Anyone get results yet?
-
Does that mean everyone who didn't get to take the test for free (non-minoritys) get a refund?
-
I don't agree with it but thats what is written lol As someone already mentioned our new engine thats coming soon will have the firecomm system. I am unsure about the details of it though.
-

What was wrong with the Purchase IA?

Does Yorktown's dive team have swift water capabilities?

Being a volunteer department it depends what I am wearing when I get to the firehouse. If i am wearing shorts and sneakers then I will put my bunkers and boots on. I prefer the heavier boots to give me better control of the pedals. I wouldn't drive apparatus in rubber boots only leather. This topic isn't addressed in our SOG's. I think that it should be up to the drivers personal preference since he is responsible for safe operation.

Thanks for the update

Safety is everyones responsibility not just the Chiefs or officers. Fireguy do you really think being on top of 10 foot tall moving apparatus is safe? Here is a link to a news article you might find interesting (I hope). http://firedaily.com/2009/12/lodd-battalion-chief-tommy-adams-shreveport-la-fire-department/ WOuld you want to tell the family of one of your friends that they died in a preventable way? To look cool at a parade?
-
Maybe departments should stop inviting them to parades.... Anyone think the host department could be sued for allowing such unsafe practices to go on during their event? I do and I am sure plenty of lawyers would too.
-
SO they are hiring off of list 6019? How far down the list are they?

Fit testing using a "Porta-Count" machine isn't required according to OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.134 using the hoods with bitrex or smoke irritant is a lot cheaper and acceptable according to the standard.

This is a great point. Most if not all of the vehicles that we do extrication training on are older vehicles. These vehicles are very different from the new ones today. They are great for teaching new people how the tool operates. I wish we could get newer model cars for training. On a side note... Any departments use either books or computer programs that show you where to cut on specific vehicles?

That is a good video

[quote name='Alpinerunner' date='23 June 2010 - 03:52 PM' timestamp='1277322727' post='213194 Paid personnel volunteering is NOT illegal. It's only illegal if your union says it is and the volunteer districts never had that clause. They could do what they wanted outside of their shift. There are no OT callbacks or wasting of taxpayer money. I don't know where you heard that. I am pretty sure it is illegal also. It has a lot to do with insurance and benefits if I am not mistaken.

While doing some research I found an interesting article to share. It sums up good considerations to keep in mind when responding to possible bombings or terrorist attacks. Just another tactical consideration to keep fresh in your mind. Link to full article: http://jennihesterman.blogspot.com/2010/04/first-response-and-threat-of-secondary.html

Well put.. remember a picture is just a snapshot of a short amount of time in real life.

I also have noticed this... It seems like the site has a lot less photography. Is there just a decline in interest?

Any idea on admission price?
