Heres a new twist on things.........Could the reason for duplication of services could be some smart Chiefs and Commissioners / Board Members being responsible for "their" piece of the pie without always having to rely on PDQ Fire Dept ( Thank you LAW PROFESSION that we have worry about lawsuits). Then deal with the never ending "What ifs' their "specialized" piece of equipment is tied up or O.O.S.? Until there is a County Wide Fire Dept & MASTER PLAN for Emergency Services, there will always be duplication of services. Sometimes having that piece of "specialized" equipment isn't such a bad thing when you have to extricate numerous people from a vehicle or need to make multiple rescues from a multi story building. As long as the Fire Districts spend their money wisely there should be no questions. The question the departments need to ask is "Do we need a parade truck or a "Quality" work truck" ? I see more and more each time a department buys a truck they are leaning more to latter of the two. Are they bigger yes, why, the concept of more tools in one toolbox with less manpower is a wiser decision. FALLON-CHURCHVILLE Nev........Google them and check out their dept and ratings.

Yes it allows to open the roads up quicker with less man power. I have seen on several vehicles where brackets were fabricated and attached with vise grips so they can operate driver alone. Along with pushing back the snowbanks it also allows the highway dept "shelf" the banks when more snow is predicted "HOPEFULLY" eliminating the narrow road syndrome.

Just about every post that is mentioned here deals with the aspect of commanding incidents. I haven't seen one comment or question about a 21yr olds tackling the administrative side ie; training, policies & SOG's, FF physicals, PPE purchasing/maintenance, apparatus reserve funds & committes, apparatus maintenance, station maintenance, projected community growth, LEPC meetings these are just a few to mention. Not knowing anything about this department where this incident took place, I would hope that they have one hell of a mentor program for the junior officers to advance!

The town board passed a law requiring any ambulance company that receives a request for emergency service to notify the Dutchess County 911 dispatcher before sending out an ambulance. The proposed legislation grew out of an incident when two ambulance services were called for an injured party. One was called directly; the other was dispatched through 911. This law will eliminate confusion," Ruggiero said, and ensure the proper level of care is sent for the emergency. "If you dial 911, they know where the call is coming from and dispatch what is necessary," he said Having the ambulance and crew dispatched by 911 also provides data about the call, including response times, he said This is a progressive step forward in the EMS industry. It will keep EMS agency on their toes by providing accurate coverage which OTHERS haven't done in the past. Their response times will be documented through one central place, DC911, and that will probably be the stats that they go by rather than the EMS agency. Several times in the past OTHER agencies use "their" times so they can be within the "5 Minute" response contract. They wait til DC911 dispatches then dispatch their unit ( saves a minute or two) then instructs their unit to call on scene with them PRIOR to DC911 and theres another minute so now they fall within the contract response times. If you ever get a response sheet from a commercial agency they will ALMOST always never show the "seconds" column where as DC911 will and when comparing run sheets you see the time difference! Way to go Wappingers !!!!!!!!!!!!!

ALEX MANCONE is CHIEF...................????????????????????????????????????

When a department is assigned that number it "usually" has no direct affiliation with NYSP other than being dispatched by them. NYSP does not staff the vehicles, the jurisdiction that the number is assigned to is responsible for that. Any number of personnel in this department, what they are responsible for covering or who heads it up ? Isn't SP Brewster in that area ??? VERY surprised that a "new" local agency was established in this day and age when NYSP & PCSO have a large presence there.

The firefighter stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you firefighter, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The firefighter squared his shoulders and said," No, Lord, I guess I ain't Because those of us who fight fire, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough, And sometimes I've been violent, Because the streets are awfully tough But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep, And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear, And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here They never wanted me around Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand, I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand. "There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod As the firefighter waited quietly, For the judgment of his God, "Step forward now you firefighter, You've borne your burdens well, Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell." They charged the suspect with first-degree sexual assault, which means he allegedly forced the victim to have intercourse, police said. Sorry isn't this considered RAPE? If the guy did it, then let him suffer the consequences. Many occasions when the young do something like this and the parental units find out, they step in and as the "legal guardians" they pursue the charges. Now my personal opinion on the court system.... If somebody makes a serious accusation as this and the District Attorneys find that due to lack of evidence or the Plantiff changes their story then they (Plantiff) should be responsible for ALL of the financial burdens invovled in processing the case !!! I think this would stop half the BS that is in the courts today!

Stay away from the I836, this unit is designed for the business class who dont sweat, work in the rain or enter dusty enviroments. Lacks camera and has horrible audio. In Dutchess Co NEXTEL sucks.....hello VERIZON

OK here's my rant A chief isn't in charge until he (or she) assumes command and identifies himself on the fire ground as the IC. He or She doesn't a**/U/ME command it is relinquished or transferred. As for the multiple units operating and not knowing where the command is, thats just asinine. You mean to tell me that if there is a M/A call NONE of the responding units will know or recognize any fellow firefighters. Where is this M/A coming from Angolia? Since day 1 in school they taught you " If you are not sure ....ASK QUESTIONS!" So when you get to the call the first few guys you see "Hey who's running the show and where are they located?" WOW and this is almost year 2007

Out of all of them listed I would highly reccomend Goosetown. They did a install in a vehicle for us and it was exactly what we asked for.....Metrocom was like the Hertz commercial "Not Exactly", still waiting for them to come up and do some reprogramming after 4 months......

What really sucks about NEXTEL is that ANY changes you make to your service it AUTOMATICALLY locks you in for another 2 yrs !
