There are still seats available in all these ICS courses! As the NIMS compliance deadline nears, it would be a shame to see any classes canceled due to inadequate enrollment. Please spread the word about these classes within your agency and with neighboring agencies. Don't forget that NIMS also applies to municipal officals, DPW/highway/water departments, volunteer organizations active in disasters, emergency management, hospitals, school emergency personnel, and others so please share this with other agencies also! If you want to sign up for any of these courses, please call the Police Academy at 914-231-1827. Pick and choose calls????? Dispatcers who dont want to be inviolved with dispatching ems?????????? Tell you i would not want to live in that town. Maybe first of all the dispatchers who do not want to be botherd with ems should start looking for work somewhere else. second a ambulance corp who picjs and chooses the calls they go on should have there certs. taken away by the state. It is a sad day if this is happening. You have a job to do just do it. I have had jobs in my life when i didnt like to do certian things but you still do it that is why you get a pay check or you volly for. If this is happening it is a disgrace to the people we serve.

This a-hole knows the damage a defib can do. All EMTs know what it can do. Does not matter if its an AED or a Semi. They can kill. You never hear a rookie police officer pick up a weapon and jokingly shoot his partner, or a probie firefighter pick up an axe and jokingly hit a fellow firefighter in the head. Thats becasue these tools of the trade can kill, the same way those of us in EMS know that a defib can kill. This kid was warned that this defib is not a toy and not to touch it, also was told by the person he murdered a few minutes before not to touch her with it. He should not have gotten manslaughter he should of gotten murder. He is one very lucky person.

I am not sure if Fire Depts. have to follow the HIPPA laws but if you do sooner or later you will get sued big time.

What I am more concerned about is detecting it here in the United States. There are many states here that just dont have anything ready to detect it. There are no laws saying a hopital has to report any thing to the CDC. What happend if it starts in a small town or even here in Westchester. This County is so worried about Terrorism is has overlooked public health concerns just as many other counties in this country have. There is a serious case of over taxing our EMS service as it is now. Our hosptials are overtaxed now as is, it does not take much to put them on deversion now, think if and when it strikes how would our hosptials handle it. Public health has become a forgotten issue in this country. We depend to much on the Feds to protect us, when the State and County should be doing it. But many of these agencies through out the country just dont have the resoources to do it. Lets just hope that it strikes first somewhere in this country that has the resources to detect it quickly.

Bravo firecapt. One of the most important lessons I learned taking your Fire Officer class was bringing the Brothers and Sisters home safely after a job is your job as an officer. Just wondering how many times did this Chief get burned in ihis career??
