This is a very interesting topic especially for the New Jersey Dept's. Fair Lawn, NJ Has a very extensive Rescue Squad with 2 Rescue's and a Haz-Mat Unit with Command/Work Station. Both Rescue's are Saulsbury bodys with Spartan Cab's. Extrication, Air bags, Haz-mat, the whole nine yards. But also Fair Lawn FD Has multiple Companies and a Large Command/ Special Operations Rescue. Talking to some members of both agencies a year ago and there were some problems between the two. I just can't recall if any of the FD rigs carried a tool, I'm Pretty sure there was one on a Rescue Engine. WHo's responsability is it to provide these services? I guess if you already have such an extensive rescue Sqd. set up let them handle it and respond to calls together know your agencies role at the scene.

Riverside Hose (Eng. 80's) House on the corner of White and Franklin St.'s can definitly go on this list, still has original "Fire Pole". Also Sleepy Hollow FD Headquarters on Beekman Ave.& West Harrision's HQ on Lake is also pretty nice.

Alot of Buddies of mine including myself have bought personal stuff helmets, Etc. all just bassed on prefrence. Also in some cases there department has purchased or issued items that they just weren't comfortable with or just didn't like. If it is Osha and or NFPA approved it should be just as good or better than issued gear. But completly understand the Whole Insurance thing, this is a subject worth looking into in more detail for real.

Control is probably the best way to go but only convience about having Local PD dispatch is the better knowing of your area but also this has been proven false in some situations but nothing is ever perfect. All in all Control is the way to go.

Congrats Chief can't wait for arrival.

Makes sense to upgrade spare rigs as rigs for that purpose become available. From what I can remember it was in good condtion. I am sure West Harrison is probably giving them a good deal on it. Thats also a good train of thought having reserve or spare apparatus in your fleet.

Quints in my eyes are a great piece of Apparatus. Like in almost all the topics and angles of the fire service it depends on the way you use it if it is the right way or the wrong way. Also it depends on your departments needs aswell. Many departments in this county have "Quint" type units as seen MFC2257 listed them all. If it works for you I don't see the problem with it. Tom Shand and another speaker down at the Baltimore Fire Expo have had Seminars on how to properly spec a quint. Its all about not going overboard. If you have a manpower problem during certain times of the day and are only able to get only one rig out it is great having everything with you. Also on the other hand are not go to have everything unless you have a monster of a truck then you run into other problems such as not being able to access some of your district. some of the quints in this county are not used as pump capable rigs but if the needs there it's there for you. From hearing about Yorktowns new Ladder from people it will be equipped with a pump but will be operated as a true Truck Company rig. Elmsford's quints from my understanding are not used on car fires but if there engines are tied up you have an option of using the pump equipped Ladders. Pumps on Ladders are also an advantge at using elevated master streams and Ladder pipe operations. Just some things I can think of.

Yea here is his Cell Phone Number (914)-774-6483. He also takes care of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Orange counties. I highly recommend him I have done some work with him and he takes care of you.

Briarcliff has there own pump from what I can remember Ossining uses Village DPW pumps Also used by other village agencies. Tarrytown uses Village pumps. But on the sublect of scene refueling I have seen some use village public works vehicle.

Senate H&L Co. (Ladder 41) quarters in Ossining located on Main St. was built in the 1860's-1880's. This house is also Steamer Co.'s (Eng.98's) house they are connected. They are technically underneath Senate but there meeting room is on the same level as Senate's Truck room. Speaking of which the New Ossining Headquarters on State St. is coming along. As everyone probably know's this will be Senate's new home Along with Rescue 14, there Rig is currently housed at Holla Hose's (Eng.100) quarters on the South Side. Sleepy Hollow has an old house. Eng. 85 (Rescue Hose) still has Automatic Wooden Folding doors. Regardless I don't know how old but it definetly is up there.

Yeah it was definitly Cataracts 57' Maxim. Holla Hose had almost an identicle rig but I believe from seeing old pictures the grill and front bumpers were different. Also from stories I've heard it was sold but not knowing what its future had instore for it. Holla Hose's is still around it was sold to a collector in Texas and still is owned by him. last I knew it was for sale. Talking about old trucks and where they are now Ossining Hose's 76' Hahn is now owned by a campsite or something like that in Lake George. Also no Cataract does not have an antique but Ossining Hose has there original hose wagon.

More and more departments are going to keeping Turn-out Gear at stations. In Ossining I know you can keep your gear on Rigs or keep it in your POV but Ossining also does'nt require a crew to have the rig respond you can respond to stations or go directly to scene so it make's sense.Tarrytown's the same way but they require a crew unless after there Whistle blows 3 rounds then you can respond only driver. Other Dept.'s I know there SOP states you must keep gear in station unless it is Okayed by chief to keep in your POV because you respond to multiple stations or you live in between stations and not both stations apparatus respond on all alarms. Personally depending on department make up and staffing requirments is the way I think it should be determined. But keeping your gear in POV gives you the chance to be more versatile to your department. Reason being if you are going by the Incident for example an MVA you can basically give a heads up to responding units or dipatch on the situation at hand with being able to be Identified by your gear who you are. You then don't have to worry about making sure your gear is being put on a responding apparatus.
