  1. Lighten up guys, I didn't mean for you to get your panties all twisted. I was directing it a particular person and should not have posted it here. My apologies, especially to Seth for all the hard work he does.
  2. wishful thinking for some FASNY people
  3. my heart aches for the victims of this despicable crime
  4. Doesn't tandem axles give better braking and weight distribution ?

  7. Weren't they called REMFS ? Rear echelon mother (you know the rest)
  8. Seems to be a well thought out piece of fire apparatus. Is that a hydraulic reel above the front bumper, if it is, great idea IMO. Good luck
  9. I had to read this a few times. Thought it may be an April Fool's joke, but I realized that was what, eight weeks ago ? Regarding soap boxes, you see an adversary, I see an individual exercising the right to free speech. Taxpayers do have rights, most importantly the right to hear the truth about any manner. Tax savings ? A double edged sword. When was the last time (especially) in Westchester you saw a piece of fire apparatus that wasn't considered a "parade wagon," with all the bells and whistles, often duplicating what already exists in their own dept. Back to the facts. Depts with career staff on duty 24/7/365 have a faster response time than those that don't. In no way is this the fault of an all volunteer dept., Its just the way it is. I got a job (now retired) and had and still have a life, one beyond my wildest drams, all because of my career as a firefighter. A career I attained by taking a written test with 4,000 to 5,000 other people, then scoring high enough to be in the roughly top 125 who were actually hired. The career academy. which wasn't a "show up and you pass" type of deal. Then 22 years putting up with, for the most part, know it all chiefs, AKA better known as the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker. The situation in Port Chester has nothing to do with tax savings. Nothing. The facts truly spell that out. It's all about jealousy, ego, and, pure lunacy, all on the part of the chiefs of that dept.
  10. I beg to differ regarding if a career person made these statements whether there would be a line of volunteers calling for his (her) head. Did you ever work (or serve) in a combo dept. ? If you did, then you know the correct answer. Lets not beat this thing to death. Hopefully everything will come out in the wash.
  11. Alan, good points. And, as my late father once told one of his ass-kissing subordinates; "Nobody likes a rat." I also don't like that it took so long for this incident to be brought to the forefront. However, it shows a true lack of professionalism and decency on the part of the chief. Unfortunately, times have changed (not always for the better) and standards of conduct are always open to (intense at times) scrutiny. As Warner Wolf used to say, "Lets go to the videotape." By today's standards, he's guilty of conduct unbecoming a (fill in the blanks). His credibility, questionable from the outset, is at an all time low. Not someone I'd want, or trust, having my back at an emergency, or in the company rooms.
  12. Mel Brooks ? Alfred Hitchcock and Rod Serling are no longer with us.
  13. Fired ? He should be run out of town, maybe back to North White Plains. No, wait a minute, they already threw him out. What a coward.
  14. Appears to be a foregone conclusion that MOST of the officers, along with the volunteer force, had no idea what the three cheeses, I mean chiefs, were orchestrating.
  15. Seems one of the volunteer companies, Washington Park E&H Co. #4, (Eng 64) sent a letter to the village board demanding the PC8 be reinstated. Cited the public safety factor in eliminating the career force. And the safety of the volunteers. Scuttlebutt (rumors) is that Rescue Co. to follow suit, and many members want recall vote on the three chiefs. Turning into a real clusterxxxx.
  16. they're starting the process
  17. The Pawling situation was slightly different. The Pawling PD was comprised of part-timers, many who worked full time PD jobs elsewhere. There were ,of course, a few bad apples that constantly made life "difficult" for some of the residents. Personalities won out over principles. (Sounds familiar doesn't it?) The County Sheriffs Dept picked up many of the part-timers after taking over. Better service? I doubt it. Now back to Port Chester. As any firefighter who works or worked in a combination dept knows, the vollies who hate the "paidman" the most are the ones totally incapable of passing the requirements to becoming a professional firefighter. They are, to say the least, green with envy. Then, there is the next bunch who are successful in life and harbor no resentment. They tend to take a back seat (unfortunately) to the issues because they have a life and can "take it or leave it," when it comes to the FD. The remainder, usually the highest percentage of members, active or not, some living in Florida, North Carolina, etc. just don't give a rats ass. As was stated in prior posts, the union needs to get some volllie support. Ang's post seems to say there is some, and hopefully it grows. The next thing the PCFD needs to do is impeach all three chiefs. Lets face it, they're losers. Didn't the head chief get thrown out of his prior volunteer dept ? They need guys like Joe" Pug", Bob Thalhiemer, Vinny Lyons ,sr., and Bill Neathercott to come back and lead the dept. They were gentlemen, who didn't play games with anyone, especially with the public's safety. Enough of me ranting. 32 years in the fire service and the only thing that got better were the rigs.
  18. A new demo? I guess thats the tradeoff. A new toy for 2392's company. (E-60)
  19. None of the three are capable of passing the test, nor any of the other requirements of becoming a professional firefighter. Pure jealousy on their part, not one bit of logical thinking on their part. What next, maybe eliminating some of the volunteer apparatus and/or companies? They just opened the door for further reductions of the fire dept budget. "No new turnout gear for Brooksville, (just saying) We'll just have Mellor pick up the slack." Sounds crazy. You're effing right! If any member of the Port Chester FD thinks the politicians care one iota about them, I have a nice new bridge in Tarrytown to sell to them, dirt cheap.
  20. right now, none. back in the day, both engines, 58 and 59, were manned either with two, or they rode solo. hence the nickname LONELY EAGLES. Beside the three chiefs, who else in the fire dept. knew this mass attack was going on ?
  21. Just what Sullivan County needs, more jobs going bye bye.
