the MSA Thermal Trac is an MSA Evolution 5200 series fire service TIC with subdued color scheme. It is offered in a standard image, High Def image and a zoom equiped high def version. Furthermore it has a video capture feature that records up to 4 hours digitaly which can be broken down to still frames or small video clips. The MSA EV5200 is the standard FDNY camera, just as a point of durablity.

I know city of Schenectady actually leases their rigs. They are a true cash strapped city so it keeps their costs down. It is the only way that the Chief can insure that his members have the apparatus they need. Plus the up keep can wrapped in with the lease or lease to purchase prices.

there are two things to be said. 1. I know Kevin on a professional level so he would have not sent this out without feeling it truly important 2. however, we do not know what it was like when it they started the drill. I was made aware of another "incident" last month were an instructor asked a classroom member to grab his gear so they could demonstrate the the DRD. The DRD nearly pulled right out. The gear had been laundered and not not put back together correctly. I feel that this incident reinforces that your gear needs to be paid attention too. The DRD in these pictures could have been stowed 100% under the cover if so chosen. This incident brings alot to light ranging from our own user error, design, lack of knowledge, so on. In fact I bet there are people looking at this and are saying what the hell is that? A DRwhat? I don't think anyone should get over critical, just take it for what it is and what this site should be a place for learning. The title could say "Always control SCBA with the Airline Side". I thank Kevin for getting this out there but we must determine what we take out of it. Be safe & good luck.

I think it can be a source of pride for the officer. I think the public can benefit from knowing who are their guardians and be good PR. But I also think it can be dangerous. I would at least not put the first name. When I worked in a night club we got staff coats and we always chose not to have our names. Because if you walk down the street and the guy that was kicked out the night says hey Joe, by use of the first name it automatically disarms and opens you more up than if someone just yells hey Smith. If I wanted you to know my name I'd tell you. Just my two cents.

try www.supplycaptain.com they are located just out side Newburgh, 10 minutes north off of 84. They have the machines right in their show room. Give them a call they maybe able to do them while you wait!

as per the discharge not being on the bottom then the TFT is perfect I saw a New Roc pic with the discharge (pres relief) and the handle facing down. With the crank and discharge directions able to be change and the multi position of the inlet you can position the unit basically on it's side. Crank on the right with handle facing up or down and pres. discharge on the right facing down. the pres relief is relitively round and should be able to have the discharge hose on it like the one I saw in the N.R. picture.

not an expert on Columbia Co. many departs have bread van tool boxes but I know that Livingston, Greenport and Niverville have some very nicelly equiped custom cab heavy rescues. Chatham has a commercial medium to heavy rescue plus they house the Hazmat teams rescue. Germantown has a similar commercial rescue. Greenport Rescue Squad has a few light rescue/technical rescue rigs. I know Clermont has jaws but I don't know if they have a rescue. Also I'm not positive but I think Claverack has a custom heavy rescue. Thats all that I can think of off the top of my head. I think Hudson considated down to a rescue pumper and their old Mack rescue is (was) sitting in the lot with a for sale sign.

when the car fires start, that will signal the begining. The cars will get lit first. Also remember when you're on ems or public service calls look for the occupied residences that are bare, can mean times are tight furniture gets repo'ed and electronics are easy to sell to make the mortgage payment.

Guys I have two great ones they have a materials list, diagram and instructions. One is permanent the other is disposable. So they are to larger than available space. If anyone is interested PM your email and I'll email them to you.

Just what we need one more illiterate “carrer†firefighter. Just joking congratulations. Best of luck. Stay safe and keep your trap shut probie for the immediate future.

There is add for this in the Sept 07 Fire Engineering, page 73 - full page add. It says "Converts CO to CO2" "Filters Out HCN, HCI and other Toxic Gases" It looks very similar to a product that Survivair had out a few years ago. They called it the Smoke Eater Escape Filter, they pulled them and told users to pull them from service immediately about a year ago.

For routine calls its laziness that has become a bad habit for the not so routine calls. However if I've got the roof or OV its intentional. I either fold them back on themselves and clip with the alligator or fold them over several times and rubber bands them. This to easily low pro on fire escapes. For the RIT we were taught to actually expect the guy not to have them buckled so start feeling at the cylinder to the carrier down to the straps. Train for the worst, pray for the best.

