The Fireboat John J. Harvey is offering Free boat rides this coming Saturday, June 12, 2010 from the Yonkers Pier. This ride is offered in conjunction with The Beczak Environmental Education Center. The author of "My River Chronicles: Rediscovering America on the Hudson" Jessica DuLong will be at the Center for a presentation about this book which details her experiences as the Engineer of the John J. Harvey. According to this website, the book is about how she went from a dot-com desk job to the job on the Harvey, where she and the rest of the crew pumped while the boat was at the World Trade Center on 9/11/01. According to the schedule posted, the Fireboat will be on display from 12P - 5P, with rides at 5P & 6P. Reservations for the rides are required and can be found here. I have already signed up for the 5P ride, definately sounds interesting. From what is posted they state they will be pumping water and to be prepared to get wet.

I have not been on the Harvey, or even to the Yonkers Pier (although I have seen it while riding the MetroNorth down to NYC). Looking at the Yonkers Pier on Wikimapia.org it looks like there is parking in the area. Maybe one of our Yonkers members can comment on the parking. As for handicap accessible, I looked around Fireboat.org and could not find anything about the handicap accessibility of the boat. Try sending them an email at trips@Fireboat.org for more info (this is the only way I found to contact them at the site). NOTE: This is late breaking news, The Harvey is offering a FREE trip Tuesday 6/8/10 from NYC Pier 66 (the Harvey's home pier) to Kingston and Poughkeepsie/Rhinecliff for connections to MetroNorth back to NYC. You must be at Pier 66 by 8AM and they expect to be at Poughkeepsie around 4PM and Kingston/Rhinebeck around 6PM. If you go the calendar says to bring food and drink. Anyone along the Hudson tomorrow may be able to catch a shot of this boat.

I just took a look at the bid spec, well thought out (and open). Just a couple of comments on it. This is the first time I have seen the two "brow" lights speced out for flash operation in response mode. No concern here, just the first time I have heard of this. Second, section 7.1 specs a Cummins engine, while section 18.1.19 requires a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty on the Detroit Diesel engine . I've been on two apparatus committees and read word for word both specs, just to know what we were getting. Again no comment here, just pointing out what I skimmed over. Looks good though. Best of luck with it.

Looking at the updated pictures at FerraraFire.com they have SQ 15 on the roof. Anyone know if this apparatus will be designated an Engine or a Squad?
-
Until I looked at some pictures of previous YFD Engines, I did not realize that some previous Engines(ALF SQ11 & HME/Smeal's among others) had Mattydale (crosslay) preconnects like the new E309 & SQ11 have. Interesting. Also, it looks like all three apparatus pictured above have folding light towers. Nice.

Also, Thursday night I heard TT Dispatch notify all Department members that the new Utility 61 is now in service. According to the above link the Village purchased a used 1996 Volvo Rescue with a cascade system on it.
-
No we don't, the Village Parks Dept. does that with a pickup truck. This was a decision of the Apparatus Committee, of which I was one vote, and did not agree with. BUT, I do have a picture of a small NJ Career FD that waters the planters along the main street in town with a five gallon bucket fed from the trash line discharge on the front bumper of their Tower Ladder

I just cam across this site Firenews.org and it has a whole lit of info and pictures of probably all New England FD's. Check it out!

As PCFD58 notes, there are other less expensive brands that will do the same thing. We have on order a KME with 10K Generator, built in foam system, and a booster reel for less than $535K.

The member pays full price. The Company I belong to can set up a payment plan where the member can pay the cost off over time. ALSO upon being voted into the Company the member MUST purchase a uniform within 90 days. Members can also be subject to expulsion if they fail to purchase a uniform.

From The Journal News 5/10/10 Legal Section "Sealed proposals for the furnishing and delivering one (1) HEAVY RESCUE Fire Apparatus...until 11:00 AM June 9, 2010, at which time and place the proposals will be publicly opened and read." & From The Journal News 5/10/10 Legal Section "Sealed proposals for the furnishing and delivering one (1) Pumper Fire Apparatus...until 11:00 AM June 9, 2010, at which time and place the proposals will be publicly opened and read."

