colleges like SUNY Purchase may be able to develop programs like ours.

Old 94 will be probably auctioned off at some point and the old ladder was donated down south after Katrina last year.

I have collected too much over the years and have just about run out of room. I probably have over 100 fd trucks and a large amount of contstruction equipment. Most of what I collect is 1/50 and 1/64 with a few other special pieces I also have a large collection of mugs and plates and convention stuff from the last 30 plus years.

Briarcliff Manor has two former firehouses still around. The main firehouse was formerly at 1133 Pleasantville Road and Scarborough Engine company was located in a garage behind the Scarborough Presbyterian Church on Route 9 and Scarborough Road. Archville still has an old firehouse located on Requa St. just in from Route 9.

If someone could please post the sections of NYS V&T laws that state you have to have your siren on when you have your lights on. I didn't take the EVOC but have been following the V&T for many years. The only requirement for a having a siren is if you plan to proceed through a stop sign or red light after assuring that it is safe to proceed you have to have lights and sirens operating (vtl 1104). You can then continue on with just your lights on.
