  1. They cost between $30K-$40K!
  2. YEAH! WHAT BILLY SAID!!!!
  3. I am a civilan employee of a PD in Orange County. The rule for our cops is that if they are carrying off duty they have their weapon concealed and their shield and ID have to be carried where they can easily be displayed if needed. They are also not permitted to carry their service weapon when they are off duty without written permission from the Chief. It has to stay in their locker when they leave work. They can pretty much carry any off duty gun as long as they qualify on it. They also permitted to carry their off duty weapon as a backup while on duty. Every single cop from the top down always carries his or her shield and ID even when they are not carrying. As a civilian, I have a NYS Pistol Permit. On a rare occasion I will carry one of my two pistols (one is a mini Glock .40 cal & the other is a Kel-Tec .32 cal). When I carry either one of them, I always have my pistol permit in a readily accessible place so I can quickly identify myself as having a permit for the weapon I posess.
  4. What are the rules for off duty and civilians who carry up in NH?
  5. Years ago I worked for Elliott's Ambulance Service (now defunct) in Middletown, NY. We had one ambulette that was set up to hold a stretcher. The stretcher was a true one man type. It was common practice to transport patients that were on O2. The company was more about transports then EMS. The only good contract we had was the Orange County Fairgrounds and the Speedway. We got to see all the dirt track races and the concerts for free. The company was not even ALS. BLS only. I remember getting flagged down for an accident by NYSP. Since there was not any serious injuries, we waited for the local VAC to arrive on scene. They took the patient to the ER and we remained on scene treating one of the drivers for a minor hand injury. We were late getting to our next transport and our boss was on the radio telling us to step it up and get to the medical facility. The next day we got reemed by the Owner because we used supplies off of the ambulance and we did not transport. The Owner said "You cost me $450 by not taking the driver to ER and you cost me for the supplies you used to treat the hand injury" We were also told "Next time, you either transport or you leave the scene and get going to your transport".....This only shows a little bit of how much of an A**HOLE the owner was. I am a firm believer that EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES should be provided by the municipalities just like PD and FD. There should be laws put in place that state that Private "AMBULANCE" services should not be permitted to respond to 911 calls. Along with that, all EMS Agencies should be unionized!
  6. I thought my TV crapped out. I had recorded it on my DVR and I was ready to kick my TV and then the credits came. I was glad that Phil got clipped. That was awesome! I loved when the SUV rolled over his head! I think that be ending it the way they did, they left it open ended just in case they want to ever start making the series again.
  7. No more Chief's Show for me............Baltimore Expo all the way!
  8. LMMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. I have seen a NYC Sheriff. What is the deal with them in NYC?
  10. KVI Uniform is the Town of Wallkill and Alfi's in the Town of New Windsor.......................and the all time biggest supplier...............Some's Uniforms in NJ. They do almost the entire County of Rockland
  11. I know that the mention of the name Michael Moore can spark long debates, discussion and arguments, but I feel the need to mention something about his upcoming movie called "Sicko". While at work today, my female dispatch partner was watching Oprah on her TV at her console. I saw that Michael Moore was on her show and I decided to see what he was talking about. He was telling Oprah about how insurance companies are basically the biggest scam and that they do not care about anything except making a profit. The part that struck me was when he showed a volunteer EMT from a NJ volunteer ambulance service who was in NYC on 9/11 and he rushed to the scene to help. He ended up along with many other volunteer EMS workers being at Ground Zero for several months. He now has all kinds of breathing problems from lung disease and our own government is refusing to help him, but at the same time the "Enemy Combatants" from the middle east who are being held in GITMO are getting the best care possible from our government. I will go on record saying that I do not agree with many of the views of Michael Moore and I pretty much do not like him, but this stuff really hit home because this could happen to any of us. This movie has crossed party lines and is not slanted to any single political party. As much as I dislike Michael Moore, I do plan on seeing this new movie.
  12. I SECOND THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. I was sent info that FORD is going to start offering the diesel motor again for the late 2008 models. It will be the same motor they have been using and they will pay huge fines because they will not meet the new EPA standards. It will cost less to pay the fines then to lose business from ambulance services all over the world.
  14. Our Wet Down for our two new Horton Medium Duty Ambulances, our new Fly Car and our new Spec Ops trailer will be held on Saturday 6/2/2007 from 12 noon to 7pm at our HQ 79 Laroe Road Chester, NY. All FD, EMS & PD agencies are invited to attend. Food and non-alcoholic beverages (sorry, town rule says we cant have it) will be served. Musical Entertainment will be provided by a local DJ. Shirts made by ASI on Long Island will be sold. We will be having a 50/50 Raffle and a raffle for a Garmin GPS unit. Note to FDs: Fog Stream Only at 50psi or less MUST be used!!! No Exceptions!!!! Hope to see you all there. Douglas S. DiBlasi - Captain
  15. Our Wet Down went pretty well. I was disappointed at the fact that some of our neighboring EMS and fire agencies did not attend. Aside from that, we had a great time. We still have A LOT of Wet Down T-shirts available. Anyone wanting one of these shirts is asked to send me a PM and I will work on getting one for you.