To answer your question the only people I know of that offer independant training for TICs is SAFE IR 1-877-4SAFEIR (1-877-472-3347) www.safe-ir.com I took there short 4 hour class at the first year of the now exstinct FDIC East in AC. It was great, I have to guess that their 2 day course would be even better.

Uses of the TICs in law enforcment also include but not limited to: surveillance; look in area (alleys, yards) without giving your presence up with a light; pursuits in brush, fog etc; search out warm engines on vehicles; and track fresh prints or laying spots. There are models available that have video capture that take video and still images for evidence collection. A guy from my old firehouse is on a multi justistiction ESU team in northern Ulster Co., they have night vision which is great but if the subject can camoflouge themself good enough not to be detected in daylight then night vision won't see them. The best camo in the world won't hide their "thermal signature".

If anyone participates on the Rant page it was said that this guy is a kook who is not affiliated with any organization and just does this for the publicly. There is indepth details posted to back up the statement, included one that said a simple Google of the guys name will verify some of this.

No that thread confuses me more than anything. Two guys who know a guy who say different things. Also there is a difference between if guys like it and if they hold up. For example a well set up apparatus that has small common problems that takes it of service because there is not a strong enough warranty/service infrastructure may make guys hate working off of it because it never works to capacity but its the not the apparatus that is to fault. That thread doesn't do anything. Get someone who uses it everyday to address the two separate questions and that might clear things up. Hey but lets not forget what opinons are like cause everyone has one. I wish my rig had a secondary A/C unit like the Phoenix ALFs but it doesn't and I sweat my A off. The problem is economics and lack or replacement parts which can be interpreted by some as a crappy rig that no one likes to work off of and that don't hold up. Answer the question next time instead of saying hey look at the other post I made. I'm glad I went out drinkin tonight!

its not a granite over hang its a cornice typically made of wood or light metals. this is a hazard when it comes to fire spread, conlaspe when operating on the roof and especially when you are getting off the aerial. This is an occupied multiple dwelling, this based on the shades. From the looks of the building, this building is most likely an old law layout and will typically have access to the basement from the interior and wooden stairs. So if there is the first line must be stretched to the interior stairs for protection and the second line through any possible exterior entrenance or down the interior to the fire. A well placed hose line saves more lives than anything else.

While waiting in line at the wake for FDNY FF Daniel Pujdak, 5 spare rigs stopped to let its memebers run in and run out if this tells you anything. I'm up on the main land so I can't comment on the entire FDNY but this is what I saw in during a 3 hour time period in another borough. Furthermore you will usually see at least one spare shopping on Arthur Ave everyday.
-
rock n rescue have a good selection of escape systems. I also echo the other members comments that you should take the FF survival class and in fact as many classes as possible. An escape system is for last option only, the more you know the less likely it will be that you will need it. Thats the way it should be, not like reality which is guys walking around with their fancy Gemtor harnesses yet they don't have a clue about what they can do with it.

another fun fact is that it was delevoped in the basement of the old quarters of Engine 48

the Survivor LED lights are now offered with alkaline battery pack so no charger is required. So you can buy just the unit ready to go for about $50.00

thats a great answer anyone could have figured that one out. Rosco uses Rosco fluid. there are two types of fluid oil based and water based. I've been out of the equipment game for awhile amnd am a little fuzzle but I think the Rosco is now distributed through someone else. Either way call Garrison Fire & Rescue 800-287-2206 I know they have it on the shelf or call a different local distributor that you may deal with.

As of yesterday afternoon a 65-2 was posted that the contract passed. The vote was 4,037-3,115, the only borough that voted down the contract was Manhattan. Furthermore do not be fooled the probies are paying for their own raises by losing things on the back side.

This is a little broad of a question but I will just suggest that you remove set up time from the response time. A haz mat team may be on scene hours setting up, testing & probing before a course of action is even selected let alone put into action.

last night on the news the mayor said the padlocking was a mistake and it was reopened however the mayor said it will be permanently closed shortly. He said the building is worth $400,000-500,000 at auction.
