  1. Death or injury notification perhaps. I hope not but a possibility.
  2. I really like the flag flying from the rear of the rigs. It looks very appropriate to me.
  3. You just never know. Its amazing what can happen to FD, PD, & EMS on even what appear to be routine calls.
  4. I think its worth a try. If it becomes a distraction from your original goal for this forum you can always delete it. I say that not really knowing how much time and effort it will take you to create or delete it.
  5. Families and friends of these soldiers, airmen, marines, and sailors should not have to put their fingers in their ears during their grief. I would not suggest to a grieving mother to leave the area while her son or daughter is laid to rest. There is a time and a place for everything.
  6. Good pics. I bet they didnt worry about when to stop ringing the bell on the way to a call back then.
  7. I agree. It comes down to the common sense and experience of the responders. Having the siren on at 3 a.m. in a small quiet neighborhood really doesnt accomplish much. In reference to shutting the lights off once on location where traffic IS NOT a concern; In my area it's up to the responder and they are often shut off. Also if an engine company responds along with EMS, emergency lights are shut off once on location, only four way flashers are used. Fire and EMS are separate career departments here.
  8. I guess I would proceed with caution after being waved through a red light by a flag person. Sometimes it appears they are not to sure whats going on themselves.
  9. Tragedy. Thank God the little one was in a child safety seat.
  10. Don't know any mail carriers that wouldnt heed the right of way to an emergency vehicle or stop for a school bus. Just some antiquated law. Theres alot of strange old laws on the books that would blow the common sense rule out the window these days.
  11. Looks like an Italian officer standing behind the car.
  12. I saw a special on TV one night about this. Most of the steel from the WTC is used in the bow. The ship builders are really pumped about this. Alot of pride. This is a good thing. When you see that ship coming towards you its awsome. Figting the war on terrorism with a part of a ship built with WTC. Very cool.
  13. If dispatching EMS is part of your police duties then do it well and do it with pride especially if you knew that it was part of the job when you signed on. However, I dont believe that dispatching EMS should be the responsibility of a PD. I'm all about a centralized (non PD) dispatch. I bolded the above sentence because I really dont think many police officers choose their line of work so they can dispatch vollie EMS. Please dont take this the wrong way. We all have callings. EMS is EMS PD is PD. Having the PD dispatch EMS maybe the most cost effective way to operate in certain areas but it seems to cause alot of hard feelings between PD an EMS around here. 10570 posted this earlier and I'm sure he or she is correct. Politics and power. "Maybe the officers of said dept don't want to be bothered with dipsatching, but those that make the decisions will fight tooth and nail to hold onto that control."
  14. Yes blame the PD's. I can tell you right now that most PD's in this area or anywhere else for that matter would just assume have nothing to do with dispatching vollie EMS units. Perhaps you can attempt to initiate your own EMS reporting system for your area so you have only yourselves to blame when things don't go as planned.
  15. I agree, I can't see opening thousands of wounds. However, if they insist on releasing tapes then release the entire tape not just the dispatchers portion. Unfortunately the almighty dollar is gong to rear its' ugly head and taint things.
  16. There are still a few Westchester departments that carry on the traditional wetdowns.
