rescue pumpers seem to be the trend today in most fire departments, I think they are good for departments who want to consolidate their resources. I agree with the post about getting the rescue and engine to the scene in one shot that makes a ton of sense

KME builds great trucks however I am not a big fan of the Predator chassis. ALF has a great history but I dont get is this company preference to install whelen sirens on their rigs. Pierce is popular so is Seagrave but every dept has their preference. To most people it is preformance not appearance that is important. E-one makes very good tucks as well so let us not bash a dept for buying KME or Sutphen trucks because they are not bad rigs as many of you say they are

congratulations to the Arena family on the birth of their new baby

that is a tough loss for the dept. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Malverne Fire Dept and to the family of fire fighter Paul Brady

I agree with the previous posts, you have to think before what you say on the radio. The use of the 10 codes should not create confusion. I can't think of a reason why they would. It is true you can sound unprofessional using the 10 codes when you use the wrong ones.

This topic is total waste of time. Why are bashing depts that march in parades, there is no need for that crap. Training is important and we all know that. To bash a fire dept that marches in parades is very immature and selfish.

there is no need to use plain english on the radio and my reason is simple it sounds extremely unprofessional is not necessary. Why has there been a need for a debate about using plain english vs 10 codes. I prefer that depts use the 10 codes because is sounds professional and there is no need to make radio transmissions sound understandable. You can't suspend someone for using a 10 code.

that is crazy, I hope that the West Haverstraw fire dept learned its lesson about leaving the fire house garage open. Today you have to be so careful about leaving doors open because you never know what could happen. I feel bad for the firefighter who had his money stolen. My advice is close the doors when you leave that is how you prevent burglaries from happening

To suspend someone for using a 10-code is the stupiest thing I have ever heard. The chief of that dept needs to grow up and get a life. I personally think there is no need to use plain text on the radio and I hear it all the time at home on my scanner. We have the 10 codes for a reason I suggest we use them, not plain text.

very interesting stuff here nice site

I agree with the previous post. However you do get a few cops who do a crappy job of directing traffic. Needless to say people have got to grow up and be adult about things like this. If you think the world revolves around your life you are greatly mistaken. We have no control when things like power outages and road closures occure, and for people to be yelling at a police officer over stuff like this is flat out immature.

does anyone know what type truck they are getting because I would assume they would be getting another smeal and not american la france or pierce
-
If you want to get hurt that is your choice ok You are not supposed to be riding on a truck in the hose bed that is too dangerous and a total lack of common sense

one of the best parade's I have seen in a while great turn out perfect weather no rain thank god one the best parades to attend. Mt kisco fire dept did a great job.

Storm did F-2 damage the winds had to be between 112-156 mph the california closet sustained alot of damage. Westchester should consider installing sirens for warning people when storms like this occur.

any ideas on what they are planning to replace it with

I think there is a better way of handling this situation. The commissioner's attitude about dealing with the probabilty of the Mahopac fire house being torn down is not the best way to deal with a situation like this. The public should have a say in this matter but to have an arrogant attitude about it is wrong and makes the department look bad. I hope a resolution to this situation will come about.

142 mph you got to be kidding. There is no reason to be driving like that especially on a parkway, you are putting your life at risk as well as other motorists, That guy should be locked up for good.
-
I remember Mike Neuner, they had a big turnout for his funeral. I hope his family is doing well. That was a terrible day for the Brewster Fire Dept. Mike is a man of courage and bravery making the utlimate sacrafice. May he rest in peace and god bless his family.

It makes alot of sense to me the explanation about the way the rear of the rig is designed. Well I hope this rig serves the community for many years to come. I hope to see this rig at many parades as well.
-
great pictures, Matt Daly is a great photographer.
-
very nice shots. How come you decided on the conventional doors rather than the rollup doors. With the roll up doors the truck would look more like a rescue pumper, the rear of the new truck looks more like a a tanker than a rescue pumper, anyway I wish you good luck with the new engine, the old one will be sorely missed.
-
I am sure whatever Port Chester gets will do the job. Smeal builds very good trucks. Tillered ladder trucks cost alot of money and two drivers are not always available, so I think you are better off with a rear mount ladder truck then with a tiller.
-
good luck with it. I thought the next rig was going to be seagrave anyway I hope the new rig does the job like the old one
