  1. Anyone else here the whoosh sound at the top and bottom of the hour? It goes for about 5 seconds each time. Been hearing it for the last 3 or 4 days.
  2. Came across this link on the Fordyce site.http://www.co.rockland.ny.us/Fire/press/RC...CNewsletter.pdf
  3. From The Journal News legal section 4/5/05, "Resolution authorizing the issuance of $480,000 serial bonds...to pay the cost of the acquisition of fire-fighting vehicles...".
  4. Just remember when it hits the fan, NFPA 1500 states "Drivers shall not move fire department vehicles until all persons on the vehicle are seated and secured with seat belts in approved riding positions...". This just means that the driver of the vehicle will be held personally liable for the safety of the crew onboard. This is also stressed in the EVOC course.
  5. FYI - According to the DES website HQ is 219 Mamaroneck and Station 1 is 93 Prescott. I believe the last time I drove by there was a sign out front of 93 Prescott with Station 1 on it.
  6. Oops, the rumor I heard was that E77 will be in the new house with TL78. E77(Consolidated Eng) used to be on Sheldon Ave. in the South end of the Village before their house was torn down. From the 3/11/05 Journal News Legal Section, the Tarrytown Village Board approved issuing a bond for $992,000 for "the acquistion of a fire-fighting vehicle and apparatus". They should have ordered a couple more airpaks and make it Westchester County's first million dollar apparatus. lol.
  7. The rumor I heard is that it will be replacing E78(the oldest in the Dept.) TL78 on the County list is already reserved for Tarrytown. Heard that it will be stationed at the new house in the Route 119 area with E80.
  8. 453.275 Lake Mohegan 460.2375 Katonah 453.4125 Montrose 453.2625 Banksville
  9. Here's another poor example. About two years ago on a meeting night we get dispatched to a "wall fire". Nine guys in the rig and only one "Firefighter" suits up. It turns out to be an electrical dimmer switch burning in the interior wall. The TIC showed a plume almost to the ceiling. NFPA 1720, the "Volunteer FD Standard" states "(u)pon assembling the neccessary resources at the emergency scene, the fire department shall have the capability to safely initiate an initial attack within two minutes 90 percent of the time." Once on scene how long would it take your Firefigthers to put on all of their PPE?
  10. The guy at the door is looking at the wrong end of the TIC.
  11. If only we had accountability. Dept. tried it about 6 years ago, was never enforced, and then it disappeared. As the saying goes "it's the way we've always done it."
  12. Excellent frequency site is www.fordyce.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi#Updates & the old FCC site at http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/ge...enmen/index.hts
  13. Try 453.2875MHz. FCC website states they are licensed for 70 units.
  14. pbvbm wrote Our local dispatch (PD) has some good and some "not so good" dispatchers regarding dispatch of the Fire Dept. All FD dispatch assigngments (boxes) are displayed on their computer screen when the call is taken. Many times the assignment is the wrong one because the dispatcher will send what he thinks should go rather than looking at the screen. What do you do when you know the call address is one your Co. is assigned but dispatch has sent the wrong box. Do you respond or don't you? It has happened so often the Chief has told all Co.'s to respond as if the correct box was dispatched. If this is the case why even bother sending the box, just everyone go when they feel like it. All it takes is a professional who knows what to do when dispatching.
  15. Just looking through the events calendar and saw there has not been an update on this post. I have been to several of these and they are well attended. Any definite date and time for this?
  16. They are still in the Chief's Cars and 3 Engines. With the new UHF Fireground radios we have been instructed that they will not be used. The Chief's, Deputy Chief's and all apparatus Drivers portable radios have UHF access to area repeater links to 46.26MHz.
  17. The system will be for Fire, EMS and the County Bus System(for interoperability ie. evacuation). Base radios will be installed in all(?) PD's along with Hospitals as per the original bid RFP. According to radioupdate #2 portable radios will only be provided for Chief Officers.
  18. Ossining will be going out to bid to replace their Fireboat this year. Thirty foot with 1000GPM pump.
  19. NFPA 1500 states "Drivers shall not move fire department vehicles until all persons on the vehicle are seated and secured with seat belts in approved riding positions".
  20. Ossining FD is now operating on Fireground 3 for scene operations. The Department purchased 48 Kenwood TK3180's, along with 12 existing TK360's. All Engine and Ladder Company's were assigned 4 TK3180's along with all Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs.
  21. Bearcat 246T portable, 898T base are in the $225 range.
  22. IMO with the new trunked UHF radio system coming online, it is a waste of $ to invest in any more low band radio equipment. The trunked system is actually a sophisticated repeater system. When you are in range of one of the seven towers (according to the RFP), you will be able to talk throughout the network wherever there is a radio assigned to your talkgroup. As an example Department "A" has unit in Croton and another unit in Rye. The unit in Croton would transmit to the Ossining tower and the network would retransmit the signal both through the Ossining tower and the Port Chester tower. If Department "A" only has units near the Ossining tower, only this tower would transmit signals back to this talkgroup thus cutting down on alot of radio congestion that is not neccessary where it is not needed. This is accomplished by the towers tracking the location of all radios that are turned on, similar to cellphone operation. Low band radio will still be used, but only for dispatch purposes. As soon as an apparatus starts responding it will be using the trunked system, not 46.26.
  23. The On-Spots on our rig just don't cut it when backing slightly uphill back in to quarters. Had to gently get to the bottom of the hill then back down hill into quarters.
  24. Check out Putnam County's requirements for Interior Firefighter and Company Officer at www.pcbes.org/announcement.htm
