  10. With the urban renewal going on in yonkers who has time to march. Sorry i just had to say that LOL. I do agree parades should be fun (considering i march like a sober drunk) I want to be able to walk up to my wife at a parade and kiss her hello. I do it at the St Paddys parade every year. Whats funny is parades are for the comradity with our fellow firefighters and we cant even talk to each other during it. The funnist thing was during the Tarrytown FF's parade last year an other Lt from my company and I where the only officers from our Dept to march, Just the CHiefs and Deputies up front. Well she and i had a blast we laughed the whole march becasue i could not keep in step. I dont march to win I march because I am proud to be a firefighter, and to have a good time, and the free beer at the end.
  11. Also was thinking if anyone has a contact in pepsi, I have heard that they are into stuff like this maybe they can sponser a bbq and for the kids that cant come out we can bring food up to them, know this could be a big expense but maybe worth looking into, I know its a hosptail and some kids may not be able to eat a bbq but one hotdog or burger wont hurt them. Also we could think of some activites to do with them.

  16. Fire departments urged to stand down for firefighter safety NOTE: Please forward this email message on to other fire service professionals to encourage them to participate in the stand down. Fairfax, Va., May 24, 2005* The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), James Burns, State Fire Administrator of the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and 13 partnering fire service organizations are calling for all fire departments in the nation to conduct a "stand down" for firefighter safety beginning Tuesday, June 21. As of May 1, there have been 50 line-of-duty firefighter deaths - that is 10 more than at this same time last year. A stand down is a method used by the military to correct an issue that has been identified as a problem throughout its ranks. The IAFC, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and their partners* are urging fire departments to suspend all non-emergency activity on June 21 and instead focus entirely on firefighter safety. "Fire fighters are being killed at an alarming rate. The fire service simply cannot continue to do business as usual when so many of its own are dying," said IAFC President Chief Bob DiPoli. "We are conducting the stand down to raise awareness of the need for increased vigilance toward fire fighter safety." The IAFC and its partners are urging you and all fire departments throughout the country to suspend all non-emergency activity and focus entirely on firefighter safety. If you are a career or combination department, please stand down beginning Tuesday, June 21 until all personnel and duty nights have been covered. If you are a volunteer department, please conduct a special safety meeting the evening of June 21 or as near to that date as possible. Use the recommended "daily activity schedule" below. Take the 21st to talk about the causes of line-of-duty deaths; check all apparatus and equipment; discuss health and safety regulations; review fire ground safety issues; and take stock of training exercises and fitness goals. An entire Web page at the IAFC Web site www.iafc.org/standdown has been devoted to important issue. Go to that site and use those resources to plan your activities for the stand down. "We must call attention to the unacceptable number of line-of-duty deaths and injuries plaguing our fire departments," said DiPoli continued. "During the Safety Stand Down, fire departments all around the nation will have thorough, honest conversations about firefighter health and safety and maybe we do something to stop these deaths." After your department has stood down, please email the IAFC with a summary of the activities you conducted and your comments at standdown@iafc.org. If you have questions, please call the IAFC at 703/273-0911. 20. After seeing some of the post in the other discussions, there does not seem to be much respect for BLS from ALS. It seems ALS thinks BLS is a taxi service by the way they talk about them. Why is that? There is such a big differnece in respect from here to the city. was wondering if any other BLS felt the same.
  21. The yankees are one major pitching injury away from being a sub 500 team. I never liked Torre damn i oculd of won those world series with those teams the years they won. I am not saying get rid of just him get rid of all of them. Johnson should of never been bought here this year what does he have left maybe 2 years the most. Arod is the biggest waste of money. we gave up Soriano what were we nuts. I just realized something else who do we have in the mionrs now??? NO ONE. they where all treded away.I cant think of the last yankee bought up from the minors and lasted over three years with the team. They are in very big trouble if they pull there act toghter this year they will make the playoffs but no farther then that. Looks like us yankee fans maybe watching our time go the wayside for the next few years.

  24. very well said WAS967, I do agree with you that BLS is very dependent on ALS here. I have been here for two years now and still find it hard to work with a medic, for the simple reason in the city it was a luxery to have one. This is how it went in the city. 11 David -central, central go 11 david we need a medic here any avaible for an MI, with out pause 11d no medic avaible will advise when one free well needless to say i am still waiting to know if one is free LOL. this would happen time and time agian for od's, arrests, etc. and trauma forget about it in the city it was standerd BLS, my first car accident here was a fatal and when i saw the medic pull up i was like wow who called you. He asked me what we got (now keept his in mind i was still in shock in seeing a medic on this call) and i said a traumatic arrest, he then says how bad, and as i am reaching for strecher out of the rig i stop and say well its traumatic so it must be pretty bad. LOL. I later told the medic i was sorry i did not mean to be harsh i just didnt think at the moment was so surprised just to see him there.
