  1. Nice video and tribute. I especially liked the music.
  2. NYSP and all other agencies involved did the right thing. They could have easily took him out but they stayed professional and did not lower themselves to his level. Having said that, nothing more would make me happy then to see him die a slow agonizing death.
  3. Remember everyone. Fire, PD, EMS, stockbrokers, waiters, dishwashers etc.
  4. If that doesn't hit home I don't know what will. RIP
  5. Agree to a point but where do you draw the line on a" disability act" issue? Your applying for a job that requires strict physical standards. If you have a physical disability is applying for a firefighter postion in a large and busy dept such as FDNY really reasonable? Where does the dept draw the line on standards? It's not just an eye issue it's any physical condition. There has to be a cut off point at some point for any physical capability.
  6. If you ever listen to LA City news audio clips of vehicle chases or past events such as those two gunmem a few years ago that where armored up and went on a shooting spree, the dispatchers repeat word for word what the officers transmit through the entire ordeal. Takes a little longer but the instructions are clear. It's also dispatcher CYA for any potential negative outcomes or lawsuits etc.
  7. We used to go down there too in the 70's. Had alot of fun. Those guys earned their salaries. On NYCFIRE.NET there is an audio clip of very busy day during those years. In the clip you can hear a truck company calling for engines. It reminds me of that post somebody made a few weeks ago about how a monkey can squirt water. I'll bet if you talk to the guys assigned to the truck that day they would have a different opinion.
  8. Oh yes, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$!
  9. Fairly healthy also.
  10. He's done. Sounds like a history of issues.
  11. I agree. There are good and bad officers everywhere. It's so not limited to volunteer depts. What I meant was I dont think theres a whole lot of 23 year old captains in career depts. And yes it depends on the person.
  12. I stand corrected. However, I do believe lack of experience can be a problem with efficient leadership.
  13. I start this thread as not to distract from the real purpose of the LODD of Officer Concepcion/NYPD. My point is the fact that we have 23 year olds holding the rank of captain. Before I go any further if there are any early 20's or so officers reading this please don't take offense. I respect any volunteer firefighter that is ambitious and wishes to move up the ranks. I say volunteer because your not going to be career and obtain captain at 23. I'm retired from the Air Force and currently a full time police officer. Through my military career I've had to deal with several young officers and NCO's that were just not ready to lead. This does'nt make them bad people but a degree or other schooling, classes, etc. does'nt make you a leader. While degrees and traing are great you just can't beat what actual experience teaches you. A combination of training and experience is vital to an up and coming fire officer. I know there are probably small rural departments that have to promote for lack of senior members. Should there be age and experience requirements? I don't know and I know each department has it's own unique requirements to sustain itself. Not that his rank had anyhting to do with what happened but when you read "A fire captain" in the paper I think the common citizen expects more from someone holding that rank. My two cents. Agian no disrespect to any young officers out there. Good on you for making a difference.
  14. This happened in the city of Sanford, NC a couple of years ago. Jerry Lewis had a fit and phoned the city manager and mayor. From what I hear he let them have it pretty good. However the city stuck to it's guns and would not allow firefighters to collect money at intersections. It was a safety issue for city leaders and I think the whole workers comp if someone was injured was the real issue. They don't do at all now. To bad they could'nt find a compromise in there somwhere.
  15. I would agree with the chief on this one. I have never been someone to go out of my way to hurt a fellow firefighter, police officer or emt/paramedic. I have always given a brother who may have messed up a bit the benifet of the doubt. But I believe this guy crossed the line especially when he got back in the rig and drove back to the house. I wonder what his service record looks like. Many screw ups or is this his first offense? Who knows.
  16. Nice rig. Izzy, what is the white box under the light bar? I'm guessing its the euipment to change trafic signals. Am I right or wrong?
  17. Thats one good looking rig.
  18. Good trivia. Boars Head products are excellent and their trucks are sweet.
  19. Thats seems like an awful lot of stations for one square mile and a population 7800.
  20. Was there a purpose to this post?
