I know of a department who has a 1993 KME Falcon and lets just say it wasn't the best "appatrapus" made. * 2 1000 gal tanks * 3 Altenators and still was underpowered * 2 rear ends * 3 pressure relief valves * ALL emergency warning lights had to be replaced * 2 transmissions * pump housing corroded away * door mechanisms constantly breaking as well as windows * drive shaft unbalanced * fly by night generator where parts had to be shipped from JAPAN direct * numerous air leaks * engine bearings * horrible front end shimmy * undersized brakes * leaf springs WAY underrated (4 times) But they gave us a box of free hats LMAO

Does anyone have info on the bank robbery that just occurred at thw Wachovia Bank on Rt9 & Rt9D

I think a rubber mount would be the best way for these. Wouldn't it would help reduce vibrations and be able to give a better or more "accurate" view of whats going to hit you if you get out? Also if it came in contact with a low hanging object it would just have to bend slightly to allow the object to pass by. The mirror appears to be smaller than normal so the MPO is still able to see around it thus if anything is going to catch the small mirror I would tend to believe that it would smack the hell out of the one on the driver's door first creating the natural reaction to turn AWAY from the BOOM....LOL

While I was sitting next to 11-5-1 during the parade I noticed a "FDNY Patch" sticker and "6 Truck" lettering, was this a former FDNY piece?
-
Thankfully the skies held tight until the parade was over !!! I think the PCSO deputy who dumped his bike in front of the firehouse wished it was rained out. Thankfully he wasn't hurt and the bike wasn't damaged! I thought this parade used to be bigger and on a Saturday ?
-
Is there any rumor of the parade being cancelled due to the predicted storms coming through that area ?

The funny thing about mutual aid is.. "you have to be in it.... to get it"! If you are dispatched for a M/A run you go. UNLESS your department is currently operating at something or you have a manpower shortage BECAUSE OF THE CURRENT INCIDENT, not normal day to day issues then the "Officer" advises dispatch of that and SHOULD tell dispatch "please BACKFILL our assignment"! If an officer is concerned that while they are covering a M/A assignment something will take place in his/her own jurisdiction then have all members put on standby in your home quarters. If its a career department then get authorization to call in some members and put another piece in service. This all has to be weighed out by the officer, Career, as to wether or not the incoming crews will arrive before the crisis is mitigated VS. have another unit BACKFILL until its cleared. We will always be faced with that "what if" scenario, so ya know what, plan around it ........ is it that hard ? Obviously it must be. Why is it that the FF"s are posting the gripes on this BS and not the CHIEFS ...obviously they are one step ahead of the mongers and are sound with the decisions that they make. If your not happy with the way the mutual aid is operating in your department file a union grieveance on behalf of the citizens and bring it to the city council you'll see a change I am sure! Better yet Invite the Chief of Department to your quarters over coffee and express your concerns on how "you" think it should be run. Wheres the "Kid from Brooklyn" when ya need him???? No more ranting from me on this issue, I think the horse was beat far enough in the ground prior to the thread starting.

BACK FILLING Is this a new term or procedure?

I think if you use a particular lighting fixture at about 30 degrees it will illuminate the intersection or area that you are turning into quite well ! These are ones that I know of that have QUITE well !!! http://romboutfire.com/6245.jpg

I couldn't imagine what fuel prices would rise to if we did have another natural disaster, might see $4.25 gal.......... I think it would be time to break out with the old schwinn and park the Harley too.

I've seen various types of Emergency Vehicle literally blow through intersectons with NO due regard for the other vehicles. Which, had they struck another vehicle and a good lawyer got eyewitness reports.... they'd be sued. So it doesn't matter if your a Chief or FF it all comes down to training and experienced driving. I HOPE that prior to a state introducing a law like this, they would also make it mandatory for the first responders to go through a EVOC course and acknowledge the possible legal actions should an AA occur. We all know that there is a huge decline in the volunteerism and more so during normal business hours. Which could probably be the big push for NJ to enact this. I think there could be some resistance from Fire Districts and their underwriters across New York due to added liability. Instead of having 6 possibile liabilites enroute to a MVA (3 Chiefs 1 Eng 1 Res and 1 Amb) to a call you now have 21 from responding FF's. We can beat this dead horse to dust....what it boils down to is that if you want to make sure you get to the scene of the incident and get the first line or hurst tool out, live in the firehouse 24/7. Other wise when you use your blue light realize that it is just a "COURTESY LIGHT", no more than 50w and must be visible for 360 degrees according to NYS V&T Law.. It doesn't give anyone the right to do Mach 3 or disobey any traffic laws. Once in a great while you'll find someone attentive and will slow down to allow you to pass by. Other than that when you plug in the dash light or light up that christmas tree on top of your trucks, be prepared to curse and clench the steering wheel cause the person in front of you is bee bopping to some good tunes and doesn't see you.........

I had read someplace in the past month and confirmed it, that NJ had just changed its Blue Light laws for their Firefighters. They are now ALLOWED to: - Proceed through ( WITH CAUTION) steady RED lights / intersections - Stops signs, with caution as well - Have the right of way to other motorists. (all other civilian traffic MUST yeild) How many light years behind do you think NYS will be ?????

Think ya need to go back up and re read your post there skippy

I know they have glass mounts for mobile radios which rx & tx decent, how do they compare to glass mount scanner antennas ?

I have been asked by several people if any fire departments had a Mothers Day Pancake Breakfast this weekend, if anyone has information please post. (I know most of the wives would prefer to be FAR away from the firehouse on "their" day but the questions arouse from some senior citizens looking to go out at a decent price and support the community at the same time)

Lets see ....burning building everyone is running out and Whoooa here comes a firetruck with firefighters and THEY run in..........Hmmm who's nuts ????????? LOL I think we all are in our worst way
-
Great newspaper articles......... Speedy recovery to the injured FF's
-
I was just looking on Firehouse.com and saw that the majority of the grants were for Firefighter Operations & Safety.......... what is the prerequisites for this section just out of curiosity ?
-
Couldn't have said it better myself..............Can't wait for the rain to stop so I can hit the pavement........ Lets see who the first "yahoo" is that attempts to put a blue light ona bike this year
-
Hmmm checked the website Tuesday @12mid nothing, 9am Wednesday they were "on the line". Lets hope for a "quicker" delivery date !!
-
Congrats on supplying the Emergency Service Community with some of the best and up to date incident information !! As well as the various forums that are up and available from good food to buy/selling stuff.
-
I agree with their expectations and with your reply. As a Chief or IC I would want whatever piece covering to have a full crew in case there is a change in assignments. How many times have we gone to cover another station and got moved up to the scene while enroute ?
-
Advantage cabs, who knows when they'll start construction ??
