  1. One rumor i heard why they are not used anymore is that ER Doctors did not know how to take them off. They use to cut them off which i seen myself done a few times in my career. Like i said this is a rumor I heard and happend to witness myself, so please dont think i am bashing doctors. Was wondering if anyone else heard that rumor
  2. From my understanding they never were out of protocol, but if you read the protocol on it now it might as well be out. Many EMT classes do not even bother teaching it.
  3. I have used them several times, but that was back when it was popular If you want the information on when it was used let me know
  4. It will be that by July 4th
  5. Lets hope for the best, and prepare the best we can. but remember mother nature bats last. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WEATHER/05/22/2006...ason/index.html
  6. lets just say this, I hope i am not the first NYS EMT to come upon this call.
  7. The average age of an EMT in North Dakota is 46, said Dean Lampe, executive director of the North Dakota EMS Association. About 20 percent of volunteer EMTs in North Dakota are older than 60, Meyer said. Its not the amount of people its the age there is no one to replace them, this seems to be a problem every where now.
  8. http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/05/18/rural...s.ap/index.html Everyone is hurting for EMTs
  9. Dont forget everyone this was a drill. This is why we have these things let the mistakes happen there not at the really thing. But one thing I have notice about drills there seem to be alot of ICS probelms. Was there many problems with ICS at this drill?
  10. Laws, it has started here in Westchester already.
  11. The highest law of the land is the U.S. Constitution. If something is prohibited in the Constitution, it's "unconstitutional" which is about as illegal (or "unlawful" as those in the know prefer to say") as it can get. If a law, ANY law, conflicts with the Constitution, the Constitution wins, hands down. An amusing corollary of that comes from the fact that the Postal Service is written into the constitution. It's unconstitutional to impede a postal carrier. Q. Who has to yield right of way at an intersection, a fire truck with lights and siren, an ambulance with lights and siren, a police vehicle with lights and siren, the Presidential motorcade, or a post office truck? A. Everyone has to yield right-of-way to the postal truck. http://www.pitt.edu/~kconover/law.htm It is also the the US Post office procudere to follow the law of the state. The same way it is or at least was that emergency personal are not requried to wear seatbelts, it it the agencies that we work for sets them in there procdures. So in reality you are not going to have a mail truck run a red light or not yeld to emergency personal, but as you read above that are allow to by law.
  12. I disagree the 10 plus years I was a career EMT, I saw alot of what can I get for myself attitudes in both union and non union shops, and that is what is hurting all EMS. Until you can start showing the big Unions that you can stand with each other, EMS will never have any federal represention, and will be considered the armpit of emergency services. Also until the city of NY recognizes EMS(which has the possably the biggest EMS union memebership in the country) as an emregency service and not a demand service (I dont know if they did yet I know in the 1990's when i was there they didnt), EMS will never get the respect. What also hurts EMS is the big turnover rate.
  13. I think the biggest problem in EMS is the tremendous lack of unity. as mentioned before EMT's are a dime a dozon so that makes unity very tough. As the police and fire service stand by each other, in EMS you dont see that at all its. Before you start talking union start talking about just backing each other first.
  14. Considering tha i am not very well educated on this matter this is just my opinion, I would think since NY is an OSHA State and not an NFPA State (if I remeber correctly) I would think you could pick and choose as long as it meets or exceeds OSHA regs. But like I said i may be blowing smoke on this.
  15. The question is does Fire and PD really want to do it though. I have been on many calls over the years with both PD and Fire EMTs there and they did nothing. IMO, I dont think either side wants to be botherd with it.
  16. Living in the city almost my whole life I never been to a drive in think I will check this out now.

  22. Be aware everyone That SEMO is getting out of the business of teaching ICS100 and ICS 200 only very few classes of those left if you wnt to take them in a classroom. You should be able to take ICS 200 online soon at FEMA if not already. The DES website has the list of ICS NIMS classes being done by the state in Westchester. Also if you go to SEMOs website you can see an list of classes for all of NY. Hope to see you all in classes soon.
