  1. You better say a few Hail Marys and Our Fathers for referring to that area as East Port Chester.
  2. Just wondering if anyone has any information in reference to rental property on City Island. Looking for a week or two next year. I know they have a couple of B&B's but would prefer a house. We have relatives and friends in Westchester, NYC, and Jersey and the island makes a good base camp when we are up their. Not to mention the fact we like City Island. Just thought someone may know someone or perhaps an agency that deals with rentals. Thanks in advance. John
  3. Not sure the wife would go for it. Oh what the hell, throw in the food and were there.
  4. That's pretty much we thought, just really like it out there. Thanks for the input.
  5. Down here uniforms are provided by the department. This includes initial and subsequent issue. Detectives are given a quarterly civilian clothing allowance. I'm not sure but I believe it's something like $150.00 per quarter.
  6. For sure. Much more appropriate and safer than a traffic stop.
  7. If I attempted to pull someone over to issue a Starbucks cerificate it would end up in one of these scenarios: 1. They would end up wrecking in the process and the law suit would begin soon after. 2. They would'nt be the outstanding citizen I thought they were and the high speed chase would begin. You guys know what I mean but hey, if it works for them great.
  8. Yes, there is an extensive briefing for all involved prior to any scenarios to include the use of simunitions. The victims are pretty much all older juniors and seniors. The shooters are off duty POs. We always debrief and most of them seem to enjoy the intreaction with the different police agencies.
  9. They won't let us train while school is in session either, however, we do it in the evening at one of the high schools and they have probably 30-40 students that volunteer to play act fleeing or injured victims. Not as realistic as it would be but better than nothing I guess. It's not always easy not popping off a round or two when one of these kids come flying around a corner.
  10. Same in the Raleigh Durham area. First arriving officers are going straight in to the sound of the noise be it shots, screams etc. We prefer to go in as teams of 4 for the 360 but that may not always be the case. We just had our training the other night also.
  11. No, out of station 1. Just a community pride thing I guess. I don't much care for it but Go Pirates!
  12. The University at Greenville, NC Pirates school colors. Chapel Hill, NC (Tarheels) has Carolina Blue (light to sky blue) rigs.
  13. Check Motorola also.
  14. 60K max to live anywhere near Westchester. Unreal.
  15. Seth, With all due respect, you posed a question/discucssion. I don't think you got the replies or support you wanted or thought you might get and now you appear to be pissed. Sorry, but I thought this board was all about sharing different ideas and opinions. I'm not trying to start anything or give you a hard time. You do a great job with this site and i appreciate it. John
  16. Three or four pieces of apparatus is a bit much much for a car fire. I know each juristiction has it's own criteria for certain calls but you have to draw the line somwhere. We can "what if" all day long. My two cents.
  17. Has anyone ever heard of Rosenbauer apparatus? Just wondering what their track record was like. Would appreciate any info. Thanks in advance. John
  18. Thanks for the feedback guys.
  19. In my department you can wear concealed or on your belt in plain view when off duty. Having said that I don't know anyone that carries in plain view while off duty. Personally I don't think its cool as I don't like to draw attention to myself. I have seen a rookie or two carry in plain view but that habbit doesn't last very long. They are the ones who wear shirts with police written in big white letters all over them. That doesn't last long either. If you carry on your belt in plain view your shield has to be visible to the public. If you wear the shield on your belt it has to be on the same side as your firearm. You can also hang the shield around your neck. Again nobody really does this off duty.
  20. I sometimes do carry my shield and ID without carrying my firearm, it can come in handy at times. Like patrol224 said it really does depend on what I'm doing that day and where I'm going. What make/style holster do you have?
  21. In cooler months I carry often, wearing jeans etc. Hot months very rarely due to the fact I wear shorts and a tee shirt on a daily basis and its harder to conceal and its just plain uncomfortable. I always have both shield and ID when carrying. I always have weapon, shield and ID in my POV. A lot good that does me if something goes down away from the car but thats my preference.
