  1. While driving through Mamaroneck the other day I drove by the new Firehouse. Progress is being made, the steelwork is all up. It is going to be an impressive building from the size of it. Anyone with a camera might want to post a picture. Previous thread at Mamaroneck Village Firehouse.
  2. Basically, as of tomorrow 2/18/08 cellular carriers are no longer required to support analog cellular service. The FCC has given plenty of notice that this deadline was coming. The alarm industry has had to deal with this by changing over radio transmiters that send signals to Central Stations from analog to digital. I have also heard that earlier versions of OnStar™ are also affected by this.
  3. Another site worth visiting is State of Indiana Firefighter Training System. Besides the main page hyperlinks, click on the links below DHS Home for more links. You can definately spend a good deal of time here.
  4. As jack10562 stated above, I also thought that "this could stir a good discussion". This being which color is the "safest" apparatus color. I guess by the lack of opposing responses "everyone" knows which color is the safest (lime yellow), they just don't want to admit it.
  5. Excellent site, I visit it often.
  6. Came across this about a week ago. Check out State of Indiana Firefighter Training System. This site has a truckload of information on it. Besides the hyperlinks on the main page, click on the links to the left under DHS Home for even more links. Well worth the visit, you can spend a lot of time just viewing what is on the site.
  7. IMO if the OIC has any integrity he would only count real training as "training".
  8. No, we don't. U51 is only used when we are called out of town.
  9. It is well worth it. The supplied antenna is for multi band and does not do any band very well. The Diamond RH77CA is tuned for best reception at 150MHz and 450MHz. It will blow the supplied antenna away.
  10. I'll take 18, 34, 98.
  11. Do you have the banks set for Motorola? And when you manually go to one of the Control Channel channels (470.575 or 476.2375MHz) do you hear the CC datastream? If you don't hear this "noise" you are not within range of the system. Also assume you have entered all the frequencies mentioned in this thread EMTBravo Westchester Trunked System post #60.
  12. It's right around the corner off of Rt. 119. Corner of Sheldon Avenue and East Meadow St.(which is off of Rt. 119). E77's new House.
  13. Not everyone "loves" red fire apparatus. A few of us still prefer lime yellow for the reason you see in the BBC picture - it is a lot more visible. Visibility is the key to getting the motoring public to slow down around our work zones. If color is the way to do it, and if studies prove it is safer, then FD's and other agencies should be more progressive in protecting its members and start specing apparatus with "safer" color schemes.
  14. I heard Grasslands Brigade respond to a call this morning using the Trunked System. This would make Battalion 11 the first Battalion to completely switch to the new System.
  15. If anyone wants to hear what the Powercall sirens sound like, among others, go to Siren Sounds. Have a blast!
  16. Technically what you are stating is not directly possible. The Trunked System is on UHF and Low Band is VHF. Pagers are only available in single band - low VHF, high VHF or UHF. What YHFD is probably doing is retransmitting Fire 17 over an alternate low band frequency through a repeater.
  17. The only TL that I know that Scarsdale has(had) is the current 1999 Sutphen. This unit replaced a 1970's ALF Snorkle. If I am not mistaken it was either all red, or white over red.
  18. Last night I heard Yorktown FD paged out with notification to use 46.26MHz, not Fire 17, for all responses. Just wondering if anyone knows what the reason for this is?
  19. For MUCH better reception get the Diamond RH77CA Antenna. I've got it on my Pro97 and it is like night and day. The antenna the scanner comes with is multiband for all the bands the scanner receives. The RH77CA is specifically designed for best reception on VHF & UHF. I couldn't believe the improvement in reception. Well worth the $25 price. NOTE - this antenna is about fifteen inches long, but again well worth it. Jack10562, you might want to check your settings, Control Channel Mode is only for 800MHz Systems. The reason we need to program the Base/Spacing/Offset settings is because scanners can't track VHF/UHF systems in Control Channel Mode. The reason for this is that the 800MHz frequencies are all assigned a channel number. In Control Channel Mode, when the Control Channel sends out an Outbound Signaling Word(the data all the radios in that Talkgroup need to know what channel to go to) this OSW signal tells the radio what 800MHz channel to go to. The VHF/UHF frequencies are not assigned numbers. The VHF/UHF frequencies in any system do have numbers assigned to them, but these numbers are not standard anywhere except the individual system. The Base/Spacing/Offset settings tell your scanner which channel to go to for the individual system. DOC22, if you manually go to 476.2375MHz (the South Zone Control Channel) you will hear the Control Channel datastream, like Jack mentioned above. If you do not hear this then you are out of range of the South Zone, and you will not be able to follow any transmissions associated with South Zone only transmissions. This does not mean you will not be able to hear transmissions form down South, because, as mentioned in previous posts, if a unit (Chief, Portable, Apparatus) from a South Zone agency is in the North Zone, that transmission will be retransmitted on both the South and North Zone towers.
  20. It's also tomorrow, Sunday till 5PM. I believe info can be found at L.I. Fire Rescue Expo.
  21. Congatulations TR. Keep up the great work.
  22. Around 0800 this morning I heard something regarding Mount Kisco FD starting to use the Trunked System effective the above noted time. Also I have been hearing Irvington FD using the System for their responses. Can anyone officially confirm these two additions to the list of agencies using the System. The current list I have compiled from previous posts is as follows: Fire 11 - Hawthorne FD, Pleasantville FD, Thornwood FD, Valhalla FD Fire 13 - Croton Falls FD, South Salem FD Fire 16 - Bedford FD, Bedford Hills FD, Chappaqua FD, Katonah FD, Mount Kisco FD Fire 17 - Yorktown FD Fire 19 - Purchase FD EMS 11 - Hawthorne FD EMS EMS 13 - Pound Ridge VAC EMS 16 - Bedford FD EMS If anyone has any additions to bring this list current, feel free to post to this thread. (Yorktown effective 1/14/08 0001hr) Thanks to NWSafetyguy, EMSjunkie712 for updates. Also, can anyone confirm Vista FD running on the System?
  23. This is one of the drawbacks of a Trunked System. In order to retransmit Low Band paging over a Talkgroup (from what I understand), you would have to retransmit everything on that frequency. This would cause the same problems that we have had with 46.26MHz for ages, mainly that Dispatch and Operations are on the same frequency. Paging will remain on Low Band, so you will keep your existing pager.
  24. TR54 told me that they are doing their 1810 test everyday on the new system. I heard L12 go M/A the other day also. I was just looking to see if anyone had news of anyone going "fulltime" on the system.
