God I love a happy ending.

Well let me throw my 2 cents in: I've been very quiet on this subject for a number of reasons, Its always been , for god knows how long that one uses what ever juice he has when one gets close to promotion. Some how somebody always is skipped, thats a fact. Today its seems that ALL have forgotten that what is at stake here is this one person being resposible for any number of firefighters and thier orders impacting those firefighters. I dont care if a black or white Lt. or any color you choose is my boss. All that matters is this person can be trusted to protect us when where working, and make common sense decissions that can a have serious impact on if I get home that day. Jody has devoted a good part of his life to this job just like most of us and deserves a chance and he earned that chance by taking a test and scoring better then others. Does that make him the best pick?? Here's where real leadership comes in: Jody went by all the rules to put him self in a posiotion to be picked for promotion: but now we come to the part of the process that no one has full control on, If our department leaders go by a persons track record, his ability to lead and be trusted to perform his job to department standards then JODY was right for the job. Instead our leadrship put outside political influence first and not was right for the job. This pattern is exactly what one day is going to get a bunch of us killed. Our morale is no doubt at a ALL time low and True leadership is hard to find where I work. My question is this ?? Who is going resolve this problem and how do we find a middle ground that All can agree on. Jody was told that this isnt personell, If this is bussiness then were headed for chapter 11, becasue NO bussiness thats successful puts incomptence in leadership. I support JC not because he's white, because there's no doubt in my mind he can have a positive impact on what I consider to be one of the hardest working ranks in our job. Ive learned more form Lt.s then any other position on this job, there the ones that have to put up with all my petty crying and get hammered from above becasue of it. Mount Vernon 5-Engines-2 FF 2-Trucks-3-FF 1-Rescue 1-FF 1-Battalion 1-FF Officers- 4-Lt 1-Capt 1- DC Officers jump depending on rig going out Have been only running 4-engines much of the time, city does not bring in OT Manning can be anywhere from 15-19 FF per tour.

You know ya gotta wonder " What Else"

Local 107 Mt. Vernon has received a grant from Gary Pretlow to gets these systems out to our members, now we have to donate them to the city for liabity reasons, and they have to provide the training. If this system is a intergrated one then what we have is not gonna cut it. Im sure when the training is provided the headline will read Mount Vernon providing a safety system to protect firefighters. If our union leadership did not go out and get us something we would not see this system for years. Example : Tower Ladder with NO escape ladder. As for costs on this system: NO city should use that excuse, outside bussiness has to deal with standards all the time and comply. Why are the city's always a day late and a dollar short.

I know this wont go over big for those PC firefighters , but Id gladly go back to hip boots again. We are so wraped that its hard to feel the enviorment around you, climbing is not easy, and that lack of freedom makes you work harder and you wind up using air quicker because of it. Just my thoughts,also I forgot, we dont have extra sets so steam burns can get ya to.

Everyone can understand the passion, No one can forget the deep sorrow. We do what we do, regarless of scale, one bedroom job, or that terrible day. The job those 343 and more did that day showed America's resolve, hate only goes so far, doing what we do says volumes of what we do. I know thats deep, but except for going to work and living our lives can we show those guttless cowards that we will NEVER except their mindless thinking. Scotty, that could be station 1 anyday now, no rig should suffer such a death.

Jody , this was a question that the dept of Justice is having a hard time working with. becasue of the vast amount of paper work thats involved a simple typing error gets it kicked back. Also since the Justice dept is the one making the final decession they dont have alot of people assigned for this task. The Atterney General is supposed to follow up on this matter and respond back to Congress. During his testimony he really did not have a clear thought on this matter.

:angry: Ive been very low key for awhile now because I'm sick of p---ing in the wind. Our work conditions are a product of our enviorment, as much as I dont want to admit it were second class, you can post all night long and I'll still see a huge hole in the ceiling, a 1976 tower, mold , rodents, and a department that repairs on the fly. Everyone out here has an answer and your all right, but we have a very long history of working with the least. I think the best answer is for New Rochelle, Fairview, Pelham, and everybody else tell Mt. Vernon were not coming. Yonkers -God Bless them said enough is enough, its not about giving us a break or worrying that we need your help, helping us would be for our union brothers to say enough is enough. It seems like the newest thing in any FD is 4 years old at least. People can get fire insurance and I beleave thats what the city thinks. Tomorrow I'll go back to a place any fire prevention officer would close. I'm sure this will be in the Law Dept , Monday , this is what they consider a priority.

I attended some of the Westchester 2000 meetings and after carefull thought all I could think of is the fighting over who's gonna be the big Chief. It seemed to me that no city in the end would be willing to go all the way with it. And Yonkers was there ONLY to help so they werent going with the program so I knew this is not going to fly. Sad but true the FD is always gonna be a red-headed step child. Were still using a Mutual Aid system set up in the 40's , most cant communicate. And we dont even drill together, but yet ask for instant help on a constant bases.

Glad I work in Mt. Vernon, Eastchester is dangerous. Great job and thanks from Local 107 for all the help.

Mount Vernon is thinking about holding a tournament in May at Hannas Resort in the catskills. We go there every year and have a great time and ya cant beat the price. Normally 1-nite unlimited golf on day one w/ cart 18- the second Full dinner and breakfest Last years price 145.00 a player If we can get a couple of Departments to send there best 4 players we can raise money for the burn center or another cause. Or just have a great time and tell lies. I know its early but if the response is there, then work will need to be done, like format, reservations of how many and such. Let me know what you think.
