I first thought that F500 was a Ford pick up, then I recalled that it is a recently developed extinguishing agent. I do not know if it's use has become popular, from what I saw it seemed to have promise.

Bet most of those new 3,ooo runs in Yonkers were gas calls

When things are not going swimmingly at a car fire, foam is often the solution

Wasn't there a similar fire in Atlantic City where the fire spread up the exterior of a hotel for 20 floors or so, Flame supporting exterior materials and panels were the cause. I fear this material on building exteriors maybe more prevalent then we would like.

What would have happened if a photo of firemen as they were called then, a generation or so ago, was published of guys visibly beat sitting on the back step after a "good feed" smoking either a Lucky or Camel, if neither were available an dry, the filter would be ripped off and the cigarette smoked backwards. Often the guy running the "job" would have the stub of a White Owl, Ben Franklin or DiNobli stuck in the corner of his mouth giving unintelligible orders. Of course most of these guys are dead today.

The only realistic solution is some degree of a regional approach. otherwise this will still be a topic for the next 100 years A coming together of the willing.

The correct spelling of this crude is Bakken. my error---But many states are involved when it is shipped from areas such as the Dakotas and experienced has shown us the danger of the product. In Canada, a train cashed in a Quebec town and vaporized a portion of the population.

We spent three trillion (with a tee) in Iraq and are still spending blood and treasure, how about attention to Americans coughing their lungs up after being assured by the Federal Government that there was no enviormental issues at the WTC site.

Oak Bluff ,Vineyard Haven and portions of Edgartown have some of the worst fire spread potential, I have ever seen

A few days after the plane crash, the USS Constellation an aircraft carrier under construction in the Brooklyn Navy Yard had a massive fire aboard. This was one of the most difficult fires ever fought, you know your having a bad day when your rubber boots are melting walking on the decks. Being only a relatively short distance from the plane crash site. many of the same firefighters caught both tragedies. An interesting note, Westchester Fire Departments supplied FDNY with breathing apparatus and spare bottles, due to the demand at the Constellation fire. Also this week is the 17th anniversary of the Vandelia Avenue fire also in Brooklyn , where a Lieutenant and two firefighters were killed in a wind driven fire situation. Naturally all happening just before Christmas

Should charge a fee per tank car in order to better prepare Fire Departments along the Balkan routes, the fee would not have to excessive per car,as so many of these tank cars are on the move each day, the revenue could be considerable and all sorts of equipment, supplies and training could be given to local Departments and regional response efforts. Seems the expense is borne by the locals and might not be happening in all states, perhaps a Federal fee distributed to the States then to the locals. Could be big bucks without hurting the industry. fair is fair they are introducing this significant hazard to vast populated regions, they should be expected to help in the solution.

This the second great article I have read this week authored by Ed Rush, the other being in IAFC newsletter about recruitment , you can always tell the writings of a Stepinac man.

This has been the best back and forth on a topic in a long time, this subject can not be left without speaking of ventilation and fire flow paths as it pertains to fire spread, The NIST study not only speaks of hose line usage but ventilation as well.

That year and model use to be known as "bathtubs" because of the cab design, There were a lot of hose around both as Engines and Ladders both straight jobs and tractor trailers,, of course the years went beyond 1947 into the 50's

NYSAFC should give this Chief some sort of an award or suitable recognition at the Annual June Convention at Turning Stone

There are many large non fire proof multiple dwellings in our area, built between the world wars, without exterior fire escapes, the trick is getting from your flat to the protected stairway under fire conditions which can get pretty snotty, Reading the article, is this for safety or beauty.??? On the plus side many fire escapes are being held on to the structure with bolts over a hundred years old and poor up keep of rail, treads and drop ladders make for dangerous situations, On the other hand they have been our friend, evacuating tenants, searching units, venting ,stretching lines. getting the roof and plain old firefighting so list me as perplexed.

Where will it be kept ? Will it be given to a local Department for rapid response or quartered at the training center ???

A few years back a major rock cliff collapse occurred in Pelham on Fifth Avenue and crushed several stores and actually totaled them. The rock formation was later braced by metal /cable net arrangement to prevent further collapse of this unstable formation. Again this was a winter situation of cold=warm -rain freezing and melting that caused this near disaster. Pelham, New Rochelle and Yonkers responded to mitigate the structual issues but little could be done for the cliff until this net arrangement was put in place, Could this method be of any use to Yonkers on Walsh Road perhaps not on the mudslides but brace that big old. wall ?????

Sad to read that LTNRFD feels New Rochelle Firefighters have lost their dedication, certainly something I have not found true

Fairfield is a pretty squared away fire department and gives great service to it's residents, does about 9000 runs a year and if they don't catch work in Fairfield, they are mutual aid partners with Bridgeport' which sees plenty of action. Good Department with good guys. Chief Dunn will be a good fit and a great asset. ,