  16. eBay is loaded with radios that are not FCC approved. I recently had a member of a neighboring EMS agency come to me and ask me to change a few things on his HT1250 radio. My agency has licensed Moto RSS. When I tried to read his radio, I got an error code. I could not find the code anywhere in the help section. When I removed the battery from the radio and looked at the radio info there was not FCC approval and there was a label that said "South East Asia Model". My RSS would not work with his radio. He should not even have it in his possession and if he ever tries to send it to MOTO to get fixed, he will never get his radio back.
  17. I did miss KRock, but since getting my XM service 5 years ago, I never listen to any FREE Radio anymore. On the topic of FM radio, I recently heard an advertisement for High Definition Radio, what's the deal with that?
  18. Healy in Goshen for warranty work
  19. Mobile Life has a few new Chevy van buses, but they are not in service yet.
  20. On our 2 new Horton Medium Duty buses, we have the Electronic Q and the airhorns mounted on the fenders of these buses came standard with the cab. Not sure of the brand. The electronic Q and these airhorns, MOST people will get out of the way. We have gotten some ballbusting from our local FD because they think that only fire trucks should have any type of Q!
  21. The video has been removed by YouTube for TOS violations!
  22. I like the blue lights on the front lightbar!
  23. I worked at Empress from 1996-1998. I cant remember the exact months. I started off doing the 5 day a week BLS shuffle all over the friggin County. First partner I ever had was Dave Waith. Had some QA/QI guy with the last name of Gallagher I think for some orientation and EVOC in an empty parking lot. Other partners I had... Rob Casasanta (RWC130), Sheri Baia, Laurie Kaufman, Frank Califano, Tara Sequin (who now works at regional ems the last I heard), Emmad Marji was my partner for a while on one of my day shifts. He was friends with every dispatcher and we NEVER did BLS transports. We just drove around and sometimes headed to a BLS TX, but we also heard a good job and buffed it. He was an awesome partner. Another one of my favorites was Dante Perales. For those of you who do not know Dante or anything about him, he was an EMT with the "E" for many years. He was another guy who buffed hot jobs all the time. I spent more time in the Bronx sitting in the bus while he was with his woman in her apartment. He opened my eyes to the Boogie Down Bronx...the largest slices of pizza in the work, spanish food and fried meat patties from street vendors. Dante was at the WTC on 9/11 doing what he could do to help. A while later he moved to the state of Florida and was in the PD academy. One night on his way home he was in a very serious MVA and we killed. I found out about the funeral services after they were already over. REST IN PEACE DANTE!!.........Bobby Martinez(RIP), Maria, Dennis Murphy, Dave Cox, Diller, Sanjurgo, Ammani, Karen Fragano and the whole dispatch crew Bosses.....Sugrue (as*hole)..hated that man with a passion. Darren Baia was cool, Danny Minerva, Tommy Sal (REST IN PEACE BROTHER), Carol Boscha (sic), The Famous Robert "BUCK" Visconti Unit# 300!, Mark Baumblatt, Scott Holland and his GF Kim. I worked the road, dispatch and support services during my time at the "E". Loved driving all over doing "hospital shopping" for equipment belonging to the "E".....Loved the AWESOME Spanish Food from Panchitos. Loved the competition with Califano for who had been to the best trauma jobs. I called him trauma 1, he called me trauma 2.........My current screen name was borne from this!! Thanks Frank!!! Hated not having a parking spot, Yonkers Parking Authority, larcenies from my car, dealing with the lowest of the lowest forms of life on earth, the commute, Sugrue, YGH and the large woman who we picked up in the Bronx. We always had 2 units (at least 4 EMTs) to lift her into the bus because was like 450lbs. Nice lady, but the runs sucked! I thought a few times about going back because I learned how to be a good EMT on the streets of the YO! I saw and did things that EMTs here in Orange County would NEVER see or do! To busy leading my VAC right now to put in the drive and a shift in the YO!
  24. There are a few different ways to get the NYC Detective style badge. You can actually order them directly thru Smith & Warren badge company. I happen to know this because I was talking to the owner of my local uniform shop and he said they are not hard to get.
  25. Here is an answer to the question I missed regarding where EMS personnel get their badges from. There are places online or catalogs where badges can be ordered like in Galls or The Firestore.com 99% of public safety uniform suppliers can order badges for their customers. Some of these places make you show your agency ID prior to the order being processed. The owner of the shop my agency uses told me that on numerous occasions people have come into his shop looking to buy PD, FD or EMS badges. They did not have ID on them or they tried ordering a badge that did not jive with the ID card................ i.e. a VAC vollie came in and wanted to order a badge that said "police" on it. SALE DENIED!
