  1. Incredible footage. I learned that early in my training that you and your equipment have to arrive on the scene safely to make a difference.
  2. Call for "odor of gas" came in around 4:30 PM EST. FF, PD, DPW and gas company were on scene at the time of the explosion. Reports are that multiple FF, PD, DPW and civilians injured, no reported deaths. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2012/11/23/firefighters-respond-to-building-explosion-in-springfield/ SPRINGFIELD (CBS) – Eighteen people were injured in a natural gas explosion in Springfield Friday night. The explosion damaged several buildings including Scores Gentlemen’s Club, which was leveled. Firefighters and workers from Columbia Gas were in the area responding to reports of a gas leak. The area was evacuated prior to the explosion that happened around 5:30pm. Video of explosion: http://www.necn.com/pages/video?PID=Cxfys__Pd909HJAEB1N_aqRdEt9ntttQ
  3. Wow. Talk about a bad day at work.
  4. I believe it should be postponed or cancelled as well. I am not a resident of NYC, but I would be livid to see resources going to a sporting event while my neighbors are without essentials like water, food, shelter and security. I understand the need to "get back to normal" and the economic boost, but when hotels are housing victims, and PD/FD/EMS have their hands full, majority of gas stations closed, neighborhoods haven't seen City officials, relief agencies or the National Guard, having such an event is ridiculous. If the volunteers want to make a difference, there are plenty of shelters that need help and thousands of elderly residents that are stuck in high-rises without a way to get groceries and staples without working elevators.
  5. The widespread damage is incredible from W.VA, DC, Philly, NJ, NYC to Boston. I was trying to keep tabs using RadioReference, but with so many people without power, most of the feeds are down. Be safe out there. The clean up is going to be a monsterous task. Daylight is going to reveal something interesting.
  6. I saw on the news last night where the Canadian model shows a direct hit on Boston while all the others showed the storm farther east......lol
  7. Nice looking rig! A couple question if you don't mind: 1) Was there an option for an extended cab for more leg room (not a 4-door like FDNY) 2) With this chassis choice, what is the difference in load height (for the strecher) versus the E-series (non 4WD) Ford chassis? The 4WD chassis here looks pretty low, it has a real nice stance and appears to be a reasonable height. 3) Is that a camera in the patient compartment?
  8. Looks like Boston PD got a few as well. I don't know the details but this photo showed up on a local blog. I think it's funny that it came with a NY dealer plate on it, the bloggers didn't. Source: http://www.universal...heyll-be-changi
  9. Here's to dreaming. With heating oil prices high already, I am glad I stocked up on firewood and got the chimneys cleaned/inspected!
  10. Were there VIP's on the Circle Line ferry?
  11. Very tragic. Our thoughts and prayers go to the family and departments involved.
  12. After a certain number of repeats, say 3 in a 30 day period, the establishment should get a visit from the building inspector and the fire marshall. Why not address the problem? Obviously there is a problem. If the local governemnt or FD keeps fining the owner/management, they might be inclined to fix it, but probably not and will just pay the fine.
  13. Norfolk County Sheriff's Department deputy and corrections officer Ryan Tvelia died Tuesday morning after being involved in an accident. He was on a department motorcycle on his way to a funeral for an officer's mother. He leaves behind a wife and three kids. RIP http://www.theboston...684/detail.html http://boston.cbsloc...-95-in-walpole/
  14. Nice job Robbie! Congrats to the parents too!
  15. Doesn't look like they had that much snow either. Hope you had a good time regardless. As for the runaway pits, they have them in the east. There are a few on Rt 9 between Bennington, VT and Wilmington,VT in east and westbound. I think I have seen the elsewhere, but I can't recall off the top of my head. Who manufactured the two Eagle County ambulances?
  16. I guess like any other rig/bus, after the first few months, there is a short-list of things that need to be tweeked. Boston Herald did the article, never said they were great at it.
  17. Seems like the new boat is having some initial problems as reported by the Boston Herald: http://bit.ly/AelqVH "The city’s shiny, new $4.2 million state-of-the art fire boat — dedicated with great fanfare just six months ago and funded in part by federal stimulus money — has already suffered pump problems and is being yanked out of the water for a hull inspection, the Herald has learned."
  18. The video attached to this news story shows the moment they "flipped the switch" to shut off the grid: http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/local/boston/12006939236610/power-outages-due-to-back-bay-fire/ BFD had constant Twitter updates on the fire with pics. That was the first place I went when the power went out to see what was going on.
  19. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2012/03/13/firefighters-battle-4-alarm-blaze-near-back-bay-hilton/ Power shut down in the Back Bay area so BPD could fight transformer fire on Scotia/Dalton Street. (reported 4-alarms) Several high-rise buildings and large hotels without power. Thankfully the weather is mild. I was dining in a restaurant when the power went out. We were amongst the fortunate and had been served before the power went out. A couple hours earlier, BFD was fighting a two-alarm fire on Haviland Street, just blocks away.
  20. Wow, that would really help when it came to putting up Christmas lights! But sadly, no keys?! Oh well. Beautiful truck!
  21. That's too bad, I think the car looks bad a$$
  22. Big stores like Home Depot, Lowes and Target have generous return policies. I know I have used it many times. But on my latest return, I started to wonder, what happens to all the items that gets returned? I suspect many get put back on the shelves, but what about the well used sander, drill or misc floor tiles?
