JM15 liked a post in a topic by x152 in It is still out there Professional vs Volunteer...and in Westchester
As a starting point.....Change the name of the thread to VOLUNTEER VS. CAREER.
This entire issue was manufactured by a small group of completely incompetent volunteer fools wearing Fire Chief costumes from the Port Chester FD.
Sorry if the truth may hurt for some of the pro-volunteer carrot snappers on this board, but this story is going to sting for awhile (as it should).
Contrary to the claim of one "dinosaur" here......This has everything to do with career and volunteer relationships and the absolute jealousy that a few complete losers from PCFD attempted to enact upon 8 unionized firefighters who did not conform to their failing regime.
Speaking out earned them being thrown out.
Except, the labor world is a bit harder to con than the archaic volunteer fiefdoms that these pieces of trash have matriculated through.
Open check book PCFD.
Elections have consequences.

JM15 liked a post in a topic by antiquefirelt in Empress EMS Latest To Adopt Ford F-Super Duty Chassis
Well, I couldn't agree less. My FD has been using F-series chassis for over 20 years (3 ALS buses on 8-9 year life rotations) and our experience has been terrible. Ford has a habit of make big motor changes every 3-4 years so just when they figure out the bugs in one, another model comes out and you start the beta testing all over. We've had terrible luck keeping the ambulances on the road in years 8 & 9, with numerous issues with cam-shaft sensors, computer issues, fuel problems, and the latest they spent over a year trying to figure out before buying it back from us. We'll be taking delivery of two new Dodge/AEV ambulances in August in hopes that they're more reliable. Of course we know everyone has issues, but at this point Ford has failed us for the last time. Look around, many places are moving away from Ford. Some big Texas city Fire?EMS services are totally moving away from Ford, along with numerous smaller ones. The largest private EMS firm in out State has had similar issues as us with their new Ford F-series and another FD EMS service we're quite familiar with just switched to Chevy in the type III style.
New issues to come? All new F-series will be on the new aluminum platform, again an unproven chassis, and as of just a few months ago, you couldn't get an F-series gasoline engine in the ambulance prep package? E series: yes, F series: no.
Just our experience, I'm sure others have had more success?

JM15 liked a post in a topic by batt2 in Deadly weekend for Westchester 73 years ago.
73 years ago this weekend was a deadly time for the Yonkers Fire Department and the Mount Vernon Fire Department.
Saturday Jan. 30, 1943 Mount Vernon Fireman John O'Rourke died after being overcome by smoke at a fire at 10 Brookdale Place.
Sunday Jan. 31, 1943 Yonkers Fireman James Kane and Probationary Fireman Thomas Corbalis were were killed when they and four other firefighters plunged into a basement at a fire at 373 Warburton Ave.
Think of their sacrifices and stay safe brothers and sisters!

JM15 liked a post in a topic by nfd2004 in Bridgeport CT Firefighter CPAT Test 2016
Above quote from Reply # 6 - TRUE
Starting back in the mid 70s, Bridgeport was ordered by a Judge Daly to adjust the hiring process of its fire department. The results were that some candidates walked into firehouses getting two years back pay, plus back vacation benefits etc. Some left shortly after getting all their back pay for two years once the court battle was over.
Promotion exams come along. Same thing. Getting promoted within the Bridgeport Fire Department was not only based on your ability to do the job, but also based on what you looked like.
I believe it was during that promotion process that the group known as "The Firebirds" was organized within the department. Very similar to NYCs Vulcan Society of today.
Both sides have suffered. Some great guys that were pushed into a job that they could have very well earned on their own. It actually hurt them as they were put into a category of those that had the job just given to them.
I must say however that those that were given the job and stayed on the job fought side by side, some of the toughest fires in the State of Connecticut. I attended a funeral for two Bridgeport Firefighters LODD a few years ago. All department members attended no matter what they looked like.
I am not taking this upcoming Bridgeport Fire Department test. I was one of the guys that didn't get the job back in 1977 because of Judge Daly's ruling. Even though I grew up in Bridgeport and that was where I wanted to be, I guess it's okay now, I got the job in another Connecticut city. Yes, I had to make all new friends and I missed all my buddies. But we kept in touch. For some of us, 40 years later we still do.
Spent 30 years as a firefighter. Loved it and even got promoted. Caught a few jobs and became a part of the Brotherhood of Firefighters.
If you feel the odds are stacked against you, you are NOT alone. I could have been a Bridgeport Firefighter instead of that driver of the getaway car in a murder. But, they got what they wanted. That is what really matters right.

JM15 liked a post in a topic by x635 in Pierce Introduces New 107' Single Axle Steel Rearmount Ladder "Ascendant"
There are several departments in Westchester that operate single axle Quints.
North White Plains Ladder 47, Greenville Ladder 4, Croton Falls Ladder 68 (Former Ardsley Quint 1/Ladder 50), Chappaqua FD Tower Ladder 27, Hawthorne FD Ladder 56, Katonah FD Ladder 39, Millwood FD Ladder 52, Lake Mohegan FD Ladder 10, Rye Brook Ladder 30, and Somers FD Ladder 48 are the departments in Westchester that operate single axle quints.
New Rochelle FD Ladder 12 also used to be a single axle quint, and is now in service with the WCDES Fire Training Center. Mamaroneck FD Ladder 19 also has a single rear axle, but is not a quint, as is Mount Vernon Ladder 2, Rye FD Ladder 25 and Ladder 26 and Scarsdale FD Tower Ladder 29. Pelham Manor Tower Ladder 3 also has a single rear axle Aerialscope.

nydude2473 liked a post in a topic by JM15 in Sleepy Hollow EMS Refusing To Accept Mutual Aid?
60 Control has very strict policies on what they can and cannot due according to my understanding. Once a unit signs on for a call that call becomes their responsibility. In this case 73B2 signed on the air and became the "responsible party" to ensure that an ambulance responded to that call and it is out of the hands of the dispatcher. There is a time frame that I am sure someone else can talk about as I cant remember off the top of my head. If a unit hasnt signed on in that time frame then it automatically goes mutual aid. Once someone signs on (73B2 in this case) the clock stops.