First, as a previous member of a Company with a Lime Yellow apparatus, FDNY, along with other FD's, had Lime YELLOW apparatus. Some FD's (such as Verplanck still have Lime GREEN) apparatus. With that said, Joe Pinto has some pictures of FDNY Lime Yellow apparatus at EMTBravo.com. This is a good start for you. According to this thread at Firehouse.com there was also a Lime Yellow American LaFrance Engine.

From FireGrantsSupport.com, Goldens Bridge FD has been awarded $120,333 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program Round 14 (5/7/10) from the Operations and Safety Catagory for Equipment. Congrats GBFD!
-
From FireGrantSupport.com the Mount Vernon Fire Department has been awarded $191,392 from round 13 (April 30, 2010) of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program (Operations and Safety catagory) towards the purchase of $239,240 for Personel Protective Equipment. Congrats FDMV.

There are ways to bid a specific brand. One brand we were looking into, their bid package read something like "the successful bidder shall have sold apparatus to a minimum of six FD's serving a population of 250,000 or more". Another brand specified that the full apparatus shall be constructed of stainless steel (only one brand I know of makes their cab out of S/S). I am sure that other brands have their specific wording for their bid packages. All the sales reps know this and they can tell within looking at the first few pages of the bid specs which brand the FD wants.

Chief, Have you added the second custom table for the South Zone? See Custom Tables at RadioReference.com. The second table will allow your scanner to track the 470.2000MHZ freq which seems to be the new "primary" freq used for the South Zone. If you only have the table with 476.0, your scanner will not be able to track the new 470.2000MHz freq. Hope this helps.

While at the KME plant last Friday Eastchester's new E29 was in the Delivery garage and I had to get pic's of it. Check out the back step with the "third stop light" and trailer hitch.

Here is the listings for the TalkGroups of the Trunked System. Fire 16 would include Armonk FD (located on I-684@exit 3) and they are licensed for operations on 46.20MHz. If you are only hearing these FD's, you are likely hearing the Armonk Repeater.
-
Try checking out this thread Westchester FD Repeaters. The thread is old and West Harrison FD has changed it's freq (reflected in the thread) and I think Peekskill FD's repeater may have been taken down. Try monitoring these freq's to see if they are overpowering you. One of these repeater's may have changed, but why the signal would drift from 46.26MHz all the way down to 46.20MHz something seems out of whack. Is the signal received on all of your radios or just one or two. If so, it may be a reception problem on your end.
-
I highly doubt it. Just checked the FCC database, and Westchester County is not licensed for that freq. The closest freq to it is 46.22MHz for mobile use only KED281.

I just tried searching the forums because I thought I remember a post about Buchanan getting a SVI/Spartan Furion short (and I do mean short) wheelbase Rescue. Couldn't find anything. I believe the post was within the last six month,s and there was a schematic posted of it.
-
Just checked out Buchanan's Facebook page, production pic's of the Rescue body, but could not find the schematic.

Tim, those are neat. Note the phone numbers on the third page. Most are three digit phone numbers with Glenville (Grrenburgh Fire District(Tarrytown)) and Goldens Bridge having daytime and nightime phone numbers.

For those of you who may not be hearing the System utilizing the South Zone Towers, the two new frequencies mentioned in this thread, 470.2000Mhz & 478.3125Mhz are now in use for the South Zone. Today, these two freq's have been flip flopping as the primary and secondary freq's on this Zone. Previously, 476.0750Mhz seemed to be the primary freq used. So, if you have not programmed these you have probably not heard anything today. To receive the South Zone correctly you now MUST have two custom tables for the bank you have programmed the South Zone frequencies in to. The custom tables listed in RadioReference.com work correctly. With the addition of these two freq's, both zones now have five voice channels.
