DOC, I guess you'll have to plug in BFD's PL to block out Brooklyn.

YES there is! Diamond RH77A. I have it and several other members have it. It is well worth it.

Here is the link to ISO's Public Protectection Classification program.

for link to the full article go to Firehouse.com. Hopefully this will be a wake up call for better utilization of resources to meet the demands of the Citizens we serve. Link to the full report - N.Y. State Commision on Local Government Efficiency. Link to the Recommendations are here. Recommendations #37 - 44 pertain to the Fire Services of New York State.

Anyone planning on going to the Lancaster County Fire Expo next weekend (May 16-18)? Advertised with 230 Emergency Vehicles and 418 Vendors. This is supposed to be one of the biggest fire shows on the East Coast.

I just finished reading this draft report and it is sad. Sad that in this day FD's are still using 2 1/2" hose for Supply Line, and 1 1/2" hose for Attack Line. Read the report to see how, as much as we complain about how we do things, other areas of the country are farther behind than us. It is sad.

Maybe look in to running it off of an Uninteruptable Power Supply (UPS) like they have for computers.

Handheld (portable) scanners all run on batteries. A list of these can be found at Wiki - Radioreference.com. These scanners can be run on AC by use of a plug in transformer.

Greenville is in Batt. 18. The 15 may have come from the 150, 151 series number the GFD runs for its Engines.

JT - Way to go! He is from OFD. I know you will do a good job.

Here is a link to The Journal News Opinion piece by Milton Hoffman, retired senior editor of The Journal News. The piece is in regards to the Commision report, but focuses on the Education aspect of the report.

Cap, I grew up in, and my first FD was Croton FD. CFD is a Municipal FD which does provide protection to the Districts noted that are in the Town of Cortlandt. According to the following Village links Tarrytown, Elmsford, and Hastings, these three FD's are Departments of their Municipal Governments. TFD and EFD's websites do reference Fire Districts, but those I believe are mentioned because they cover Districts outside the Villages as CFD does in Cortlandt.
-
FYI - Croton on Hudson and Tarrytown are Municipal (Village) FD's. I believe Elmsford is also a Village FD. Pleasantville is a Village, but the FD is a Fire District. Harrison and Mount Kisco are coterminus Town/Villages, I don't recall if they are Municipal or Fire District.

Yeah, that's the one. Hawkes Avenue overpass is directly North of Rt.134, then Stormytown Road. Northbound Rt.9A can turn West onto Stormytown Road, but Stormytown Road Eastbound cannot turn Northbound onto Rt.9A.

Valid Unit Types and requirements can be found at the DES Website

Came across some more pic's at 4Guysfire.com.

Lawyers will sue as many people/organizations as they can that are involved in an incident. During trial people and organizations will be found to what degree they are responsible or not responsible. You, as the person that caused the incident, will always be to a certain degree responsible, and therefore held personally responsible. This means that you risk losing your house, your savings, etc., not to mention possibly being charged criminally. This is why you should use caution (I hate the phrase "Proceed with Caution", we should always proceed with caution even in emergency mode) in responding to the Firehouse or the incident.

Just an FYI, if multiple Departments start patching their TG (ie Fire 16, Fire 17, etc.) to 46.22MHz, then you will be able to hear all these TG's in the area of that particular repeater. The drawback to this concept is that if multiple TG's are transmitting at the same time, all the trunked system to 46.22MHz repeaters would key up at the same time therefore each one stepping on the other and no one being able to hear anything.
-
No, I don't know of any other trunked system to low band freqs. As I posted in today's other trunked system thread, Yorktown FD is rumored to be looking to do the same thing for Fire 17.
-
Check out this thread from EMTBravo. In addition to this thread I know Montrose FD and Ardsley FD are on the system. Dobbs Ferry FD has been using it sometimes. Yorktown FD is back on 46.26MHz from what I have heard until they can get the trunked system patched to their pagers. Just an FYI for everyone, found this link by clicking the Search feature (top right) and typed in "trunked". This thread came back in the search results. Search is easy to use .

The last time I recall seeing E145, CFD had 3" hose on that reel. This goes back some time, so I may be wrong. The other two Engines I know have 5".

FYI, the following report has all the National Interoperational Frequencies.

I checked with him and the above is correct, up means working the day tour, down means the night tour. Working up and down means working a double shift, essentially a 24 hour tour.

As stated in the Firehouse.com article listed above, the problem is that with all the noise on the fireground, the digital radio cannot differentiate between background noise and human speech. Hopefully, as the article points out, with the transition to full rate vocoders (as opposed to Motorola's current half rate vocoder) this problem will be corrected so that digital radios can be used more effectively in the Fire Service. A discussion of this topic can be found at RadioReference.com.

A little bit off topic, in my previous Company when we sec'd the new rig, we ordered the suction sleeves with Storz couplings. For the few times I used them before I transferred they seemed to work fine. Anyone else have these couplings on their suction sleeves?
