Here's a link to picture of it from LFD171's website.

Goose You are correct that NYC has a lot of unused frequencies, but check out my Westchester Frequencies thread. There are a lot of Westchester agencies that, because they have their own frequency, they are tying up that freq and adjacent freq's from being used within a designated radius of that license.

From Firehouse.com, White Plains FD has been awarded $149,024 from the Assistance to Firefighter Grants Round 40 for the Operations and Safety catagory. Congtrats WPFD!

585 got it essentially right. The only clarification is the volunteer dispatchers are on duty from approximately 1900-2200 weekdays (not at all other times), otherwise he hit the nail on the head.

No, these are the ones with the entrance off of Wolden Road. The one we went to is directly West of this, to the left of the left building in the picture.

I also took some shots of the lightning strikes. Didn't get pics of any strikes, but check out the following pics, how the strikes lit up the apartment complex across the street from my house. This was my first try at taking pics of lightning. I just hand held the camera steady on the windowsill and manually shot the pics. This picture shows how it normally looks at night, although there is a strike in the distance. This picture is lit up from a strike in the distance, unknown how far, I was really just try to snap pics, and not concerned about anything else at the time. This last one was actually taken in between the first and second, but for effect I placed it last to show how bright a nearby strike lit the area. All pictures were taken between approximately 8:55P and 9:10P when we got toned out for a reported lightning strike in the complex in the pictures. I had to drive right past this complex to go get the Engine. We were returned approximately 9:30P.

Both last night 8/07, and tonight I heard WCPD Air 2 & Air 3 utilizing Fireground 4 for training purposes. Last night I heard them mention Post 28 (if I recall correctly George's Island Park). I also saw them, along with WCPD Marine 4, heading Southbound on the Hudson around 1930. Tonight I heard them mention the Taconic and to head toward the Dam. I also heard mention of "Chris" possibly Chris192?? Just an FYI for all IC's that these units have these frequencies should we need to utilize these resources.

Chris, I agree with your post, but this is Westchester, and everybody gets it the way they want, and the heck with the way everyone else does it.

According to the Westchester DES website, the classifications are based on the NFPA 1901 classifications. Accordingly Quints are not a valid classification in this standard.

While researching this decision, I found a link to the Courts' decision. It can be found here. crcocr1, according to this link the case was decided in the Supreme Court, Appealate Division, Fourth Department.

Definately an eye-opening case, and I hope that Agencies take this seriously and get their act together, if they haven't already!

Nice pics Seth. I especially like the use of the folding ladder to access the turntable of L74.

So called "experts" will write a report to say whatever you pay them to say. This is not unique to the situation at hand. "Experts" get paid to testify in court, make appearances on the television "news" shows, and wherever else you need support for your cause. If the "expert" were to truly write an objective report, they might even suggest a "program apparatus" from one of the apparatus manufacturer's. In the July 2009 issue of Firehouse Magazine there is an advertisement for a "program apparatus (custom 6 person cab, 1250GPM, 1000 gallon tank) for $230,000. Imagine getting two Engines for the cost of one. That is what a "program apparatus" could do. No wonder we pay near the top in taxes in this area. As FireCapt stated, whatever the FD wants, it gets. This is not unique just to this FD, it goes on throughout the area. Just look at all the "Bells & Whistles" on any new apparatus that is delivered around here, and state that the "Bells & Whistles" ARE neccessary, and they were looked at with "a fine tooth comb".

Not to start a controversy, but this is Westchester, where every Company has to have everything every other Company has, AND it has to be better than everybody else. It most probably is the Engine for that price.

According to LFD171's website it looks like this is for E80, Riverside Hose Co. Both E80 and L37 are listed as 1988 E-One's.

I had heard generically, not specific to Scarsdale, that when designing a Fire Station it is safer to have apparatus enter traffic on a side street then merge into a highway from the side street, rather than entering directly onto a highway, or major roadway, which with it's increased traffic flow would be more difficult and dangerous for apparatus to enter into. So with this idea, Scarsdale is doing the right thing.

Has anyone gone to past New England Association of Fire Chiefs Conference and Expositions in previous years, and is it worth the trip? This is the one in West Springfield, MA. Looking at last years exhibitors list it looks like there is an extensive array of firefighting equipment and apparatus on display.

I went there two years ago with my Wife while touring NYC on our anniversary. It was not all that I had expected, but there are alot of historical items on display. There are brochures about the Volunteer Company's (pre-Career) attending and hosting parades, along with other historical items from the Volunteer era. There is an awesome room dedicated to 9/11. A very solemn place. Here are some pictures of a silver serving tray representing the Volunteer Company's of the era. The first picture is of the plaque that is attached to the display of this tray. Each goblet stem is a Fire Chief with a trumpet. Note the intricate detailing on the "helmet" ladle above, and a closer view below. Note the hoses attached to the fire hydrants (plugs). This last picture is not at the Museum, but we walked by here and I had to take the picture.

Here are the pictures of Old Saybrook, CT's new Pierce Rescue. This rig has a load of stuff on it and it looks to be laid out very well. Pictures are clockwise from Drivers side around to Officers side. Note two hydraulic tools in front bumper Hand tools on slide-out rack. Staircase slides up, note the track on the side up top of the stairs where it slides into. Also there is a winch in the rear compartment under the air bottle AND oxygen bottle rack, and a Little Giant ladder along right side of rear the compartment. Looking toward the front. The tube to the left in the rear compartment looks to be a dispenser for speedy dry stored up top. I like the way the broom heads are stored right next to the handles. This last picture is from Wallingford's Engine 2, note the cutout for the grab portion of the rollup door handle. This is neat, you don't need to manuever under the lip to grab the bar because the lip is cut out. Simple idea, why didn't I think of that??

Here are some shots of Cheshire, CT E6 Pierce. The above picture shows the hosebed cover designed with chevrons on it. Interesting placement of the new required chevrons, even though the ones on the back of the cab are not NFPA required. I still have some pictures of Old Saybrooks Rescue I will post as soon as time allows.

In post #64, E329, is that a ladder up in the hose bed?

When did Chappaqua FD take delivery of their new Pierce, E144 (post #15)? I had heard they were getting it, but had not heard anything about it being delivered, let alone placed in service.

While leaving the show on Saturday I came across this in the parking lot and knew that I had to post this for all the RotoRay fanatics out there. It looks like this is a LED version of it. I will be posting more pictures from the show this weekend. FYI - this is my first picture post, and I will be posting more in the future now that I know how to.
