  1. Joseph Toscano, 54, died following a medical emergency as he battled a two alarm blaze. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2017/03/17/watertown-house-fire-firefighter-collapses/ http://www.wcvb.com/article/fallen-firefighter-joseph-toscano-was-20-year-veteran-father-of-five/9148407
  2. Local story of a fire inside a fire house. No injuries reported; damage to equipment and fire house. CBS News: Fire in Concord (MA) Fire House
  3. Here in MA, the highways going into Boston have "zipper lanes" (similar to the one on the TZB). Each day, during operating hours of the HOV lane, a state trooper is parked at the HOV entrance and monitors each and every car that enters. If the car is non-compliant, there is a "bail out" lane where the vehicle is merged back into the regular travel lanes. I can't tell you how many times I have seen people weave back and forth between the HOV lane and the regular lanes on the LIE. It's posted that it's illegal, but people do it all the time. If people followed the rules, none of this would be necessary.
  4. 12-15 building burned and gusty winds surely didn't help the situation. Amazing event.
  5. Strange & tragic incident. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/jeffny-pally-uconn-student-killed-by-fire-department-suv/
  6. Wow, they thought the Altima's were tight on space....they probably wish to get back into an Altima after being assigned this "buggy" Second thought, now we know why they had to reduce the speed limit in the City.
  7. What an incredible piece! Very nice!
  8. Tomorrow the Capital District (NY) will be paying their respects to Richard Beebe. Rich will be greatly missed and leaves a huge hole in EMS. He spent countless hours as a nurse, paramedic, teacher, mentor, friend and family man. Every EMS professional in the Capital District area knew him in one way or another, took his classes or was taught by someone who learned from Rich. Many EMS professionals nationwide may have also used his study guides and not known the man behind the text. RIP Rich, you will be greatly missed, but your spirit lives on through countless EMS professionals. https://www.altamontenterprise.com/06092016/national-expert-emergency-medical-training-—-man-‘big-life-itself’-—-dies-58 Professional Paramedic Study Guides
  9. Nice truck
  10. 2016 Ford F-150 Special Service Vehicle - Press Release
  11. NIOSH report released http://www.cityofboston.gov/fire/pdfs/nioshbeacon.pdf Board of Inquiry report also released: http://www.cityofboston.gov/fire/pdfs/boi-fire-march16.pdf
  12. If you watch the Boston EMS tv series, patient and EMS staff complain about the ride of the International chassis. So it's good to see they are looking at the F450 chassis (although I don't know that was the driving force on this decision). So I was surprised that FDNY was using those chassis for their rescue medic fleet (though storage space might be a major consideration here, where in Boston the rigs are purely ambulance/transport not multi-function as the FDNT rescue medic) Now if they fixed the roads, that would help too...
  13. Nice! Bronco's always had a small cult following and it's not because of OJ!
  14. This past weekend I saw a F-Series Super Duty (F-350 or 450) with a plow and a wing-plow. Anyone seen that set up before? This was a first for me. I was driving and this was driving in the opposite direction, so I didn't have chance to snap a photo. It must be a contractor, is my best guess.
  15. What are the "restraint" restrictions? My co-worker said his mother-in-law is at a facility in Rhode Island and they are not allowed to put up bed rails because it's a form of "restraint" So the facility puts mattresses on the floor for the residents that are fall risks. Really?!
  16. I know many people collect, buy & sell fire memorabilia. A retired Boston Fire fighter is looking for his helmet which was stolen. http://www.wcvb.com/news/boston-firefighter-searching-for-stolen-helmet/35006982 Just spreading the word.
  17. Thanks for sharing!
  18. What, no side discharge?
  19. Not really mean for use in tight areas. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2015/02/18/giant-snowblower-covers-west-roxbury-homes-with-dirt-ice/ Many, many years ago might have been 1995-1996 season, I saw a similar piece of equipment clearing streets in downtown Albany. It pulled up to an intersection and didn't see the Honda hatchback at the line (yes, driver inside waiting for the light). Needless to say, with the augers running, it was not much of a match for the back end of the Honda.
  20. Talk about your tight spaces. pic.twitter.com/i0Y2ScewJh With 24" of snow and no where to put it (actually Boston doesn't have a good plan to remove it), it makes it difficult for all emergency services.
  21. Indeed they do. They are borrowing snow melters but they were just too many streets to clean all of them apparently. Not sure how much they can get done before today's storm. http://www.universalhub.com/2015/marking-room-more-snow-back-bay They really need to institute a street cleaning policy in the winter time. Who knows what the stat is, but they must lose 40-50% of street parking spots city-wide because of snow piles (which ice up).
  22. I am just catching up on Season 3. I am a bit surprised that the folks setting up in Alberta don't have lodging; either provided by the company or pooling in together a sharing a apartment. It must suck working and not be able to sleep in a bed. Then again, how many of us have spent their shifts sleeping in the front seat or on a stretcher?
  23. Scary and amazingly caught by a news chopper in the area. Reports are his injuries are non-life threatening (leg/ankle injuries). Hopefully he has a speedy recovery. http://www.whdh.com/story/27452578/firefighter-falls-off-roof-at-scene-of-norwood-fire
  24. This incident occurred this past Friday. Weather was cold and dry. I can't speak to the construction or surface condition of the roof. I am not sure if there was a good pitch to the roof and he just had momentum and nothing to grab.
