  1. July 2, 2009 1015, We now have 9,999 Members! NEXT!!!
  2. From The Journal News Legal Notices 06/19/09 "Sealed bids for the following ... Used/Surplus Aerial Ladder Fire Truck 6/26/09". With the new ALF L32 coming in, I would guess this is the 1985 LTI (old L32 before the current Ford/Smeal).
  3. Thanks for the response. My Co. is specing (actually has speced) a new Engine, (just waiting for funding) but I thought that as a member of the committee I might take a ride to see what is new this year.
  4. According to this link EMTBravo, the link for Fire 16 is retransmitted from the Katonah FD on 46.22MHz. Also on this thread South Salem FD retransmits Fire 13 on 45.72MHz.
  5. That Mack Collapse Rescue looks like the outline of the grill is fashioned in to the Mack "M" lol
  6. Found a pending application for new frequencies for Croton on Hudson EMS at the FCC Database. The new frequency pair is 471.4000/474.4000MHz. Locations for base operations are Croton PD, and the Harmon Firehouse, with the repeater on Mount Airy, most probably at the Hessian Hill Roads site.
  7. As an FYI, I found a site with a timeline of the case at New Haven Firefighter case.
  8. I drove by the new Village of Mamaroneck firehouse last week and saw that E39, E40 and L20 are now located in the new building. Anyone have more info when it opened and if/when an open house is planned?
  9. Looking through the Crimson-fire.com website found that progress is being made on Scarsdale's new Engine.
  10. But, the question I'm asking is does the Pierce engine have a full Mack engine, etc to justify the gold bulldogs?
  11. What's with the gold Mack bulldogs on E155? I know the old E155 was a Mack. My understanding is that if a apparatus has a gold bulldog it has a Mack engine, while a chrome one means it is not a Mack engine (Detroit, Caterpilar, etc.)
  12. Ossining has horns and house sirens. On a clear day in the Summer, I can hear the Grasslands horn, in Ossining, when they have a box alarm.
  13. Saw this on the new this morning and found this link at Cameratown.com. Ritz Camera is closing 300 stores nationwide, the above linked article has a link to the locations of all the stores closings. I stopped by the Tarrytown store today, which is closing, and found that all items were on sale from 10-20% off. The sale started today, 4/04. Check out the list of store closings for a location near you.
  14. Saw this at Firehouse.com that the Town of Mamaroneck was awarded an Assistance to Firefighter Grant - round 29. The grant was in the catagory of Operations and Safety with an amount of $ 214,838. Congratulations to the TMFD.
  15. This, IMO, is the drawback to Westchester's 911 System. All landline calls goes to the local PSAP (one of fifty two if I recall correctly), 100% of the time. This local PSAP is most likely the local PD, who will then direct the call at their discretion.
  16. We have been told that when a call has been dispatched incorrectly, only the assigned Company's for that area are to respond. This means that if the call is in the South End of the Village and the North End Company's have been dispatched, only the South End Company's are supposed to respond. Not everyone remembers this at all times, so you could be getting four Engines, two Ladders and a Rescue for a call that could easily be handled with a single Engine. And don't get me started on our "General Alarm" (six Engines, two Ladders, and a Rescue) for an actiated fire alarm. Hopefully change will be in the future.
  17. Saw this at Firehouse.com that the three following Westchester County FD's were awarded Assistance to Firefighter Grants - round 27. Pelham Manor - $34,200 for Operations and Safety catagory Hastings - $75,594 for Operations and Safety catagory Dobbs Ferry - $30,495 for Operations and Safety catagory Congratulations to the three FD's.
  18. From FEMA's Firegrantsupport.com here is what is eligible in this catagory:
  19. Saw this at Firehouse.com, Irvington FD awarded an Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) in the amount of $146,625. IFD awarded this in the Operations and Safety catagory. Congrats IFD.
  20. Your claim that an alarm signal takes 10 to 25+ minutes to process, is an issue that, IMO, requires the IMMEDIATE attention of the local Authority Having Jurisdiction(AHJ). This claim contradicts all standards, that professional Fire Alarm Installation Companies MUST abide by. When it comes to Fire Alarm Systems, there is very little room that an Alarm Installation Company can deviate from the required Codes. NFPA Standard 72, "The National Fire Alarm Code" 2007 edition, section 8.2.1 Alarm Signal Disposition, states "...all fire alarm signals received by a supervising station shall immediately be retransmitted to the public fire service communications center." (bold added). This means that when a Central Station receives a fire alarm signal they must immediately notify the local Fire Department. This signal cannot be delayed by verifying at the premises. There have been instances where the wrong FD is notified for the wrong address. This is an issue with the Installation/Service Company not verifying the correct information when the Monitoring Information is submitted to the Central Station. In this Standard there is no definition of a Central Station. The terminology for a "Central Station" is Supervising Station, as noted in the above section. As for the incident from the OP, this is a case where the installation company apparently did not follow this standard and did not provide for the proper amount of notification devices. I strongly recommend that you provide the facts for your claim to the AHJ(Fire Inspector, Fire Marshal, Fire Chief, etc.) of this jurisdiction, so that this installation/service company can be held responsible for its' actions (or in this case inaction). If your claim (slow dispatch) repeats itself with another AFA that is actually activated for a fire, there could be tragic consequences. Myself, and the other professional Security Installation Companies of this industry, spend alot of time training, studying codes, and installing Systems so that they function correctly and limit false activations. I can direct you to your local and State Alarm Associations that can assist you (or I will assist you myself) in getting this issue addressed. Steve Pendzuk Total Protection Unlimited Inc. 21. As Bnechis alluded to the incident in Charleston, IMO booster lines are MURPHY'S LAW waiting to happen on any front line apparatus. If it is not there, there is no chance that another Charleston can happen. If it is there, eventually it will be used for the WRONG PURPOSE at the WRONG TIME. DITCH IT NOW!!!!!
  22. DITCH IT!!! With the increasing adoption of trashlines (preconnected 1 3/4" hose upto 100' in length), there is absolutely no reason for this antique piece of equipment on modern state of the art firefighting apparatus. It is like keeping 1 1/2" hose instead of upgrading to the more efficient 1 3/4" hose because "it is what what we have always used". As for the comments (here and elsewhere) that the booster line is for certain limited manpower situations, I can not see the big difference (using only a single Firefighter) between having to place a short 1 3/4" trashline in a tray, and having to press a rewind button while simultaneously trying to feed the booster hose on the reel without it rewinding in a mess. Most of the time if there is any length of booster line out it is easier to repack with two people. The ony reason to keep it is found in the saying "The voluteer fire service, 200 years of tradition, unimpeded by progress".
  23. As this thread is about interesting stuff, I found this site with videos about firefighting knots, which I was reviewing for an in house drill I am planning. Another site with good reference for ropes and knots is Tempe FD Policy & Procedures.
  24. From NYFD.com, here is a list of "every unit in FDNY that ever was".
  25. This topic has been discussed at the Westchester County Trunked System thread. You will find all of the information you are looking for in these two threads. Let me know how it goes. This thread also has information on the Westchester County Trunked System.
