  1. In addition to what Remember585 stated there is a lot wrong with this list: Briarcliff Manor FD 453.2000 does not repeat 46.26 Eastchester FD 453.6750 does not repeat 46.26 Mohegan Lake FD 453.6500 does not repeat 46.26 Peekskill FD neither 453.2250 or 453.8750 repeat 46.26 Port Chester FD 453.3375 not licensed for this frequency Pound Ridge FD neither 453.3500 or 453.9750 repeat 46.26 For correct information see the database at http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=1884.
  2. From The Journal News legal section March 22, 2011: "...NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Croton Falls Fire District expend...a sum not to exceed one hundred ninty thousand...dollars for the purchase of a replacement Brush Truck and a 2011 Polaris Ranger Crew ATV."
  3. Does the White Plains School District get part of the sales tax money, or are they funded through the property tax assessments?
  4. List updated http://emergencyserv...ire/APP2012.pdf 11/15/2012
  5. Normally, coming up out of the front bumper on the Officer's side is an intake, with the discharge coming up out of the bumper on the Driver's side. According to this article http://www.seagrave.com/images/FireRescue%20Mag_FDNY_Nov%2008.pdf FDNY added an additional intake in the front of the bumper.
  6. I believe it is (was) on the North side of Spring Street off of Benedict Avenue, Tarrytown.
  7. It pays to suit up at EVERY call, I do. Here is a link to an article that I read in my copy of Firehouse magazine http://www.firehouse.com/article/10625014/speak-up-3-12. The Captain of this Engine Company required his crew to suit up on EVERY call, EVERY response and the rest is in this article.
  8. In this picture (post 14), is that a CCTV Camera directly in line with the deck gun?
  9. I didn't even think about SAFER, the Capt. is probably right, the "article" referenced the AFG program.
  10. Here's the link to the original "article" posted April 1, 2012 at FireRescue1.com http://www.firerescue1.com/weird-news/articles/1261486-Feds-recall-all-fire-grants/. Also, read the comments, they are almost better than the "article".
  11. They looked real to me.
  12. For some reason today there seems to be some great articles regarding the Fire Service at FireRescue1.com http://www.firerescu...ws/recent-news/. A MUST read is "Entertainment company sues makers of new fire helmet" http://www.firerescu...ew-fire-helmet/. Read some of the comments to the articles, they are just as good.
  13. From The Journal News legal section March 28, 2012 two separate notices: "The Croton Falls Fire District...is selling a 1987 Ford F350 Brush Truck at a minimum bid of $7,000...Bid opening will be April 23, 2012 at 7:00PM." And "...Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the Croton Falls Fire District expend...not to exceed Sixty Thousand Dollars ($60,000) for the purchase of a 1988 Hahn LTI Fire Truck, from the Village of Ardsley, NY."
  14. The TalkGroup listing for this System at RadioReference.com shows the REMSCO Talkgroup as 5440 (see FDNY Talkgroups)
  15. To the best of my knowledge, the only TalkGroups on the Fire/EMS side of the System are Fire 10-19, EMS 10-19, Ops 1-10, Tacs 1-10. There are reports of several maintenance TG's (i.e. Training, Admin, Radio Maintenance, etc,) that I have not heard, but I have not heard of these being programmed in the typical Front Line Apparatus. According to a bulletin that Westchester County put out on the UHF Trunked System in June 2004, the bulletin states "Further, it is not intended to replace any existing Fire Department's or EMS Agency's individual radio communication system". With that said, it is up to each individual agency how they would like to use the Trunked System. As alsfirefighter stated it is best to contact 60 Control with specific questions.
  16. From the Westchester County DES website, C.A.D. Valid Unit Descriptions indicate that the descriptors are from NFPA 1901 - Fire Apparatus Standard.
  17. I found this at FireRescue1.com. It is a time lapse of a Fire Station in the U.K.
  18. I never met him, but it sounds like he was a great guy. The world could use more guys like him. RIP.
  19. DON'T GET SCAMMED!!!!! Narrowbanding is only required for frequencies in the 150MHz - 174MHz, & 421MHz - 512MHz bands see this FCC Link. Recently I have seen a couple of local area agencies submitting applications to the FCC to narrowband their Low Band 30MHz - 50MHz licenses. Licenses for Low Band frequencies DO NOT need to be narrowbanded. Again, DON'T GET SCAMMED!!!!
  20. There have been many advances in Firefighting technology over the years which have made our jobs easier, but IMO "200 years of tradition, unimpeded by progress" in many areas is not a joke. You only have to look at the NIOSH Firefighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program website to see that the same things keep injuring and killing Firefighters. There is a saying that I heard or read, and I paraphrase it here, which goes something like "Firefighters are some of the most creative people in the world, because they can get almost anything done with almost nothing, but they are also some of the dumbest people in the world because they haven't created a new way of injuring or killing themselves in a long time." As Sir Winston Churchill said "Those that don't learn from history, are doomed to repeat it." Too often we ignore history (LODD or FF injury) because we believe that this history can never happen to us, that that event occurred in a different State, Country, etc. and it can not ever happen to us.
  21. PEMO3, I know it is probably a typo, but there is no UTAC40 it is UCALL40.
  22. John, As an owner of a Security System installation company, and board member of Regional Alarm and System Integarators Association (covering Westchester, Rockland & Putnam Counties) dashield has listed the applicable parts of NFPA 72 - 2010 edition. You may have an out with your local ordinance. I will PM you with the points. Steve
  23. Nobody has mentioned not to press the doorbell button, DON'T. And as stated above wear your gear, as the Rockland incident pointed out. Last week I was at a report of odor of gas in the area. After suiting up I noticed our Company Lt. in civies carrying his portable radio around the scene, I asked him if we needed to suit up. His answer to me was no .
  24. Any analog TrunkTracker scanner will follow the Westchester UHF System. You do not need a digital scanner unless you want to listen to Yonkers PD, Greenburg PD or Dobbs Ferry PD (those are the only local agencies using digital at this time). If you need help programming it we are always willing to help.
  25. While looking at the Firematic website I see that Mount Vernon Police Dept. has taken delivery of a new B.R.A.T. Emergency Services truck. From their deliveries page, it looks like this is the first PD ESU they have built. There are also pictures of an FDNY rig. This is probably a Brush Fire Unit. Other FDNY BFU pictures from FDNYTrucks.com can be seen at these links: BFU 4 & ATV 154 BFU 3 BFU 5 BFU 1 & ATV 164 BFU 2 BFU 7 BFU 6 ATRV 329
