If Brazil can have 90% of their vehicles run on E85, then there is no reason why the US cannot do the same thing. This is how I see it. We would greatly reduce our dependence on terrorist (I mean Foreign) oil. Also, it would help out our own country because farmers would need to grow more corn or whatever else to produce the ethanol. We will be spending our money supporting industry in our homeland.

I know of some police departments that respond to every medical call in their town or village (i.e. Town & Village of Chester PDs up here in OC). They carry O2 and AEDs. Most of them are trained in CPR. Some of them are current or former EMTs & CFRs. It is obvious that nobody from the DOH is going to step in and mess with the cops for doing what they do. I just think that if PDs are going to respond to medical calls that the officers should have some current level of certification form the DOH. A few PDs here in Orange County are getting the hint. About 5-6 years ago the Village of Monroe PD began sending their cops to EMT class. Once they had a decent number of cops trained as EMT, they applied to DOH for BLS First Response certification. As far as I know, they are the only PD in the county that is a certified EMS agency. The PD cars carry the equipment that a fly car would carry. They also carry Epi-Pens and Albuterol. All of the cops get overtime to go to EMT class and they get an annual stipend for being EMTs (I think they get an extra $2000 a year). This is the correct way to do it. They have themselves covered by having EMS providers that hold current certification. Many of the cops are in the CME Recert Program. They get overtime to attend CMEs. It is a homerun for all involved. How can you not go to a CME if you are getting overtime to go. I think that the Town of Woodbury is in the begining stages of becoming an EMS agency. I will find out more and provide an update when I get more info.

Hello All. I am Doug. I am Captain of Chester VAC in Orange County. I have been a member of CVAC for 12 years. I have also been a member of Chester FD for the past 16 years. I am currently serving as Communications Officer for the FD. For my full time job, I am a Police/Fire/EMS Dispatcher for the Town of New Windsor PD.

I work as a dispatcher and if I received a call and thought it was BS, I would at least send a police officer to the location to check on the situation.

I am sure that emergency vehicles will be exempt from this law if its passed.

Up here in Orange County you will now hear many departments calling Fire Control and saying "Units out of service to a drill in (insert town name here)". That way they have the event covered in case of any firefighter injuries. I have been to wet downs where things got out of control and people got hurt. It takes all the fun out of the day when you get hurt. I like when a bunch of departments all show at once for a wet down. Last year for our new Ladder Truck (T-917) we had a big wetdown at Station 1. I think 11 or 12 FDs all showed at the same time. They hit hydrants and used tankers. There was water flowing everywhere. It was an awesome site to see. It was one of the biggest wetdowns that I have seen in my 16 years as a member here in Chester FD. Everyone followed the rules and used low PSI and fog streams. Nobody got injured or anything. Everyone had a great time.

I would like to correct you by saying that obesity is not a choice or a lifestyle! If you ask any doctor they will tell you that obesity is a disease. These people do not choose to be obese. They do not wake up one day and say "I think I am going to eat everything in site and get really fat!". Addiction to food or certain types of food is just as bad as an addiction to alcohol or drugs. As EMTs & Medics we should not judge our patients anyway. We should treat them with the most respect as possible, show them compassion and treat them to the best of our ability.

All of Rockland County except Stony Point and Haverstraw is covered by double Medic fly cars from RPS "Rockland Paramedic Services". They are on contract with the town around the county. Stony Point and Haverstraw (North Rockland area) is covered by Regional EMS which is the ambulance division of RPS.

I am a member and dispatcher for IPN and BNN. Both are great services. If you become a dispatcher for IPN and you are active you end up with free membership. BNN provides me with a free pager and free membership. They are both actively looking for dispatchers.

171 is a full time paid supervisor in NWVAC. He is 171 on the county frequency, but we call him Car 2 on the NWVAC Channel.

Just one correction: New Windsor VAC uses Regional EMS as their ALS provider and they provide BLS backup if NWVAC needs additional resources.
