  1. The Chief said they would call him when they are in the area, but it will be sometime after 12PM, probably till 2PM?(maybe). That's as specific I know as of now.
  2. You might want to check out the forums at Elightbars.org. From what I have read there, they are to emergency lighting what EMTBravo is to Fire and EMS. I recently got the Whacker Technologies Inciter EX from NWAPublicSafety.com. It got very good reviews from elightbars and when I ordered it, rather than shipping it from his location (Arkansas), he had it shipped directly from the his distributor (Brooklyn, NY). Ordered it at 3PM, received it by 3PM the next day. When I received it, it looked small, but it really packs a punch in a small package, and at $125 it is well worrth it.
  3. I've heard them both yesterday and today also. According to NF2G.com TG 37104 is assigned to RACES - Radio Amatuer Civil Emergency Services. The local group is WECA - Westchester Emergency Communications Association. Basically they are the local "Ham Radio" group. I heard them today talking about all six channels, "put the control channel back on channel one", among other things. Around 12:30P they said they would meet at the next site between 1:30P - 2:00P.
  4. And eleven other Westchester FD's.
  5. Valuable limited frequencies? TFD is on their own freq. the only one in Westchester on it, so it is not like they are stepping on anyone else in the County. I could go on about FD private freq's but that is for another thread, another day, not to get off topic.
  6. Pro2055-Home, Pro2051-Mobile, Pro97 w/Diamond RH77CA antenna-portable
  7. The lohud.com article stated "The department had allocated about $50,000 to transition from VHF portable radios to new UHF radios, but later found that it would need about $65,000 to complete the installation in all 11 vehicles the department uses." Is this project just for portables or also apparatus radios? If this does include apparatus radios, why couldn't they program their UHF freq into the conventional bank of the trunked radio? Also checked the FCC Database and found that the Village of Scarsdale is not licensed, or have any pending applications, for operation in the UHF band.
  8. Asked the Crimson-Fire sales rep that question last Sunday when we met. He said it is scheduled for delivery this November.
  9. I heard it call for a radio test on the trunked system this AM.
  10. DOC, According to the Easier to Read Pro 97 Scanner Guide in the section "In Receive Mode" the lightning bolt means the scanner is receiving a transmission or a tone is being received. Steve
  11. Technically they are not required now. NFPA 1901, Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, 2009 Edition states "1.3.1 This standard shall apply to new fire apparatus that meet the following criteria:... (3) That are contracted for on or after January 1, 2009." "1.3.2 Nothing shall prevent the use of the standard prior to January 1, 2009 if the purchaser and contractor both agree."
  12. May they rest in peace. As others have stated above, let us learn and not let them have died in vain. To learn about this tragedy read the report. I will say this again read the report. There is so much to learn in it. Link to the report can be found at Firehouse.com - Charleston Fire Report. It is a long report (272 pages), but read some every day. It is a sad report.
  13. NFPA Standards are what are called "consensus standards". What this means is that they are put together by a majority consensus of the voting members of the NFPA. In other words these are rules that are put togther by your peers in your industry (fire/ems). Other sections of the NFPA have other standards that are voted on by their peers (electricians on the the National Electical Code, HVAC techs for Air-Conditioning and Ventilating Systems, and many other codes). All members of the NFPA can make recommendations and vote on any and all standards up for revision. So, if you do get brought in to court for an intersection incident (as NYS Law says to slow down at an intersection , and NFPA says to stop at the intersection) a prosecuting attorney will address the jury with the fact that even though you obeyed NYS Law, you disregarded an industry standard that a majority of your fellow firefighters and EMT's have adopted and abide by. The jury will listen to this and decide your fate on this presentation. Stay safe.
  14. Just an FYI for those who haven't heard yet FDNY is in the process of building two new UHF Radio Systems. For info see the thread at RadioReference.com and RadioReference.com FDNY testing.
  15. Found this article at Firerescue1.com This seems to be a sensible regulation, and it makes the IC think about what he is committing his troops to. As the saying goes, risk a lot to save a life, risk a little to save property. NOTE: This is not the full article, as per EMTBravo.com regulations. Link above is to the full article.
  16. The individual Engine Company boxes are 8-x(8-1 for E96 through 8-6 for E101). This is also how the 7-x boxes for R14 and an Engine Co. works. Ladder Co. box is box 5 on a three month alternating basis (L41 Jan-Mar,Jul-Sep),(L42 Apr-Jun,Oct-Dec). U51 as FAST runs with E98 on box 8-3. Individual street boxes are no longer used, probably as least 30-40 years ago they were discontinued. An FYI, Steamer Co. on Central Ave owns their house which is the same building (except it is upstairs) that L41 used to be housed at on Main St. In other words, L41 used to be upstairs on Main St, while E98 is downstairs around the corner on Central Ave. Indepependent Co. also owns their own building, The other five house are owned by the Village of Ossining.
  17. For info on scanners check out the Forums and Wiki at RadioReference.com.
  18. Caught this show Hacking Democracy on HBO this morning. Definately an eye opener regarding how electronic voting can be manipulated. Check it out. 19. Looking at the names on the two stations, did the two Companies change the Company numbers in their names? According to Tarrytown FD Apparatus, Washington Engine is "Co. #2", while Consolidated Engine is "Co. #1", not the Westchester County number's posted on the fronts of the buildings.
  20. While driving through Armonk today noticed a sign on Rt.22 and Main Street. There was a sign, along with other posted community events, that Armonk FD is having an Open House this Sunday May 18, 2008 from 12PM-5PM. That is all I caught as I was driving by. Looks like it is open to the public since it was posted out in public.
  21. Link to the Navy's Official NYC Fleet Week 2008 site with links to events, ships attending, etc.
  22. If I recall correctly Peekskill Volunteers are not allowed to drive the rigs. I heard this when PFD first got their Boat and the Career FF's did not want the Vol's piloting the Boat. I may be wrong, so if so feel free to correct me.
  23. Didn't realize that. Not much posted there besides what is posted above from recordonline.com.
  24. From RocklandFires.com there is a trench collapse in Kiryas Joel. Occurred approx 1935.
