New Rochelle should be commened for there realistic and progressive thinking, the biggest problem with these jobs is just getting to the floor without your nozzle team being wipe out by the climb. ( up the stairway ). Add searches , venting a real problem with high rise , and accountabilty. I noticed Mount Vernon was not mentioned which makes sense since were going backwards with a " when and if it happens attitude " . 2006 and a 1960's attitude: New Rochelle is becoming a department that is growing with there infrastructure and the needs of there members. Safety. I wish them well.

Scott how are ya?? I met you a couple a times when you came up so I know who you are. More important your dad is a first class ( old school ) firefighter and i was lucky enough to be a probie working for him some time ago. Todays guys dont understand the bottom line is in the building. Thanks for dropping a line and yes 1 truck in service for 2 days and today we caught a job ( small ) on Wildwood. Attic job. New Rochelle in sta 3 before 4 th. engine on scene. I dont understand how long other cities will keep this cover for Mt. Vernon up but lucky them.

My last post ( I think I said that before ) I posted this topic to generate positive feedback from you guys because your the only ones that would understand. I beleave its time to contact Local-107 and let them know what you think, as for some of the negative post its not helping anybody but only shows how bad this problem is. All of you have shown that you guys are great and I thank you for standing up and discussing honestly how you feel on this matter. I hope that in the furture I thank you again for helping local 107 grow and operate in a safe manner. Sincerly, ( soon to be transfered ) Jloftus

This will be my last post ( MAYBE) I was 1st. Vice-President for ten months and worked on this issue and others and here's the deal Meeting with Senator Klien 34th. district, I gave him a power point presentation regarding manpower, and Chief Henry Campbell's proposed manning from 1993 to 2000, if followed the Mt. Vernon fire dept. today would have 31 ff and officers working per tour. At my second call to the Senator I was told by him that our current Chief says there is no problem............. Mailed Senator Shummer on this problem and the lack of equipment. No response. And for the media YOUR GONNA LOVE THIS Until someone dies ( firefighter or civilian ) this topic is not gonna make news in todays world ( IRAQ, GAS SHORTAGE, KATRINA ETC.) So where do you go??? Thats why the post so I can get other communities to talk about this situation that does impact them and maybe here lies the answer. Thanks for all the post and I hope you tell some one who cares or matters.

its not about refuseing MA, never even thought of it , its about the people we serve, MA doesnt protect the working crews, we know how to look out for each other. Where we need help is right from the start, when the bell rings, MA is just the result from a bad start.
-
Bye the way I'd like to thank EMTBRAVO for giving us this site so this and other issues can be heard and discussed by fellow brothers. Thank You
-
I dont no why ff402 is so annoyed unless he's a boss?? I didnt put this out there to beat up old issue's. only for some feed back from others who have to provide there citys as well as Mt. Vernon with fire protection. I do agree the union President needs to be vocal on this issue but I was trying to hear what other Departments think on this matter. The bottom line here is only Yonkers provides there city with 1710 standards and they were doing it before the standard came out, this is about whats right and maybe someone here will hit upon something that makes sense. I still have not heard any one address the Tower Ladder with no escape ladder.
-
Hey first I'm on the job in Mount Vernon and it bothers me that we cant handle a kitchen fire without MA. Second the point of this post was to generate talk so maybe if enough people understand whats going on and how this issue is being addressed or lack of, then maybe outside towns and cities will address the department. Every time I see a rig from out of town it hurts. I and most on the job know that MA units are doing the right thing but the point of it, is the city really providing a service to the people of Mt. Vernon. Talking to managment is not the answer unless outside sources make enough noise. By the way I have not heard any body on this site bash us. We are still the best around even with the noumbers against us. Thanks for the thoughts

I have been a Mount Vernon FF for 15 years now and MA has alsways been an onging topic, but cant anyone see that recent times have shown that not only Mount Vernon abuses MA but considers it a given by other communties and responds slowly to equipment brake downs because of the fact that other cities will respond. As of today 3-5 engine companys in service 2-3 ladder companies in service 1-Brand new engine down 1-first line ladder ( down for 8 months ) 16-18 FF's on the line I know this topic has been run over but how long is New Rochelle gonna be part of a Mount Vernon assingment. MA- Eastchester New Rochelle Greenville Fairveiw Pelham Pelham Manor Yonkers FDNY White Plains Tell me another city that uses this many communities on a regualr bases. And last the only Tower Ladder in the state with no escape ladder for the guys safety.
-
Yes Yonkers does expect dept's to show up with what they show up with. Also yonkers is the only Dept. that is complying with 1710 all the rest are rolling the dice like they alsways do.

Hey hudson if your out there T-1 in service: went out last night on our new tower, felt like I was time warped: went from a 1979 to a 2005 not bad since it got here the 2nd. week of July its only Jan. 26 2006 and now its in service. Still no escape ladder, only one in New York that doesnt have one I guess I'll take flying lessons

one of ours!!!!! aka: fab new
-
It really shouldn't matter: 1st. they are a anti-union paper, second the only one that you guys mean anythng too is the jobs your at. so shake it off, your gonna see this is the way it is on this job, we get it done and move on. Good luck guy's.
-
Na, New Rochelle wouldnt no what to do.
-
The deal is our brand NEWtower does not operate.( Love the City) Ladder 2 which I could put the stick in your back pocket is sitting there because a Hyd. seal is broken and the city doesnt want to pay for it. Like its gonna fix it self. Tell a friend. and if your a border city tell whos running your town.

Thanks for looking out, but without people there just another place for water to pass. engine 3 and 4 are getting the new ones. Opps did I say that out loud.
