How many rigs around the area have front or bumper mounted pumps and panels? Are there advantages/disadvantages to this system? Does it matter where you place the pump on your truck? As far as i can think of, Mini Attack 9 of Bedford Hills, Engine 108 of Bedford and Engine 112 of Pound Ridge all have front mounted pumps. Any other trucks or info about this would be greatly appreciated!

I dont know about a set amount of years, but i know that Bedford, Buchanan and Somers among others have donated pieces of apparatus

Usually equipment can be sold to other departments if its still in good working order and up to spec, otherwise equipment can be sold to private collectors, or be refurbished and kept by the department as an antique or spare, or could be donated to the community for special purposes or donated to a museum like the firefighting museum in hudson, ny.

I second all the things ja3fd is saying...the public doesnt pay attention to the barricades or signs, and they think that they can just drive past them or move them. We actually got called by the police to help put the barricades back up on the main road because the public moved them aside and wouldnt stop driving under a tree with wires. The public really needs to use some sense here and think before they do.

It seemed that NYSEG finished up their jobs A LOT faster than ConEd, and I got fed up with ConEd's response, or lack therof, as for having no power for four days straight. Bedford worked with Hawthorne Bro.s and Savatree to clear the trees from the roadway and did a great job. AS for ConEd, they contractract Asplundh Tree Experts, and they too are stationed at the same down county location with ConEd. They were even pacing up and down my road sunday and completely IGNORED the tree i talked about in my first post. As of tomorrow, it will be a WEEK this tree has been down, and nothing has been done by ConEd, or Asplundh, surely i am not happy.

During these past two storms it seem up here in the northern parts NYSEG brought their "a" game getting to the problems faster then ConEd. However i think this is due to the yard location in Bedford Hills. ConEd, my utility service provider is based in the further south sections of the county, and did not work their way up here until saturday. Since then, ive seen only two trucks, and there is still a large tree down with wires across my road which has not been touched. It seems they've neglected the northern half of the county and are full with so. westchester and the parts of the city. I do agree something should be done asap to resolve this issue.

By the way, that means that the oldest ladder, or oldest piece of (in service) apparatus in the county is going out of service, right? Who will be the oldest then? As for engines, Goldens Bridge? and what about for ladder trucks?

Does anyone know of any designated serachlight rigs around the area, or ones that used to be in service? Although not designated as a spotlight truck, Mt. Kisco's old utility 16 or "light 16" is the closest thing i can think of to one of these pieces of apparatus.

It seems right around new years the fires started to pick up with the jobs in armonk and croton, even just recently the second alarm in katonah. Are we in a new trend?

Hello All, I'm Graham a.k.a. BedfordFire, a junior with the Bedford Fire Department. I am also can be referred to as the "fire geek" as well as the "apparatus buff". Joining the fire department was one of the best decisions ever!

Mt. Kisco's mutual engine company's website is www.mutualengine.com, and the Independant engine company's is www.ifco13.com...HOWEVER both of these webpages do not seem to be inservice or working right now...and as far as i know, the hooks dont have a website.

Although i dont know how useful they are... are there any trucks around the area that carry large hose reels to dispense large lengths of five inch or other diameter hose in the hosebed? We considered it when designing E108 as it does carry 5000ft of five inch...but it just wasnt practical
-
We'll have to see what happens...for our department back in 1992 we had somewhere around fourteen structure fires....as for now, the last structure fire we had was three years ago...
-
Speaking of five inch, over this past weekend i think i heard that a greenwich rig responded to a fire not realizing it dropped 1400' of five inch on the way to the scene....
-
Speaking of school, maybe im wrong, but i heard something about Ossining having a firefighting course as an elective in high school...anyone know anything about this?
-
Though an amazing truck with incredible pumping capabilities, our source truck engine 108 rarely gets called out. Also, our mini-attack 7 spends most of its time sitting in the back of the bay.

Sorry to go a little off topic here, but with your department's parade (if you have one), how many fire companies are usually invited or in attendance? And what about if you are having an anniversary parade, then how many companies are invited?

While i am an apparatus buff, it seems i dont know much about Sutphen manufactured apparatus. These trucks have distinct looks to them, and from what i see, are mainly used in ladder/tower ladder configurations. I was wondering if anyone had general info about the trucks or company, and how many of these rigs are in service around the area. Thanks- BedfordFire

I was driving down the road this morning and saw a large shiny red truck barreling around a turn...after double taking it appeared to be Katonah's new Pierce tanker 6...and boy does it look good. If anyone had more info or pics of this truck, that would be great. Congrats on your new truck guys!

I know this is an old topic from the past, but i had info on both the Banksville and Bedford Patrol companies. In banksville they ran a 1972 GMC/Reading that was retired in 1998: http://www.nefirenews.org/ne/BanksvilleFirePatrol.jpg In Bedford we ran Patrol 9 which was our 1975 GMC Oren but was then replaced in the early 90's by our 1993 Ford F-Series light duty rescue, at which point the truck was changed from Patrol 9 to Rescue 44. Although a little off topic, Bedford's 1965 Brush Truck retired in 1984 can be seen as engine 5 in service in West Haven, Conn: http://www.whfd.tsac.snet.net/photos/eng5-1.jpg Also, our department has just completed the restoration of our 1928 Seagrave Suburbanite Pumper which is now in storage at the collectors car garage in Bedford Hills, NY and will be used as an antique piece in parades

I know that Bedford uses the knox box program, and i believe Bedford Hills does as well

Are there any trucks in Westchester that are ex-FDNY? Any information would be appreciated
-
We carry one on Engine 110, and it certainly is my favortie ladder
-
Regarding Chappaqua's rig, is that the only Sutphen mini-tower in service around the area? Is that the only mini-tower in the county?
-
btw....was that the oldest tanker truck still in service in Westchester?
