There are many OSHA standards about the documentation of "injuries" and also many classifications of reported injuries. One of them including "first aid." Anything that requires an employee to miss work or be transferred to light duty aka a desk job should be automatically reported. On the first aid side anything that requires attention including a simple bandage should be reported. Especially in the emergency services where the risk for contracting a blood borne pathogen is present. My oppinion would be that if the chief refuses to officially file a report then remind him of your rights as an employee. Then if he still refuses go over his head and tell him that you are. I'm sure he will change his mind then. If you feel that strongly about it you should fight for your rights. Thats how our country was founded.

I don't know much about the actual position. But it is based out of Somers FD headquarters. WEMS employees dispatch Somers FD and EMS and through CENCOM which is the dispatching of the WEMS units.

You are indeed correct. The blue logos are removeable and they are winch points. Our truck Rescue 20 has one of those on all four sides I believe.

ebay? In all seriousness that is a good question. I'm assuming that it was illegal, but we all know the saying about assumptions.

After doing some research. National certification exams, for all levels, will be given at the fire academy in Monotour Falls on april 25-26; july 25-26; october 17-18, 2009. Unless one comes up in Westchester i'll have to think about making the drive up.

Good Question. Does anyone also know the requirements?

Wow sweet pics Chris. Looks like a cool toy, I need one of those

Just a quick question, you said "if it were our first due." Can you clarify what type of role this rig will play? With the hurst tools I assume a rescue/engine.

I guess under a skewed interpretation it could be assumed that he was advocating against the use of sprinklers. Which i'm sure isn't the case. I believe that was what your point was pasobuff, correct me if I'm wrong. Speaking of sprinklers does anyone know where I can find a report about the effectiveness of sprinklers in commercial properties. Specifically schools?

Congrats Chief. QTIP= Quit Taking It Personally

Don't you have to be a resident of Mount Vernon to get hired? Maybe they should ease up on the residency requirement to attract better candidates. No offense to anyone from Mount Vernon.

Rest In Peace Chief

Thank you, Figured it was something like that. Somers FD counts PIAA's as EMS also.

Paul, OSW's?

Rest in Peace

Somers FD did just shy of 1900. Fire and EMS combined.

I am doing a paper on the uses of Nitroglycerin. I wanted to get a little more background on its uses in pre-hospital care. Also, I would like to get oppinnions from paramedics who use it. If anyone can help out that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Good information. Thanks for sharing. Just something else for us to think of when arriving on scene. I know of a few places off the top of my head in my district where there are solar panels, and I never really thought of them as a hazard before.

This would be a lot harder to accomplish then you think. What about insurance? I wouldn't want to be involved with it being lent out to departments. Think about the liability if something happened. What about maintenance costs? who is going to pay for stuff like that. In my oppinnion this is just a pipe dream.

RWC another excellent Idea. Maybe EMTbravo can sponsor/host training seminars or events on different topics. Not a bad idea and I am sure that there are more than a few qualified people on here to help out.

Just a thought. Maybe we should look at consolidating communications and dispatching centers first? In theory we should have one center where all 911 calls are received and from there Fire, Police and EMS should be dispatched. Then in my opinion EMS second since it seems to be hurting the most. At this point from my experience in my area fire should be closer to the bottom of the list.

Exactly RWC. I'm sure that in this age of technology portable radios will become part or your basic PPE. I feel that everyone on scene should have one to hear important updates and life safety hazards that they need to be aware of or if they need to call a mayday. With that being said I agree some people shouldn't be talking on the radio especially on a large or hectic scene. Maybe there should be more training on radio etiquette? When I took fire 1 a couple of years ago we did a little training with radios. Maybe departments should do training on this if everyone is going to have one on scene.

I just tried it and it works a lot better thanks for the link.
