MiFF liked a post in a topic by SilentShadow in Bedford Called To Pound Ridge Fire?
In the tangled web of mutual aid in this county, it sticks out that Bedford wasn't called in any capacity, especially when other departments had to travel through Bedford to get to the call. I'm also curious to know why Bedford doesn't have a tanker? There's nothing constructive about not talking about it and sweeping it under the rug.

SilentShadow liked a post in a topic by SFRD372 in White Plains Ladder 34 Closed Due To Lack Of Manpower
If I am correct the year is 2017, not the 1960's when "brownouts" were so common in the FDNY! It's time the politicians in White Plains showed more interest in public safety that "vote getting" for their individual campaigns. I believe that Local 274 should start marching at City Hall and at the home of the Mayor, Tom Roach. He claims to care about public protection but certainly doesn't show it by putting the ladder oos so often. One civilian death due to a fire will cost the City 100 times more than it would ever cost to staff that ladder. I am fortunate to work in a City where we operate 9 engines, 3 ladders, 1 heavy rescue and a Deputy Chief with an aide, and our contract mandates ALL APPARATUS be staffed with a minimum of 4 firefighters each. It's inherently un-safe for your members to be operating at such reduced staffing levels. Fight for what you want and most of all need!

WPFD right now has 134 firefighters on the line compared to 169 about 10 years ago. The rescue at headquarters is in service 24/7/365, and is one of only two fully staffed rescue companies in Westchester County, the other being Yonkers. Right now we run bare bones across the board, 3 men on each rig (engines, ladders & the rescue) with a fourth man going to the ladders or rescue depending on availability. That means if Ladder 34 is open and one man calls in sick, has a personal day or comp day/vacation, then the rig is shut down and the 2 remaining FF's (or LT) are sent to be the fourth man on either L-32, TL-6, or R-88 at the DC's discretion. During the summer months especially, L-34 is shut down entirely and we ride 3 across the board, filling vacancies with OT. The city will not fill vacancies on 34 with OT, they brown it out, leaving the entire south side of the city without a ladder. The next nearest ladder is 32 and if that is tied up at an alarm, it's TL-6 which is about 10-12 minutes from L-34's first due area. If they were to shut down the rescue and man L-34, you'd just be shuffling responsibility mainly on L-32's shoulders which would pick up about 1,300 alarms per year on top of the 1,500 it already takes.

Westchester County Hazmat didn't have a meter? Or as mentioned, was it there extended response time so they were skipped? Maybe its time for the Hazmat team to have paid members.

Hope the driver is OK.
Crashed in a very convenient location though. The Seagrave dealer and service center is right down the road. Not the same dealer that sold it though.

I can't see how it would be any lighter then other tower on the market though.

The City Manager brought this "staffed for failure" issue up to the City Council last year. It's an interesting read, especially with all the money the City has and they still won't fund proper staffing.

So you'd subject your family and friends to watching you go through a painful and devastating disease or other illness you could have possibly prevented? It's not a personal choice, it's the law.

Viper liked a post in a topic by SilentShadow in Archville FD and Pocantico Hills FD Being Left Out?
First off, I'd like to say I am NOT "armchair quarterbacking" last night's fire in Briarcliff. The departments were on the run card that responded did so with plenty of manpower on each rig very quickly, as I am told.
I've noticed, over the past several months, there have been a lot of fires in Battalion 12 that Archville and Pocantico Hills haven't been called for, either to the scene or to relocate. In many cases, they were the closer units and not even called.
I know these are tiny departments with very low call volume, do they still, and again this is not a knock at them, have enough interior firefighters? Or is it because their location is kind of strategic and they can cover several fire districts from where they are if another call comes in? Maybe that's the way the run card works?
I know I'm going to be told I'm not owed an explanation here, but granted, I am curious.
