I highly doubt these scores were based on race, I know plenty of non-minorities who scored 100+. Obviously i don't know all 303 candidates who scored 100's but judging by the names on the list nothing seems to indicate that. While I can understand it wasn't a perfect test this was nothing like the recent Stamford test where graders needed to see what you looked like before giving a score.

It's hardly fair to bring up one detail of an incident and just say "well that was dumb of them". I haven't heard many of the details of this fire so I'd be interested. What mutual aid units were sent? Was anyone requested and not able to respond? Where there any other incidents in the county at that time causing departments to not be able to send mutual aid? A 4 alarm fire is a massive incident, even if the entire county were merged into one department I'd imagine that during a 4-alarm incident some areas would be lower on staffing than usual.

Here's the list from the county for all to see. http://www.docdroid.net/tQjsxbK/65-061firefightereligiblelist102015.pdf.html

Scores are in the mail today. Apparently everyone did very well from the sound of it

Anyone have a run down of what departments/ units responded to this? Also do the combination departments in Westchester have a policy against calling volunteer departments for mutual aid? I'd imagine Arsdley would have gotten to this quicker with more manpower than Larchmont or Pelham.

At this point i would simply be embarrassed if I worked for the City of Stamford. http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/article/Stamford-changes-hiring-rules-to-expedite-6378657.php

Chances may have gone up if you're one of the individuals the city prefers, everyone else will be out of luck again.

It seems all who passed the written made it to the oral, which now conveniently gives the City of Stamford the choice of anyone who could passed a dumbed down written. The oral counts for 75% of the total grade with written only being 25%. I saw the roster for the first section of interviews, it had about 115 candidates, there were 2 other groups which I assume are similar sizes.
-
No, they should be giving interviews to those who originally earned them. Not illegally throwing out a test to fit the city's agenda.

See you've been a member of this site since 2007, yet I don't see a single incident posted under your account. Why not contribute ? I used to contribute incident alerts on occasion, but really don't have the time to sit and listen to the scanner for hours on end anymore. Being that most of these incidents are now instantly posted up on Facebook these days, whats the incentive for users to spend hours listening to an incident rather than spending time with their families or other hobbies just so grateful users like yourself are satisfied ?
-
Part two is an oral exam. Funny how they need to see the candidates before scoring them this time. I wonder who'll get hired now....
-
I think we're all on the same page here about departments abusing mutual aid so I won't even touch that. But this quote is what worried me the most. Really? I had no ideas fire worked that way. Apparently if a fire occurs in one town that makes it less likely for there to be another fire elsewhere. Amazing.

The Chief was hired on a 1 year contract that expires June 1. Also, what is the point in requiring the Chief of the department to be an EMT- B ? Is he going to be running out on medical calls ?
-
You mean they don't roll on shabbos ?

For anyone who was hoping to hear back from Stamford, interviews were scheduled and quickly cancelled. Possibly relating to a 53-year old Stamford volunteer filing a federal lawsuit against the city over age discrimination http://westfaironline.com/69696/stamford-faces-age-discrimination-lawsuit/

According to the application for the Westchester exam, applicants can sign up for multiple tests and take them at one testing location. A cross filing form must be filled out and sent to the county no less than 2 weeks before the test. Now thats the county's policy, not sure exactly what NR does.... they decided to leave out a bit of important information it seems. No online application, forms must be picked up in person. No notification of what the application costs until you show up in person to get it. No information on exam reciprocity while the exam was posted after Westchester filing closed. And while those of us who've tested before know what "preference" means (a NR list and an others list), there's no real explanation of what "preference" means. They know who they want to hire, but they still want those donations from suburban kids looking to get hired.

Anybody know how far New Rochelle got down their list with the last hiring they did ? If they didn't get very far I doubt it'd be worth it for non-residents like me too even test.
-
I love it when they can't even read the application, just another one you can count out of the competition.
-
Yeah, if you apply now you just may get it in time for 2016...
-
Page 4 of the application states "Five points on Written Exam for Active Military Service". Call it a hunch, but something tells me there may be a written exam.
-
Well then, go ahead.

Just curious, how different is the YFD Academy from the Westchester Career Fire Academy? I've heard they use their own instructors, but is there any difference in certifications ?
