A light it is. Thanks.
-
What is the white box that sits just above the windshield? I've seen these on many rigs. Some type of light?

Izzy, agreed but would still like to hear the Pd's side. The press is the press.

In certain municipalities Memorial Day parades are a no noise event. Rightfully so.
-
I agree.

Total losers all of them. Best thing that could happen they actually grow some balls and kill each other.
-
I agree. Especially with your last sentence.

Very true. And there's nobody out here that hasnt made a mistake or two or three. But I think overall we all do a pretty good job taking care of our public.

This is also true in NC. Pretty much if you know a certian area isnt covered frequently due to the distance from a station the local guys will be there for back up. Even if its out of juristiction units will respond to stabilize a situation until the state arrives. And the NC troopers dont hesitate to back up city cars if they happen to be in the neighborhood. Gotta look out for each other. I'm near the Raleigh/Durham area where we have plenty of manpower but theres an area called Beaver Dam which is extremely rural. There was a deputy sheriff on a call who needed back up and the nearest units were 20-30 minutes away. Firefighters who happened to be at the Beaver Dam fire station were listening and notified county they were responding with their utility. They arrived and their presence alone helped defuse the situation. They didn't have to physically get involved but the fact they pulled up in their utility was enough. The dumb a*# causing the problem knew he was out numbered. This of course isn't standard procedure but again this was a very rural area.

That does makes sense.

Good on you guys chief.

The rear or front only is a good option. Having the rear only on during stops or accidents lets you take care of business without getting a headache from strobes flashing in your face.
-
Not sure about CT but in NC and SC if a state road runs through a local municipality local PD can enforce law. Parked on the side of the road with lights off is a departmental policy. You can or you can't, it's not illegal.

I'm a full time police officer and in the city I work for all 911 calls are received at the police department, not because its a PD thing but its a good facility and logistically it works. All dispatchers are civilians not police officers. However, there are four dispatchers, (1) fire, (1) police, (1) EMS, and (1) call taker. Anything related to fire operations or possible fire operations is an automatic fire dispatch. No such thing as "check and advise". Our FD is a full time department. Our working realtionship with fire is awsome and if the FD needs a police response they will ask for same. I agree with the above posts in reference to the "check and advise". Not a good procedure. Can't speak for anyone else but I would just asume not have to go and "check and advise". I have other things to do.

I remember in the 70's they had the blue strobe in the center and two small strobes facing the rear on either side. I remember they would at times run with center light in criuse mode. They had the State Police signs in between the lights. Always liked their vehicles.

I agree, without a doubt it was all about the $$$.

The U.S. Air Force ran them up until early to mid 80's.

I very much agree. No doubt Kentland fight their share of fires and my hat is off to the members who are there for the right reasons. There is without a doubt an ego problem within that department and the website is an excellent example of that. Pride in your department and it's accomplishments are a great thing but I think Kentland has crossed the line. My opinion only. Again, my hat off to the dedicated professional firefighters of Kentland. They don't all desreve a bad rep because of a few.

You said it. I have a couple of friends with VSP, all very well trained and professional.

My bad I didnt mean to include that quote in this post.

Not to hijack the thread but I still dont understand why MV needs a Deputy Fire Commissioner. Put that money towards another firefighter.

I know where your coming from and I agree to a point. However, there is always an excuse. If you live in these areas you need to pay for the service, thats reality. There will always be someone who wont pay and then start the whole its unfair BS thing when they lose property. Saving lives, people trapped is a different story. Go in get people out and worry about costs later.

Not a good change in the law for law enforcement officers. God knows what will be towed away without a search. Drugs, firearms, etc. Even with the threat removed a search often lead to drugs and firearms being removed from the street. Often stolen firearms. Sorry to hear you have to get a warrant. Like you don't have anyting better to do.

Great job GPD. Sounds like their saving lives in Greenburgh. "Last summer, Greenburgh park employee Gabriel Robles used the Heimlich maneuver to save a woman from choking on her lunch at Secor Woods."
