  1. bump. This Memorial Seminar is this Saturday morning. Looks like an interesting topic, as always. I will be there.
  2. I was going to post almost the exact same scenario, I too could not back the rig into the Firehouse. The only difference was that I had to take the rig down one of the steepest hills in the Village (the street that the Firehouse is on), get all the way down, turn around, then with the OnSpots deployed get back up the hill past the FH, then let gravity back me into Quarters. Not a fun time. This is why we did not spec the automatic chains on our new rig.
  3. firecapt, I know exactly what you are saying, I was not trying to knock anyone, and YES I AGREE with you 1000%. I know that our training standards, and officer qualifications are desperately lacking. I am working on this problem right now at my Co. I will talk to you this upcoming Sat. AM. Steve
  4. Are you hinting that some FD's don't meet these criteria?
  5. Here is the direct link to the pic with the "R 5" on the front bumper FDNY Rescue. This unit looks to be the farthest along, whether it will be first delivered, the page does not say.
  6. I've been to this site several times over the years, but today I found an index of FDNY Operations Guidelines at FireTactics.com. There is definately some interesting information at this site. The link for FDNY Units appears to have been replaced by FDNY Units 2005? locations. This link shows FDNY EMS Units locations. The FDNY ICS Operations Guideline was found at IAFF.org. I also found the FDNY Organizational Chart at www.nyc.gov.
  7. Here is a map of all FDNY Station Locations.
  8. If you would like to try programming by computer, I have used FreeScan from ScanNow.org. It is freeware and is relatively easy to use.
  9. Try this Easier to read BCT15X Programming Manual.
  10. PinkFireTrucks.org is also an organization that supports Breast Cancer Awareness. You can check out some of the Fire Trucks they have acquired (and painted pink) at PinkRibbonNews. Check out this picture of two of their rigs and pink turnout gear.
  11. Interesting views of the new split cab rear mount Ladder for the FDNY at FerraraFire.com & FerraraFire.com In Production
  12. Wow, great pics!
  13. Congratulations to the following two Westchester FD's for awards from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants round 2 of 2010 (12/17/10): Buchanan FD - $17,100 from the Operations & Safety catagory for Equipment. Eastchester FD - $204,418 from the Operations & Safety catagory for Personal Protective Equipment.
  14. I attended the NYS Confined Space Training Class at the WCDES this week, and one thing I did not realize is that Fire Departments do not need to provide Confined Space Rescue Services. If an FD elects to provide these services, they need to provide their members with the appropriate training (basic first aid, CPR, practice making permit required rescues at least once every 12 months, etc.) AND ALL of the requirements of OSHA 1910.146 Permit Required Confined Spaces (see 1910.146(k) for the Rescue and Emergency Services section). If an FD elects not to provide this service, they need to know who is able to respond to provide this service in their coverage area. This FD must also advise their members that they are not trained to provide this service and are not to attempt this service. This FD's members should be provided with Confined Space Awareness training, which will provide their members with the information of what they can and cannot do at a Permit Required Confined Space. This Awareness training is provided in the Firefighter 1 curriculum, but it does not hurt for "Veteran" members (like myself) to attend this training as a refresher.
  15. Rob I can't make it, will be out of town.
  16. Congratulations!
  17. Millwood FD has a pending FCC license amendment for a new freq 45.8200MHz. Does anyone know if this is going to be used as a low band to trunked TalkGroup crossband repeater? The application shows that the base station for this frequency would be located at Station 2 on Rt. 134.
  18. The Millwood FD crossband (Fire 17/45.82Mhz) repeater is up and and running, I heard it for the first time this morning.
  19. Pocantic Hills Rescue 43 can be seen at LFD171's website.
  20. Yeah, I also thought that Eng 7 & Lad 7 were supposed to be used for training at WCDES AND for coverage on the Grasslands Reservation. Correct me if I am wrong. The last I saw (a couple weeks ago) both of these apparatus were in the Main DES Building Garage (not the Support Services or Operations Garages).
  21. Westchester County's Snorkels were: 1 - Bedford Hills....Young 2 - Verplanck........Young 3 - Mount Vernon...Hendrickson 4 - Scarsdale.........American LaFrance
  22. BVFD1054, It's relatively easy to post pictures. Below and to the left of where you type the text for your post it says "Attachments". Below this is a blank space and "Browse" next to this. Click on Browse to find the file in your computer. (Note: before selecting your file(s) always resize them to maximum 800 x 600) Once you have selected the file click on "Attach This File". You can then Browse to selct more pictures or go to "Add Reply". This will post your pics in the post. It just takes some getting used to. I spent quite awhile browsing and queing pictures (before posting) only to lose them when I went to preview. The more pictures you post the more confident you will be. Hope this helps. BVFD, try attaching the above pics to this thread to see how "easy" it is.
  23. We (OFD E99) supplied a handline supplying F 500 foam for overhaul. From what I saw after we arrived, there was not much remaining of the building with most of the roof and attic already burned through.
  24. I will wait for the Chief's reply and how he feels about the training.
  25. Go to this link at EMTBravo.net for a previous discussion on this topic. Click on the link in post #2 for the answer to your question. Chief, I hope that it will not be "kind of stupid" if something happens to one of your Firefighters because he/she was not trained sufficiently. I recently lost one of my friends because of this.
