I was going to start a thread on those mirrors on the new Pierce Velocity; they may look wierd, but do a good job of showing you whats infront of and around your vehicle at the same time. Heres an example (although not factory installed) of these mirrors on a tower ladder: http://www.fdnytrucks.com/images/otherstat...seveltTL735.jpg Come to think of it, the only other place I've seen these mirrors, are on the new Thomans Built Buses http://www.thomasbus.com/_img/home/beauty-3.jpg

There is a chance that Bedford Engine 108 responded to the fertilizer fire as they were stationed in the Bronx.

If you look at the picture showing the fleet or the video, the pump they use is HUMONGOUS, specially designed just for this system. Aparently its mounted in a container, and is carried to and from the scene on a tri axle freightliner roll off truck.

OH MY That is rediculous. Thank goodness they dont have to repack that by hand.

Recently I was surfing the web, and came across a page containing an article about a propane tanker explosion that occured on Interstate 287 in White Plains back in the mid 90's. Also, I found an article about at gasoline tanker truck explosion on central avenue in Yonkers in 1997. I was just wondering if anyone on this board knew more about either incident, or had a first hand account on scene. Both incidents aparently required "alot of mutual aid" and cleanup, and were so significant, that they changed laws with regards to the transport of those types of materials. Any information would be greatly appreciated. *On a side note, Yonkers Contracting Corp. is now starting the reconstruction project of the bridge and surrounding areas on 287

Put some hideaway strobes in the lights

Thats a bit much, dont you think? Must be distracting to drive, and what happens if it gets struck by lightning?

Recently I was on the ALF website and noticed that ALF is now making fire boats. Aparently they are now outfitting Boston Whalers with fire fighting equipment and supplies. Does anyone know how long this has been going on, and why they ventured into this market? Also, does anyone know if they will be distributed to the regular ALF apparatus dealers? What do you think? I dont know much about trains, but doesnt the MNCX marking mean it was used by Metro North Commuter Rail (which coincides with what lfdR1 was saying...). Thats a pretty cool find!

Bedford Fire Department is attending with Engine 108 and 109

As IzzyEngine4 mentioned before, you can use the hydraulic racks for other purposes. Our Engine 108 (the picture to your left) has two racks on either side carrying equipment such as hard suction, pike poles, tool boxes, and even an ice auger. They work great, and its even better to have more storage space on the truck by mounting the toolboxes on the rack.

The Bedford Village Fire Department is holding their annual parade tonight, and we are all hoping that the rain will hold off for the moment...we have over 20 departments in attendance with quite a few from over the border in CT as well. If your department is thinking of not showing up because of weather or otherwise, just remember, this is probably the shortest parade route in all of Westchester Hope to see you all there!

My bad when I said PPE I meant brush fire gear. By definition it can be any type of personal protective equipment including brush fire gear (which is why I didnt say bunker gear). I also didnt say full structural turn out and an air pack was needed. My initial reaction of the video (it wasnt supposed to be a big deal) was that the department in charge was not very professional, but hey, I could be wrong. I just put the video up to see what people thought about it, and if you do or do not have a problem with it, then so be it.

While I am a fan of the complete line up of Pierce fire apparatus, I have always had a problem with the "Quantum" line of equipment (no offense to any agency that operates one). Can someone explain to me why the trucks are designed and look the way they do? Also, I would like to know what everyone else thinks about them, look or otherwise. Heres a link to the Pierce website for Quantum chassis: http://www.piercemfg.com/apparatus/quantum.cfm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEoX6WkevwA&search=rescue%20 While surfing through "youtube" I came across this video of a response to a brush fire, and while it does take some time to load, right around the seven mintue mark you'll start to notice things go wrong...an engine responding with only a driver, and other firefighters at the scene putting out the fire without PPE, and you'll even see a woman try and put it out with her feet...Just thought I'd share this with everyone

Just a quick question- Is there a delay on scan60.com when you use it? (Kinda like the almost 2 mintue delay on scanct.com)

I currently subscribe to the I-page service for my department to get calls and information. These texts do have their pros and cons, as you may be able to get more information on the texts than what is said over the air (stating specific locations, what or who is involved, etc.), however I have noticed that they are a lot slower getting to me after the tones are put out, some times up to 20 or 30 seconds later. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem or noticed this, and also wondering who else uses this service.
