  1. What facility in Westchester has the Engine you refer to? Armonk, Yorktown, Hawthorne?
  2. BMFD231 I understand that the UHF portables will not communicate to 60 Control through the trunked system and the system was not designed for fireground operations. The point I was trying to make is that if an FD that uses its "private" frequency for any fireground operations, how easy is it operationally to switch the whole Department over to a County Fireground channel. The example I gave in my previous post where a FF arrives on scene to a working fire, when does the FF switch from the FD's "private" frequency to a County FG channel, and who is to give this order. If the FF was trapped inside on his "private" frequency because he did not receive the order to change, or the order was not given, the only contact he would have with the outside world would be on his own FD frequency. Incoming FASTeam(s) would not be able to communicate with him/her unless they borrowed a radio with the "private" frequency on it. It just seems to me to be confusing as to which channel to use. IMO if the County FG's were used 24/7/365 it is just one less thing to have to worry about. The KISS principle. This is not even mentioning the FD's that have been on, or recently established their own VHF radio systems. This is an even more difficult change not even being in the same frequency band. This is my concern regarding interoperability.
  3. I use Mavis in Ossining for tires and front end work. Always good work, no problems.
  4. When I saw it in the newspaper, my first thought was why would they need the new FieldCom 1 at the scene? Reason being that the new FC has a satellite dish.
  5. Battalion 12 is the opening. This was mentioned at our Officer's Meeting last week that Tony Bosco is stepping down.
  6. I heard the same thing from our Chief. I have a similar problem. My Pro97 portable cannot "hear" the system inside my house, yet my Pro2055 base with a roof antenna "hears" the North Zone fine and barely the South Zone. The problem with any trunked system is that if the scanner cannot "hear" the Control Channel frequency you basically will not be able to listen to the system. Depending on where you are in Greenwich you should be able to hear one or both of the Zones; Port Chester-South Zone, or Pound Ridge and Bedford-North Zone. I have picked up both driving along I95. The Control Channels - North Zone 470.5750Mhz & South Zone 476.2375Mhz have been transmitting for several months now. Back in March I was able to hear the audio and coverage testing throughout the County.
  7. We will only being using it when we go Mutual Aid.
  8. The Fall before last I saw a hydrant that was covered with a pile of leaves that had fallen from the trees. The only way you would know a hydrant was there was because it had a snow stick attached to it.
  9. According to the DES Station Locations WPFD has six stations. I know there is one on Ridgeway by the County Center that is not used anymore.
  10. As an Officer in my Company, I always ask if everyone on board is buckled up before we leave quarters. Very few members buckle up. Even though there is a stated Department policy (from Department Officer's Meeting minutes, there are no current Department SOP's) that seat belts will be used, there are no written disciplinary actions for not following this policy. Without disciplinary authority, Officers have very little help in enforcing this policy.
  11. From The Journal News legal section 7/06/07 - "...sealed bids will be received by the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Hawthorne Fire District...on July 19, 2007 for the purchase of a 75' Single Axle Quint Aerial Ladder Fire Truck".
  12. According to the FCC's Website, Brookfield Fire Co. is licensed for the frequency pair 453.9875/458.9875. Program 453.9875 in your scanner, this is more than likely the repeater output which will give you a better signal than listening for the input which is probably 458.9875. It says they have been licensed for these freq's since 4/02. This is probably not the dispatch freq. since it is limited to two watts of power.
  13. Fron a previous thread on Yonkers upcoming deliveries: Looks like they will have something similar 5K vs what looks like an 8K tank.
  14. Zero people in the U.S. with my last name. When did N.Y. secede?
  15. Westchester County DES Apparatus List. List does not have Car #'s, etc, but gives all assigned apparatus.
  16. From The Journal News legal section 7/07/07 "Village of Port Chester...Bond Resolution dated July 2, 2007 authorizing the issuance of up to $530,000...to finance the costs of the acquistion of a fire-fighting vehicle..." Would this be for Ladder 31 or is an Engine also getting replaced?
  17. Nichols Fire Apparatus in Hyde Park, the E-One dealer for the region.
  18. From a list compiled from Frank Raffa's site FDNewYork.com/list there are ten Foam Units. The list states they are stationed with their corresponding Engine Company's. They are Foam 95, 96, 152, 154, 167, 206, 260, 262, 321, and Foam Tender at E238. Satellites are stationed at Sat1/E9, Sat 2/E72, Sat3/E284, Sat 4/E324, Sat5/E159, Sat6/E206. Pictures of these can be found at FDNYTrucks.com. More FDNY info can be found at FDNewYork.com.
  19. No guarantees on sizes. Before I was issued my own gear, just recently, there were several times where by the time I got to the alarm (working fire) all the gear was stripped from the Engine. Loads of fun standing around and not being able to work.
  20. We're required to carry a full set of gear for each seat on the rig. Coats stuffed under the seats, pants & boots on the cab floor in front of each seat, and helmets hung from the walls. Reason being for members who have not been issued gear or members who did not bring their gear with them. Definately makes for an interesting ride climbing over all the gear.
  21. With New Rochelle having Ladder 12 and Hawthorne having Tower Ladder 12, I wonder if Hawthorne will opt for a new number for this Ladder? According to the current Westchester County Apparatus List, Ladder 54 is still available. Maybe bring back the "54" number with memories of the old Engine 154?
  22. Found on the FCC's website that Katonah FD has a pending application for a new repeater frequency pair 460/465.5875Mhz. Info can be found at FCC Katonah FD Application.
  23. I completely forgot about Brooksville's Mack.
  24. For more detailed info on these freq's check out http://www.npstc.org/documents/IO-0060A-20...20Committee.pdf
  25. Through the grapevine I heard that Katonah had a Smeal demo at their HQ last week.
