  1. CONGRATS Officer Hess!!!!! He totally deserved this award. I am even more proud work so closely with them. He saved a lot of people that night. I miss working with Officer Hess, I continue to wish him a speedy recovery! "I AM PPD AND MPPD"
  2. EMSer, on Yesterday, 10:26 AM, said: "IMHO i know "paid" guys aren't always the cream of the crop, but volunteer EMS needs to go ASAP i have never met a well trained volunteer EMT that wasn't a career EMT. vollies don't care about EMS, they care about their agency's name, their agency's MONEY and their agancy's social cliques. I would be the first person to sign a petition to close down all vollie EMS in the county. With the vollies uniform allowances, their pensions, their $5,000-$10,000 parties and all of the other perks "vollies" get they're no longer actually volunteers!!! They're a form of under qualified cheap labor, I'd rather all that pissed away money go to a WELL TRAINED PAID CREW! Don't even get me started about vollies response times, it's so disgusting i can't even think about it anymore. I am a former vollie that no longer participates in any agengy because i can't stand what all VAC's and some vollie FD's have become in recent years edit...sorry for the rant, it's just tough to see what VAC's have become and it angers me to no end..." *I agree helicopper! *For the statement that was made saying vollies don't care about EMS, you are totally wrong! I am a "vollie" and care very much about EMS! Do I care about my agency - ABSOLUTELY!!! Do I care about our budget - YES! With that money we are able to serve our Community, free of charge I may add. Social cliques, yes every department, fire, ems ) paid or "vollie", have there groups of friends. Paid EMTS take the same NYS test as a "vollie". Based on that how many paid EMTS are only doing transports and not using skills? You may think its "cheap labor" to me its dedication! By the way, this topic was about skills, not bashing volunteers!
  3. This is horrible. My heart goes out to all of the rescue workers and the family involved.
  4. I rarely comment on this site anymore, but this post I felt I should. And I do not mean to get off the topic of the fire. It sounds and looks like a great job was done by all. PVAC has a rehab unit. We have all needed item for a fire standby. Our personnel are trained on how to use our equipment. We know how to take blood pressures. Any fire we have gone too, we have been on the same page with the Chief. Firefighters who have been inside come over to the rehab unit. They are given water and vitals are taken. If we as EMTs feel that Firefighter needs to sit out a little longer for rest, that’s what we do. It is far from an EMS Prison. We have never had a complaint from an FD we worked with. If anyone is interested in seeing our rehab, please PM and we can set something up. We are all about helping Firefighters, not working against them. Again great job, and stay safe!
  5. There is still time to RSVP! It is going to be a great day. Hope to see you there! email kelli_conley7612@yahoo.com

  8. Pleasantville VAC has a REHAB Unit. It is a truck that was donated to us by Hawthorne FD, the old MA-27. It is now 7605. On the truck we have, misting fans, tents, a heater for colder months, cooling chairs, water, Gatorade, extra oxygen, and basic equipment ( b/p cuffs, scopes), and a CO2 detector/pulse ox. We have been called to a few fires as REHAB. We are more than happy to help any department that needs us. So far we have received positive feed back. Thank you to all the departments who have shown us support! We look forward to working with everyone. Keep up all the good work, stay safe! Kelli Conley Pleasntville VAC 1st Lieutenant

  10. HI all, My husband is in the Army and is currently deployed. He has another 10 months to go. The guys in his unit were wondering if any Fire Departments / EMS / PDs would be willing to donate t-shirts to their unit, to wear on any down time they may have. Please message me if any department is willing to give to them. I greatly appreciate it! Thank you Kelli
  11. Thank you!!!
  12. This is very sad. An upate was posted in the NJ paper this am. Go to app.com - It stinks that the coaches are being blamed in some of the blogs on app.com. Hopefully they will found out what happened. I agree Stepjam.

  15. Being there as the ambulance rehab crew, I just wanted to commend the firefighters on a job well done. A scene with that many residents and firefighters and only one minor injury, it was nice to see everyone work together safely. Thanks to the firefighter that saved the cats :

  21. We have the misting fans. They are great! We are also doing a rehab unit. Another idea we were given was power bars or granola bars.
  22. That was very well done! It definately made me cry.
  23. Lately it seems we are missing equiptment such as backboards, headblocks, straps, etc. We are at the same hospitals so often, that our equiptment should still be there when we go back to get it. I was just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.
